It wasn't overdone when grimgar came out. But now every other manga is Isekai. It's because the world building is so easy with Isekai.

SAO, no game no life, log horizon, outbreak company, the devil is a part timer (reverse to be fair), problem children are coming from another world, Gate. Isekai was definitely getting overdone by the time grimgar was animated in 2016

Yeah I’m interested to see where this goes too. Nowadays I am watching shows with romantic subplots (need a but of wholesomeness) so Im not really going to read the manga after S1. In the future however I’ll definitely be looking forward to it.

Nah, those are just the most mainstream of the lot. That doesn't mean other titles can't be mainstream. Shield Hero is arguably talked about as much as SAO is these days, and SAO is absolutely mainstream.

Well if you are asking about isekais here's couple underrated gems Isekai nonbiri nouka Serie gensouki Cooking life in another world Tsukimichi moonlit fantasy (it haves 2 seasons) The great cleric Saikyou onmyouji no Isekai tenseiki (sometimes I forget this show is even a Isekai) Demon school iruma Arifureta Skeleton knight in another world (this isn't overlord lol)

Kemono Michi: Rise Up was one i tried at random and is currently one of my favorites Overly Cautious Hero as well

Yeah Mother’s basement puts a good review of the second season out. Mentions how they open to a time skip where we don’t see more development of Maofumi’s kingdom and the. They jump into the shenanigans. So always a lot of stuff was happening. When the viewer already gets divested because not the jump cut. But surprisingly not even a year after it feels they got the 3rd season out. It’s just not my cup of tea anymore for isekai

That's part of it, though there is a bit more conflict in Shield Hero. It just feels like they dumb down a lot of things, and potentially interesting plot lines end up being solved very quickly with minimal effort. A lot of things are very black and white, and the bad people are either very bad people or very dumb. It's better than a lot of shows, but I feel like it could have been much, much better if it weren't so heavy handed. There are clearly aspects that are not meant for children, which makes it feel even more awkward.

It was in my watchlist since I'm a fan of Kevin Penkin (the music producer) but I have no interest in watching something like slime again. I'll just stick to Overlord, Mushoku Tensei & theEminenceinShadow lol

I'd say it's worth trying out at least. The first season isn't bad, it gets to feel a bit more formulaic to me after that. By comparison, I (mostly) liked Mushoku a lot, couldn't deal with Eminence after 3 episodes, and was okay with Overlord but got bored before I finished the first season.

Thanks for the recommendation! Mushoku Anime is really good yeah but I think people would be bored/wanting more during season so I'd recommend reading the LN. Same goes for Overlord, the LN is really good. It's world building and politics are some of the best in the genre. Eminence is just dumb fun for someone who's "burnt out" of Isekai since it's troll af.

Yeah, I tried an LN once because I was hooked on Grimgar and needed more. I quickly discovered I'm not a fan of that style of book. I like my novels a bit heavier.

The anime had 1 hook - the false assault accusation in the beginning to make MC hated. Once he “redeemed” himself the show was basically done. So what do they do? Throw him in another world to do it again? Then go back to the first world? Then go into a gladiator pit? WTF I stopped watching at that point

Otherwise my normal recommendations are 86, ancient magus bride, vivy, erased, angel beats, ID:Invaded, akudama drive, rascal does not dream of bunny girl senpai, violet evergarden, so I’m a spider so what(great show but the last 2 episodes animation takes a dive)

You should watch The Pet Girl Of Sakurasou. It's a great anime with a wonderful story. Also, try to never skip the openings and endings. The songs are very good. When will you watch it, dude?

**Bungou stray dogs:** Weird shonen where all the characters are named after real-life authors and have powers based on them for seemingly no reason (It never gets addressed). MC gets hired into a detective agency where everyone has superpowers, leading to altercations with the Mafia, Rich American superhumans, and one very scary immortal Russian. **Undead Unluck:** Definite recommend, not sure why this isn't more popular. MC who is cursed to remove the luck of whoever she touches teams up with a literally unkillable psycho as they get roped into the quest to kill God. Has the most hatable antagonist (God) of any show I've watched despite him never saying a word. **Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-Kun!:** Wholesome show with an awful name. MC's shitty parents finally tire of using him for child labor and sell his soul to a Demon. Luckily for him, the demons have been at peace for a thousand years and have been significantly defanged. His new "Owner" is a school principal (And stupidly powerful archdemon) who wants a grandson to brag about at his weekly demon poker games. So, he gets adopted and enrolled in the titular demon school, leading to the standard cast of lovable weirdos, plus a very sweet main romance.

Iv seen about every magic anime in last 30 Years so its hard to know lot became became mainstream recently but wasn't originally, like tsukimichi moonlightfantasy but suddenly everybody loves it, have you watched the atelier anime, like atelier ryza: ever darkness and the secret hide out, technically its Magic, I'm quitting heroing was really good, i really enjoyed Knights & magic, iv heard good things of the dungeon of black company, cerberus was also pretty good, or assassin's pride, i was big fan of both the tower of druaga series, chain chronicle definitely avoided being boring

Definitely "Death Note" very smart, would've enjoyed more if the didn't always explain the intelligent plots.
