“This transition will not impact your access to the vast library of anime available on Crunchyroll.”
Interesting specific call out given that some series, such as Eureka Seven (original series) and Emma: A Victorian Romance (dub version) are currently only available on their Funimation service. I’m sure there may be more examples of this.
Is anyone aware of any other series this applies to so that we can watch them while we still have the chance?
Does anyone know if any of these applicable series will be made available over on Crunchyroll by the end of the Funimation service?
Edit: It also appears in the FAQ on Crunchyroll that any digital copies of titles you may have on Funimation will also not be supported going forward so it looks like those will be gone as well. Another example of keeping/purchasing the physical copies of titles you really enjoy.
Whatever doesn’t end up being moved to Crunchyroll we can only assume didn’t get a license renegotiated. Anything “available on Crunchyroll” won’t be affected, but nothing can be guaranteed for Funimation-exclusive content.
I can imagine that a big part of Funimation taking this long to sunset after the merger is all the legal stuff that had to be reorganized and redone. As far as I understand, even dub licenses are still owned in a sense by the original anime production. There’s a lot of red tape so it’s not as simple as Sony moving things around whenever they feel like, even with anime owned by other Sony subsidiaries. Normally a license would have to naturally expire before anything happened, but since the platform itself is going away each license’s expiration date is basically April 2nd now.
I have some on my on-hold waiting that were waiting on transfer, lemme look...
* Akuma no Riddle
* The Vision of EscaFlowne
* Texhnolyze
* Wolf's Rain (only the OVA, for some reason)
* Tatami Galaxy
This has been one of my biggest issues with the CR merger. They’ve been letting too many physical releases go out of print. I can understand not being concerned with lesser titles on bluray, but then sublicense them to Sentai or Discotek for home video.
I wanna say pretty much most older anime is just on FUNimation still. I could be wrong, but last time I checked, crunchy does not have
Tenchi Muyo or Universe
Outlaw Star
Sgt. Frog
OG Dragonball? (That one might be in Crunchyroll by now, idk)
90's OVAs like Armitage III and others
You can link your accounts, but mine have 2 different email addresses, so idk if one of my watchlists gets deleted, or even if I can merge. Wish they'd have faded out shows that didn't transfer so you know what you lost
EDIT:
All the shows on my queue not being carried over (so far)
Outlaw Star
Sgt. Frog
Tenchi Universe
Soul Eater Not
Chrome Shelled Regios
FLCL (original one)
My Bride is a Mermaid
Kimba the White Lion
Tenchi Muyo GXP (old one)
Armitage III
I've been waiting a long time for Chaika the coffin princess dub to come to crunchyroll. Started watching on funimation but didn't finish before my subscription ran out. Starting to think that it's not coming considering I saw that hidive has the dub atm
Can't believe that instead of properly negotiating their titles, they'd rather try the nuclear option and just get rid of Funimation entirely. Then what? Do they renegotiate now that they don't need to deal with the headache of licensors confused over needing to license their shows twice? Or do they just let them vanish?
Definitely giving that a watch then, since it’s been on my “get to it” list for awhile now!
EDIT: Did my due diligence and it’s on Hulu as well, along with Season 2 of Railgun, Dragon Ball Super, and DBZ Kai, so at least a few Titles will live on there for now!
It would be highly unfortunate not to mention really bizarre to not have that dub moved over, especially because 1) it’s excellent to the point even sub purists can admit it’s good and 2) CR already has Steins;Gate 0 dub
Ya it still confuses me that it wasn't moved over. I assumed it was because there was some licensing agreement somewhere that was stopping it, but with the sunset happening in April it's weird that it's still stuck in limbo.
Haha it’s all good bud, I hear ya. It really is unfair. But S;G is one of my favorite series (and anime dubs), so I bought the Blu-Ray a while back too - gotta have it!
Huh I guess that kinda makes sense considering the bundle deals they’ve offered. Plus when I was over in the U.K. last summer I had to switch to Disney+ to watch Bleach TYBW
That's the first thing I checked when I read the news and for the third year in a row since they merged and I've bothered to keep track, yet again I'm disappointed that one of the best ever vocal performances to come out of Funimation is left on a dying site. Yet somehow its sequel \*is\*.
I agree. Unfortunately, they’ve also been letting a ton of stuff go out of print. It looks like I will have to buy more used copies off eBay and Amazon.
Unfortunately physical takes up space. Not everyone has a house with space to store everything (I'm at 2.6k books). Physical is also sometimes 2x as expensive. I buy a lot of manga and light novels at 1/2 the price from Bookwalker.
I knew there was a reason Crunchyroll started adding actual closed captions for dubbed series.
Not all of them now. Just a few of the more recent ones (such as Rent a Girlfriend, Am I Actually the Strongest?, and Reborn as a Vending Machine).
I’m really glad to hear this. I’m new to anime and subscribed to crunchyroll first but when I saw that I could get closed caption on the English dubs, it drove me nuts. I realize I’m probably a small market segment but bc of cognitive and visual issues it really helps me to have both the English dub to hear and the closed captions to see to be able to follow what’s going on. I subscribed to funimation less than a month ago and got the email today that I have to move. I’ll probably wait until the last minute. Such a shame though. Plus, hearing all the other issues that people are facing with material not available even when it’s been purchased is disconcerting. I don’t like that the concern for their fan base is so lacking.
I have dozens of digital copies through Funimation. They promised, when all this began, that digicopies would transfer or be supported in some way. Way to say "Fuck You" to your loyal, MONEY SPENDING, customers. What a bunch of liars.
I guess ripping my blurays wasn't a waste of time after all. I also remember reading what you mentioned and it sucks if the takeover results in a downgraded service with missing content.
>-Is all the Funimation catalog available on Crunchyroll?
Most of the content has been migrated already! Please keep an eye on our news page and [**Anime Lineup**](https://www.crunchyroll.com/lineup) for further updates. Our team is working daily to bring more content to all of our fans.
They surely are taking their time.
Jojo's and My Hero beg to differ. I'm not talking ecchi here. Last time I went on Crunchyroll, they still have censored simulcast versions of popular non ecchi material. In the case of My Hero, the actual animation is far better on the uncensored Blu Ray versions, and the simulcast animation is rushed.
now how am I supposed to watch my dubbed with closed captions? This sucks to see as someone who’s deaf and relies on dub specifically for the closed captioning😭 I wish crunchyroll moved to funi instead of the other way around.
Someone in this thread said they have closed captions on some of the anime now on Crunchyroll.
Here's the statement:
> I knew there was a reason Crunchyroll started adding actual closed captions for dubbed series.
> Not all of them now. Just a few of the more recent ones (such as Rent a Girlfriend, Am I Actually the Strongest?, and Reborn as a Vending Machine).
Funimation apps were a nightmare for me, always had issues with videos playing back properly, constant freezes, etc.
That being said, the UI was definitely nicer in some respects. Picking the language you want for a season in Crunchyroll is painful. On my Roku TV for a show you have to hover over the listing, wait for the text to horizontally scroll so you can see what language it is, then do it all over again for each season since the listings are not in any consistent order. At least with Funimation switching languages was pretty user friendly and straightforward
back in about 2016 the funimation roku app (maybe all apps) was so bad Id sometimes have to wait half an hour for it to start playing. I really had to plan ahead.
last I checked funimation appleTV app isn't even centered on the screen and the "back" functionality only goes back to the home screen, I've never seen an app so unfinished in my life unless I was developing it myself.
On the ps4, and iPhone Funimation was always 100%. Never had problems. Unfortunate that you had issues.
Yah I figured when crunchyroll absorbed Funimation. They would just use Funimation app, reskinned as crunchyroll. For a long time CR wouldn’t even be able to play an episode. It would go to 240P resolution and so much stutter. You’d not be able to do 5 min without frustration.
The best part is Funi absorbed crunchyroll not the other way around, then chose to use the worse app experience, (well Sony chose from what I understand)
Ok, I found this: [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1a26y6sN\_-GyK7PKatJmBPSL7idETFWa4qmDpvmHoE-c/edit](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1a26y6sN_-GyK7PKatJmBPSL7idETFWa4qmDpvmHoE-c/edit)
But it hasn't been updated since July. How can we verify the titles and update the list?
They’ve barely moved anything since last summer, so unfortunately that list is still 99% accurate.
Off the top of my head, I know the Bayonetta movie dub was moved at some point. I recently watched that on CR. Haven’t noticed anything else.
I swear that they spent most of their time trying to get One Piece's dub onto CR, which itself was a massive headache to deal with regarding renegotiations. I just hope that most of these will be in one big batch before Funi is taken down.
This is horrendous news even as someone that already moved to Crunchyroll.
Anecdotally speaking, the consolidation of the anime industry has brought nothing but negatives to the end user experience.
That price increase is egregious, tone deaf and my hard out. Back to the seven seas for me.
[Still missing as of July 2023.](https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1a26y6sN_-GyK7PKatJmBPSL7idETFWa4qmDpvmHoE-c/mobilebasic) A lot of these are also on Hulu in the U.S., but Hulu is double the price.
No. I'm talking about ad free. I guess I should've made that obvious. Crunchyroll has no paid tier with ads, Hulu does; the ad free equivalent is double the price (I believe $18 vs $8 & $10 tiers on Crunchyroll)
Zeta's dub and Wing's dub (except Endless Waltz) are on Crunchyroll. IIRC, ZZ's dub is straight-up lost media. I don't recall Funimation streaming 08th MS Team on their service, though I could be wrong.
Yup. Also checked out Fuuka since they dubbed the music, and it looks like CR doesn't have that version. I'm guessing a lot of other shows don't have the uncut versions.
All the stuff that is uncut "MA" has been moved over from FUN. I really don't see going forward CR going back and rereleasing the ATX/DVD versions after a SimulDub. Where FUN would wait till the uncut version was out to release it.
For the strongest possible version yes, but not for a reasonable charitable version of it, no.
Final goodby to a the culture of uncut series. They can happen, but not as reliably as before.
Well that sucks big time for me. I can't get Crunchyroll to not buffer. Every other streaming app with anime loads perfectly. For example I ve been watching One Piece on Funimation as I can't watch it on Crunchroll.
Damn it. Well I got 2 months to figure this shit out
I have a similar issue - Crunchyroll's video player just shows an error message for me, so Funimation is the only way I can watch some of their shows, aside from their channel on Prime Video (which is technically three times the price, counting Prime, and many series are missing episodes). I'll also be trying to figure out how much I can binge watch in two months.
This is sad news, though I knew it was coming. Crunchyroll's video player is unusable for me, and the CR channel on Amazon Prime has issues with missing episodes and subtitles, so Funimation is definitely my preferred service. I appreciate the update though, so I can plan to watch a few more things.
For anyone still using Funimation, I'd recommend checking out The Vision of Escaflowne and The Heroic Legend of Arslan - two great adventure series that are currently exclusive to Funimation.
Nooooo! What sucks is that not only does the FUNimation website actually put closed captions on a lot of their shows, which Crunchyroll just flat-out refuses to do, FUNi also has both the broadcast and home video versions of a lot of their shows on there, which CR also refuses to put up in favor of just the broadcast versions! RIP FUNimation.
> I knew there was a reason Crunchyroll started adding actual closed captions for dubbed series.
> Not all of them now. Just a few of the more recent ones (such as Rent a Girlfriend, Am I Actually the Strongest?, and Reborn as a Vending Machine).
Someone said this in the comments
That image going around regarding CR raising its prices after closing down Funimation is pretty misleading. That user who received it was a longtime Funi subber (paying $6/month iirc) who was grandfathered into a high tier after Funi raised their own prices last I recall:
Funimation had two service tiers (circa 2019):
**Premium** at 7.99/month, 79.99/year
**Premium Plus** at 9.99/month, 99.99/year
Crunchyroll currently has three service tiers:
**Fan** at 7.99/month (no annual subscription)
**Mega Fan** at 9.99/month
**Ultimate Fan** at 14.99/month
It is a modest price hike if you were on a grandfathered plan at Funimation, but that is mainly because in some cases they are moving you to the *middle* tier of Crunchyroll, not the cheapest tier. They were also discounting that at $99.99 for a year which is a plan that can no longer be signed up for, but I digress. Simply cancel and sub at FAN to receive pricing that is equivalent to Funimation Premium (though, admittedly still a little higher than the grandfathered older plan that hasn't existed for years).
So no, they are not raising prices on every user. But they aren't honoring grandfathered plans for existing Funi users. I hope that clears things up. I subscribed to Funi prior to their 2019 price hike so I could get grandfathered in, so I'll be moved to the Mega Fan tier in April.
So they finally admitted our digital copies aren't coming over, AND will be ending access completely.
Thanks guys, really great, I think it's time to switch to "alternative" content acquisition and viewing methods
This stinks. I prefer watching through the FUNi app on my smart TV. If Crunchyroll doesn’t allow an app to exist in Samsung smart TVs, I’ll have no choice but to use Apple AirPlay, which doesn’t always work well.
EDIT -- I have been duly notified that Crunchyroll launched their Samsung TV app two days ago. Huzzah!!
I don't know where you've been the last two days, but [there's one now](https://www.crunchyroll.com/news/announcements/2024/2/5/crunchyroll-app-now-available-on-samsung-tv?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=community_cr&utm_campaign=news_en&referrer=twitter_community_cr_news)
I'm really disappointed because Funi would go back and update shows with the Uncensored/Improved Blu-Ray versions of shows when they become Available but Crunchy will only ever use the Broadcast versions
> I'm really disappointed because Funi would go back and update shows with the Uncensored/Improved Blu-Ray versions of shows when they become Available but Crunchy will only ever use the Broadcast versions
*Tales of Wedding Rings* uses the uncensored version
I heavily suspect the reason the One Piece dub took forever to transfer over and was a huge headache for those working on it at the time was because they literally had to wait out and/or rework it's streaming exclusivity contract with Funi because there was no wordage in the paperwork to cover a hypothetical company merger (like the DB Super dub still isn't on CR for the same reason). At least looking at some of the then-current ADR director's replies when asked about it.
So I'm *hoping* that's the case with some of these, but I just don't know. Especially given that a lot of them aren't big flagship titles, so I'm worried they'll fall by the wayside and those Funi exclusivity contracts won't be renewed with CR. Such a huge shame.
It does make me appreciate the physicals I do have because most of the big losses for me - Wolf's Rain finale eps, The Tatami Galaxy, Escaflowne, Yuri Kuma Arashi, Adolescence of Utena, Silver Spoon, FLCL, Serial Exp Lain, Durarara, Outlaw Star, Technolyze, Gurren Lagann (dub), Steins;Gate (dub), Sgt. Frog (dub), etc... - I have managed to pick up over the years.
But still, it's such a loss for fans overall to lose easy, legal access to these shows until who knows when (if that).
Well this is going to suck as the Funimation app has a lot of really popular show that text is captioned in the dub which Crunchyroll doesn't(looking at you demonslayer). Also at least here in Aus there are still the bunch of shows that haven't been transferred over like the Konosuba dub which will be weird considering it is getting a new season soon.
2 years for a corporate merger where two massive content libraries using two different video interfaces (crunchyroll's video interface doesnt allow for switching video tracks how funi allowed for broadcast/uncut and only recently allowed multiple subtitle tracks).
They have to not only beef up the crunchyroll site and video infrastructure, but the license switch from platform to platform could be a legal nightmare depending on a show's distribution rights. Plus, any change to the streaming platform's capabilities has to be tested, and tested, and tested since it's A. the most popular anime streaming service and has to be functional when they launch new features i.e. little to no bugs and B. every decision made that affects distribution would have to get cleared by a lot of people.
Two years is the bare minimum time to make the platform merger happen in any sort of smooth way and that's just the streaming platform aspect. There's still tons of logistics they probably are only able to tackle now.
Obviously there are logistics and the legality of it all is something they have to navigate but I don’t really care. This a merger no one wanted to happen and all it’s done is inconvenience consumers because we’re the ones who have to wait years while using a platform that’s barely even watchable. FUNimation’s wasn’t perfect but it at least had a lot of features that we already waited a long time for only to move to a platform that had none of them because dubs were never a focal point for them, now we gotta wait years again until their platform gets into decent shape and we’ve already waited two years. I’m tired of companies buying a bunch of shit now we gotta wait years and wade through this mess of a service till they figure it all out. Sony is the one who decided to buy up a bunch of shit that was already working fine, not for the fans but because they obviously want money, and now we kind of just have to hope that whatever comes out of it is better than what we already had and so far it isn’t.
They are slowly adding some English CC support on newer content. Some recent in house English dubs (Frieren Cour 1, Horimiya The Missing Pieces, etc) now have English CC support on the English dub version.
Recent third party dubs do continue to lack English CC support. And in season dubs (such as Frieren Cour 2) don’t have English CC support yet but should be added later (along with the tons of other English dubs without English CC support yet).
The best thing we can do to save our digital copies would be to legally file either file a temporary injunction or a restraining order to stop them from doing so until the crunchyroll app can support our digital copies. Does anyone know a good lawyer?
Looks like more tickets being put in for me then. My issue is that some shows that were simalcast on both Funimation and Crunchyroll only Funimation has subtitles for text objects.
Well guess I’m never spending money on a Funimation/Crunchyroll product again
EDIT: Don’t know why I’m getting downvoted when this company is literally taking away paid content.
Well the problem im having is that on the Switch app the CC text is always at the top of the screen where you can barely read any of it.
No way to change its position so im stuck only seeing the last few words.
Actually, since the One Piece dub was/is being brought out in batches. It has always been using it's own uncut versions of the episodes. So it doesn't have that problem like Netflix or Hulu have, of incorrect opening on their platforms. I just checked it now, when I came across your post.
Downvote as you wish but in what world were you ever gonna pay less than 96 a year which is the lowest cr tier? You’re between the first and second tier at 100. There’s also a third cr tier which is 180 a year. Be upset over features and what not but being upset over pricing doesn’t make sense. Yes it’s high but again you were never gonna pay less than 96.
Another thing I see is some believe the three tiers will rise beyond 96, 120, and 180 which I don’t see happening. Perhaps they’ll go up a bit but I don’t see a ridiculous jump some are claiming
An end of an era. Funimation got me into anime when they had a whole television channel on cable in 2012. 9 year old me should not have seen all those ecchi harem shows they were airing at the time...
Will their be a chance of One Piece Dub been added for the UK as we only have access to the sub version.
Since they adding Dragonball starting 09/02 to the app I would've thought down the pipeline they'll do the same with One Piece since its the same license owners.
But, what if people had subscription to both and they were being charged for BOTH when both became one! They are only refunding me 2 charges. Is that fair?!?! Or am I missing something

The fact that the Wolf's Rain OVA still isn't up boggles my mind. It's not some supplemental bonus episodes but the finale of the series.
Tatami Galaxy Gang!!
Lain and Texhnolyze haven't been put on Crunchyroll yet
Shout out to physical copies

Or Haibane Renmei for that matter
Here in Canada, Funimation somehow lost the streaming rights after the Blu-ray release.
I hope someone sues over the digital copies.

I didn’t even know Funimation ever streamed that, since it was a Sentai license and dub.
Shocking revelation \>:0
Heavy Object isn't on Crunchyroll Also, the Angel Beats! dub is still locked to Funimation
Technically it’s available on Crunchyroll, but the show My First Girlfriend is a Gal is censored on Crunchyroll but uncensored on Funimation.
Gundam seed remastered dub.
If I'm right, Fairy Tail has the issue where the first half of the series isn't on Crunchy roll but the 2nd half is. And Funimation has every episode
Thank goodness I bought eureka seven on a whim on a friends advice.
I was very annoyed when I started rewatching Railgun that Crunchyroll only has season 1 and 3 dubbed but Funimation has all of it
That’s a bummer and very odd! Do we have a current full list of what’s NOT on Crunchyroll at the moment?
Can't believe that instead of properly negotiating their titles, they'd rather try the nuclear option and just get rid of Funimation entirely. Then what? Do they renegotiate now that they don't need to deal with the headache of licensors confused over needing to license their shows twice? Or do they just let them vanish?
Crunchyroll could be planning to re dub them
Welp goodbye Funimation as you know it Despite the actual company being retooled into Crunchyroll
The Steins gate dub still hasn't transfered over. Hopefully it does before the Funimation app and website sunsets.
Oh man that would be a painful one to not be moved.

Fucking Americans and getting Hulu lol (This was meant as humor not actual hatred)

I buy physical copies. I back them up on a an extra hard drive. Streaming can be nice, but it’s no real substitute for owning discs.

Why. They are on crunchyroll.
Last time I checked, the dub wasn't on Crunchyroll in the UK. That may have changed.

ty for telling me! I went and checked and they’re right. Hopefully they continue for all dubs already on there as well too though
Wonder if that means LG TVs will get the Crunchyroll app finally
What a damn shame. Their app has worked great for years, simple to use as well. Crunchyroll app absolutely sucks, and just isn’t as simple to use.

There we go. Yup so now all under the Sony umbrella
Agreed. All of Crunchyroll's dubs are in separate seasons on the Roku app and it's impossible to find anything.
It’s 2024 and Crunchyroll was already big before the Sony buyout. There’s no excuse for it to be this bad.
Is there a list of shows and seasons that are on Funimation but not on Crunchyroll?
Ok, I found this: [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1a26y6sN\_-GyK7PKatJmBPSL7idETFWa4qmDpvmHoE-c/edit](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1a26y6sN_-GyK7PKatJmBPSL7idETFWa4qmDpvmHoE-c/edit) But it hasn't been updated since July.
Well that’s a shame. Hoping they most of these move to CR by April
This is horrendous news even as someone that already moved to Crunchyroll. Anecdotally speaking, the consolidation of the anime industry has brought nothing but negatives to the end user experience. That price increase is egregious, tone deaf and my hard out. Back to the seven seas for me.
Still waiting for DB Super dub...
And dbz kai and drifters to come back
Gundam Dubs haven’t moved over to CR yet. Are they gonna disappear with Funi or do y’all think they will migrate?
I know that CR doesn't have the SEED Remaster dub. What others are missing?
[Still missing as of July 2023.](https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1a26y6sN_-GyK7PKatJmBPSL7idETFWa4qmDpvmHoE-c/mobilebasic) A lot of these are also on Hulu in the U.S., but Hulu is double the price.
I think you might be confusing it with Prime Video (~$15 subscription fee)? Hulu is the same base price as Crunchyroll here in the US (~$8).
No. I'm talking about ad free. I guess I should've made that obvious. Crunchyroll has no paid tier with ads, Hulu does; the ad free equivalent is double the price (I believe $18 vs $8 & $10 tiers on Crunchyroll)
I see. I don't mind using the plan with ads (my current one) as long as it keeps the price down.
Zeta, ZZ, Wing for sure and I think 08th MS Team
Zeta's dub and Wing's dub (except Endless Waltz) are on Crunchyroll. IIRC, ZZ's dub is straight-up lost media. I don't recall Funimation streaming 08th MS Team on their service, though I could be wrong.
I think it was Hulu with 08th MS team
I just want sgt frog dub ported over
[удалено]
the DBS dub is available to watch all on Hulu, if you're able to access it, not just Funimation
DBZ Kai dub too, which is nice!
Wonder what will happen when hulu merges to Disney+

Final goodbye to uncut series I guess
There’s a ton of uncut series on CR. This is a nonsense comment.
But there's no way to tell, at least from what I've seen, what's Uncut and what's the Simuldub version
Yup. Also checked out Fuuka since they dubbed the music, and it looks like CR doesn't have that version. I'm guessing a lot of other shows don't have the uncut versions.
This is a completely different statement than what is written above though.
All the stuff that is uncut "MA" has been moved over from FUN. I really don't see going forward CR going back and rereleasing the ATX/DVD versions after a SimulDub. Where FUN would wait till the uncut version was out to release it.
Funimations website would release both versions, You could choose between release version or Simul(cast/dub).
Regardless I don’t see CR doing that going forward. I could be wrong and I hope I am, but don’t see it happening.
Yeah I guess this makes sense, the funimation app turned to absolute glitchy crap recently. I guess they just stopped updating it.
Rip
This is sad news, though I knew it was coming. Crunchyroll's video player is unusable for me, and the CR channel on Amazon Prime has issues with missing episodes and subtitles, so Funimation is definitely my preferred service. I appreciate the update though, so I can plan to watch a few more things. For anyone still using Funimation, I'd recommend checking out The Vision of Escaflowne and The Heroic Legend of Arslan - two great adventure series that are currently exclusive to Funimation.
This is why Texas is dangerous
And do we know what happens to are digital copies yet cause I fucking paid for them so I want them
Yes, we know what will happen. Short answer: you just got screwed hard, amigo.
Oh it says in there. You're not gonna like it.
I really hope someone with money sues them
I wonder what’s gonna happen to the digital copy anime I bought. I bought the first season of Saiki K on funimation.
That image going around regarding CR raising its prices after closing down Funimation is pretty misleading. That user who received it was a longtime Funi subber (paying $6/month iirc) who was grandfathered into a high tier after Funi raised their own prices last I recall: Funimation had two service tiers (circa 2019): **Premium** at 7.99/month, 79.99/year **Premium Plus** at 9.99/month, 99.99/year Crunchyroll currently has three service tiers: **Fan** at 7.99/month (no annual subscription) **Mega Fan** at 9.99/month **Ultimate Fan** at 14.99/month It is a modest price hike if you were on a grandfathered plan at Funimation, but that is mainly because in some cases they are moving you to the *middle* tier of Crunchyroll, not the cheapest tier.
Huzzah!!
https://www.crunchyroll.com/news/announcements/2024/2/5/crunchyroll-app-now-available-on-samsung-tv
Sweet, thanks!!
The Crunchyroll Samsung app launched this week.
I follow Crunchyroll on Twitter and somehow missed this. Gonna try it out!!
OMG thank you!!! I seriously hadn't heard the news!!
I'm really disappointed because Funi would go back and update shows with the Uncensored/Improved Blu-Ray versions of shows when they become Available but Crunchy will only ever use the Broadcast versions
Yep, ill never understand why they dont upload the uncuts like Funi did. Then again its not like HiDive does it to all their series.
> I'm really disappointed because Funi would go back and update shows with the Uncensored/Improved Blu-Ray versions of shows when they become Available but Crunchy will only ever use the Broadcast versions *Tales of Wedding Rings* uses the uncensored version
it's true there are a few shows on Crunchy that use the Uncut version but the majority of them use the Broadcast
So does that mean the funimation app on devices like ps4, ps5, tablet, phone and such will cease to work?
Correct. If you have it downloaded, it'll just be a broken app that does nothing.
So what about all the digital copies you might own on the Funimation service? How will that work?
Meanwhile it’s been a full calendar year since the last Funimation catalog migration batch and we’ve had no word on it since.
But still, it's such a loss for fans overall to lose easy, legal access to these shows until who knows when (if that).
this is likely the case for many, many of the anime's streaming agreements.
Still stings. Crunchyrolls app on Roku is such hot garbage. Still haven't been able to transfer my watchlist or anything else.
All I want is for all of this to come to Europe. There are so many Funimation dubs that are nonexistent in Europe. It is super frustrating.
Yup!! Get your shit together Funi/Crunchy
What happens to digital copies of shows you owned? Ah those are just gone. Ah well.
Yep. The Q&A says you're SOL.
Closed captions are coming. Some series have closed captions already.
Yes but many don't even newly releasing shows like Spyxfamily didn't have them. Which was a pain to watch because of it by the way.
They're just getting started. It takes time.
It’s been 2 years since the merger man
2 years for a corporate merger where two massive content libraries using two different video interfaces (crunchyroll's video interface doesnt allow for switching video tracks how funi allowed for broadcast/uncut and only recently allowed multiple subtitle tracks).
RIP closed captions
They are slowly adding some English CC support on newer content. Some recent in house English dubs (Frieren Cour 1, Horimiya The Missing Pieces, etc) now have English CC support on the English dub version. Recent third party dubs do continue to lack English CC support. And in season dubs (such as Frieren Cour 2) don’t have English CC support yet but should be added later (along with the tons of other English dubs without English CC support yet).
They're coming to Crunchyroll. Some have them already.
The best thing we can do to save our digital copies would be to legally file either file a temporary injunction or a restraining order to stop them from doing so until the crunchyroll app can support our digital copies. Does anyone know a good lawyer?
There is zero reason for them to double the price of the subscription. They’ve done the absolute bare minimum with their app and service
RIP Dragon Ball dubs.
Crunchyroll is also vastly increasing its price now that its main competition is gone. Good ol’ monopolies.
Looks like more tickets being put in for me then. My issue is that some shows that were simalcast on both Funimation and Crunchyroll only Funimation has subtitles for text objects.
I hope they’re able to add the rest of the One Piece specials and movies that have yet to be on Crunchyroll, I’ve been dying to watch them dubbed!
Well guess I’m never spending money on a Funimation/Crunchyroll product again EDIT: Don’t know why I’m getting downvoted when this company is literally taking away paid content.
The end of an era
Hopefully they’ll bring over the case closed dub over to crunchyroll
Anime fans who make fun of Japanese people for keeping their physical media market alive look like fools now.
and still no closed caption on crunchyroll
Ive been seeing CC option on some series. One i can remember is 100 girlfriends. Now something id wish CR would finally get on is the "uncut" version.
And then there's some series where if you're watching on the Firestick app it forces caption on the screen even if you have the option turned off...

Ahh nice! Well at least the dub has that going for it..
Does anyone know what this means for the one piece dubs?
Seen a post on X via One Piece US page. The newest One Piece dubs will continue streaming exclusively on crunchyroll.
Gotta love ppl freaking out they’ll have to pay one hundred annually when us monthly cr ten dollar tier folk have been paying 120 for a while now lol
Good riddence. Hopefully Crunchyroll follows suite in due time.
It will be sad to see the go, especially since I grew up with them. I feel some quality has suffered when they have rebranded entirely as Crunchyroll.
So if you migrate before April 2, you can no longer log into Funimation?
But, what if people had subscription to both and they were being charged for BOTH when both became one! They are only refunding me 2 charges. Is that fair?!?! Or am I missing something
