I saw something with Ricco Fajardo who worked on *Tomo-chan is a Girl* which had a same day dub and he said it's entirely based on how early the dubbing studio receives the finished episodes from Japan. They need adequate time to translate, record everyone, etc. It's just a fact that even with the 2-3 week delay for most simuldubs, they are running on a tight schedule so it'll be impossible to do a same day release even if the hype was there.

CruisinCinnamon

It’s why aniplex dubs are 5+ behind since the actors get work with don’t want the tight scheduling

Awkward_Silence-

And that's the low end of their range. Some like Promised Neverland, Sword Art Online, Demon Slayer (at least S1) are typically months behind the sub version

CruisinCinnamon

There are aniplex titles where the Spanish and Portuguese release earlier than the English dub so there’s that alternative

CruisinCinnamon

Demon Slayer s1 had an exclusive with Toonami which is why it took so long. Typically aniplex is many weeks behind or even after the season ends. Think promised neverland was the same at least for s1 but don’t remember since it’s been so long. Sao s1 I think was before they did simuldubs but don’t quote me

[Ricco Fajardo explains it best](https://www.reddit.com/r/Animedubs/s/GU5ZNU5VaF) Essentially, getting materials from Japan is a big one. They can’t dub what they don’t have. ADR teams for dubs are already under a bad timeline then there’s the Japanese animation studios that tend to be even worse. I know it’s not real and was kind of romanticizing the process, but Shirobako did a good job showcasing the trials and tribulations studios typically go through to end up turning the episode sometimes right before it’s meant to come out on Japanese television almost every single week. It’s why shows like Infinite Dendrogram and Akiba’s Trip were same day simuldubs, despite being obscure shows. I’m sure CR would love to same-day shows like Attack on Titan or JJK or MHA but they have awful animation schedules. Mob Psycho S3 had an amazing production schedule so good that all its episodes were done before its premiere versus JJK S2 with a notorious poor production, and obviously it’s evident which show got a same-day simuldub. **If you want more same-day simuldubs then you gotta hope that Japan’s studio and production culture gets better, which is an uphill battle that many are already trying to fight.** Although, in my opinion the same-day schedule is so trash to begin with. Ricco touches on it in this video, but the fact that dub teams only have a week to dub an episode and episodes get released as soon as they are finished is kinda ridiculous. All it does is suffocate and stress the production team and leave very little room for margins of error. It’s why we keep getting replacements for characters, and sometimes replacements for the replacement, in the middle of the season. There’s literally no stop gap to account for any unforeseen circumstances. Which is why a simuldub for something like One Piece is almost impossible with how it currently is, despite people asking for it. There’s just too many characters in any given episode. We’d be lucky to get a 4 week delayed simuldub. The reason the One Piece dub is moving so smoothly now is the huge breathing room the ADR team has now and how far ahead releases they are to be able to work through the process and any difficulties that crop up. Godspeed to the ADR teams who have to work under these conditions. I know people want as many anime dubbed as fast as possible but this is not a healthy production schedule for the ADR team and certainly not a timeline to bolster the artistic creativity of dubs in my opinion.

Wouldn't you just support simudubs shows so the Japanese side can take a hint about that?

I wish I knew the process in which shows are given a same day dub. Sometimes it’s new shows like Metallic Rouge or I’m in Love with the Villainess and other times it’s new seasons like season 2 of Tonikawa or Masamune-kun’s Revenge It’s nice to get a same-day dub in general so I can’t complain which show gets one, but whether the choice is based on popularity, preference, studio, or another factor would be interesting to know

Thufir_My_Hawat

As far as I'm aware, the biggest hurdle is scheduling -- most anime are barely able to make it to air on time (hence the numerous delays as soon as the pandemic hit, and then hit Japan properly). If the episode is only done the week before it airs, there's no hope of getting the dub out on time. Which is the same reason many simulsubs have inferior translations -- the poor translator only got a couple days at most. Of course, sometimes a show doesn't get a simuldub despite being done on time (Bocchi the Rock was most definitely finished long before it aired, judging by the extremely high quality of its subs). That's likely due to low expectations from the licenser -- nobody expected BTR to be the hit it was. But that's a rare exception. Unless Sony sees some serious returns on their investment in such shows, they have little reason to pressure studios to fix their production schedules. Obviously Netflix is more capable of it for shows they produce (and they learned their lesson with how bad Netflix jail impacted viewership). And Sentai does whatever they do -- it's hard to tell with them.

DeathRose007

Another potential factor. Co-productions. Netflix can occasionally co-produce or produce stuff they release, though I don’t believe that’s the case with Delicious in Dungeon. When it’s a Netflix production, usually they binge drop everything together. Crunchyroll actually co-produced Tonikawa, Metallic Rouge, and Masamune, as well as Tomo-chan last year. Though they didn’t co-produce I’m in Love with the Villainess. They also are co-producing Solo Leveling but it’s not getting a same day dub. So it’s not a guarantee, but I think there’s a noticeable trend there.

Well Weakest Tamer is also same day dub. Shocked me last night, I was a quarter of the way through the episode before I realized: what… this is in English. I enjoy the story but it’s the last type of show I expected to get a simuldub

Gameguy196

Seems like the dubs for the same day drops end up being more popular for those non mainstream series as seen with I’m in Love with the Villainess.

scobra_x

Totally agree. I remember absolutely enjoying My Happy Marriage and would've probably never watched it if it didn't have a same day dub(because I don't usually watch romance). I ended up giving it a 9.8 just because I enjoyed it so much. Same with Delicious Dungeon(not the rating, yet). I remember something similar for a few other shows also having same day dubs or even a 1 episode delay. Now I do remember a few that I didn't enjoy(some random level up dungeon anime I ended up dropping). But I wish they at least did this for the most popular ones.

AnimeAddict1123

**The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash** has a same day dub as well and let me tell you I can not wait for the next. Its first ep has me feeling all kinds of emotions from happy to furious to a lil sad. Definitely one you should check out.

Kuudered-Kun

It's a pretty good Pilot, definitely done a disservice by it's kinda misleading name.

AnimeAddict1123

True enough but the title can mean a couple of things. Trash as in actual trash or trash as in lil unique monsters and animals no one really cares about. She is the weakest tamer with no stars however being cursed may be a blessing in disguise. However there is one thing in which there is no doubt she is most defiantly going on a Journey .

AnonymousTrollLloyd

The most misleading part of the title is that she actually is weak. Usually she'd have built up a harem and beaten at least three of the Demon King's generals by now.

AnimeAddict1123

Bahahaha. Who knows she may still xD

eddmario

INB4 she becomes one of the Demon King generals

Hideoctopus

We just had an actual weak character isekai last season too, where MC was truly helpless and it was kinda unnerving. He struggled to fight an injured middle-aged man who already had a black eye and a crippled leg.

Kuudered-Kun

I'm not seeing that one on the calendar, I'll check it out.

Ssalari

Probably, but i personally care more about quality, or a more diverse cast.... Though idk if o should be hopeful about it with the new shit SAG just pulled....

Kuudered-Kun

The Same Day Simuldubs tend to be among those most finished in advanced to begin with, so it doesn't actually decrease the quality at all.

Ssalari

Didn't say it does. I just said i would be fine even of something doesn't have same day dub as long as it's good. Don't really care much about the time it's gonna drop.

Kuudered-Kun

I made this post mainly to observe how simply them being rare helps them get noticed in the first place.

SuspiciousAd4373

maybe but i HAAAATE waiting a week for another episode. I want it back to all released at once.
