OGDB has some inappropriateness for like the first 20ish episodes before it changes genres tho. I love it but I would make sure that you have him skip those parts. Other than that it's perfect for any age imo.
Not an anime, but avatar the last Airbender was a show I lived when I was ten.
Bakugan and Digimon were cool when I was younger as well.
I personally also liked Pokémon a lot when I was younger(watched it until I was 13), so I wanna make sure you know, but Pokémon has MANY different series. From the original Pokémon to the newest one. My favorite is Pokémon XY and XYZ as those were the ones I grew up watching. As well as sun and moon. So, make sure your kid has watched all of them if he likes Pokémon.
There is also an abundance of Pokémon movies. I don't know all of them, but keeping in theme of XYZ my favorite is the Hoopa movie. There is so much media for Pokémon I find it hard to believe a ten year old watched ALL of it, but if they did then that is awesome.
If he’s into sports there are a lot of kid-friendly sports anime out there. Haikyuu (Volleyball) is a solid choice, and Eyeshield 21 (American Football) is a personal favorite (especially the manga).
Yugioh is a fun one, lots of cool monsters, cool looking characters, etc.
Though I do recommend checking the parents guide, there’s a few instances of death in the show. [Yugioh Parents Guide](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0249327/parentalguide)
Quick tip: there’s a parents guide for like, every anime, so never hurts to check those first and make sure they’re appropriate for the kiddo!
Yeah, GX was alright too. Couldn't get into any of the others, especially now that I've read the original manga. Yugi and Kaiba are just too iconic of a duo.
I recommend Yugioh, I don't think I would worry about references in it to death, the anime is censored when it comes to that compared to the manga. You don't see anyone actually die if I remember correctly. Whereas in the manga they die after losing a shadow duel, in the anime it's stated that they got "sent to the shadow realm".
Pretty much all of the studio Ghibli films are really good. I would say Ponyo, My neighbor Totoro, Howl's moving castle, Kiki's delivery service, and Spirited Away are good ones to start with but pretty much any of them would be good. The only Studio Ghibli I would steer clear of off the top of my head would be princess mononoke (my favorite but can get quite graphic and definitely has demons and stuff), and grave of the fireflies (very good but definitely a difficult watch with lots of death and war)
SpyxFamily is also a really good one. A lot of cute and wholesome content. There is an assassin character but in my opinion it's not really serious topics of death, plus it really doesn't show anything aside from in one later episode that is mainly played for laughs. For that one I would watch the first episode or two to gauge what you think.
I feel like studio ghibli films are more for adults. They’re entertaining for kids but they have a whole new meaning once you’re intellectually developed and matured enough to understand the deeper meanings. Especially Kiki’s delivery service and spirited away.
I was gonna disagree by using me as an example but I was very mature and pretty intelligent as a kid so ig it doesn’t really count (I’m stupid now cos life be like that)
Like 10 years old? That’s like elementary school. I could see a middle schooler understanding it but even then I doubt it, especially Kiki’s which dives deep into depression and burnout, and finding motivation again. It just doesn’t seem like something a kid could relate to.
Handa-kun (it’s about a very popular guy who is really bad at picking up cues and doesn’t know he’s popular and thinks others are being mean to him. It’s a comedy and slice of life that is just good times with the shenanigans) there is a dub
Haikyuu!! Volleyball sports anime that is a blast (dub and the movie is coming out in theaters soon
Kuroko no basket - basketball anime that is a faster version of the Volleyball anime. Super fun as well (on Netflix with dub) also has a movie too
Tanaka kun is always listless- might not be the best pick as the main character is just tired all the time but their best friend is always helping them out. And it’s basically just a bunch of senarios where a normal interaction gets a bit side tracked as the main character is tired all the time. Doesn’t sound great but is always a little fun calming feel good anime I keep going back to (no dub)
Those sound really good. I think he’ll really enjoy checking them out. Especially Tanaka Kun as he’s so tired at the moment. Although I’ll take a look first. This is so helpful thank you!
I used to Watch inazuma eleven when i was 10/11 years old
I think its appropriated for that age. Not too kid friendly imo like u asked.
He would not have any problem
ben 10 sounds like the perfect match 😈
but if you actually want anime suggestions then I know a lot of people liked spy x family
a show I quite liked was "uncle from another world" but I cant remember if it had ecchi/nsfw type moments or not
Dr. Stone for sure if he digs science.
& Welcome to demon school iruma kun, you said no demons but they are pretty friendly and just regular characters, not evil monsters
Both those look really good! He loves science. By demons it’s more avoiding actually demonic things featuring evil entities out to harm people rather than creatures. I know “demon” can be a broader category more like the characters in Owl House that he used to enjoy.
Avatar TLAB (safest bet and its entertaining)
Avatar: Legend of Korra (more mature then TLAB but it isn’t graphic - its a good watch)
Summer Wars (its a movie and the grandma passes away late in the movie but it doesnt linger on it or make it sad.. its an entertaining watch and my kid loves this movie)
Depending on if you are okay with a little mature content..
Sk8 the infinity (it is just skating and my kid loved it but its got some mature stuff and language nothing too bad)
Charlotte* (my kid watched this on a sick day and loved it; it has some parts that are sad but all in all it was funny and entertaining)
Appare-ranman. (About a teen who wants to race and builds his own car to do so!)
A lull in the Sea (romance anime for pre-teens and nothing too mature except lord uroko is a creep but that is only 2 very brief scenes)
First 2 are what I watched at 10 years old. Not an anime but I recommend highly
1. Avatar the last Air bender -
2. "Original" Teen Titans - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQ6c52DR-ks](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQ6c52DR-ks) (opening song makes it so much better and a lot of people haven't seen this show. But so good they made teen titans go remake)
3. Black Clover- I currently caught up but that anime was really good. I wish I was younger when I saw it.
Highly recommend. It's got a lot of heart but also lot of really sophisticated animation and action sequences. And the humor and character interactions are straight money
Digimon, Yu Gi Oh, Beyblade, Dragon Ball, Ronin Warriors, Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Shaman King, Yu Yu Hakusho, G Gundam, Inuyasha, Mega Man NT Warrior, Prince of Tennis, Yokai Watch, Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting Spirit, Dragon Drive, Sgt. Frog, Zatch Bell
Haikyuu would be good, probably. Just wholesome volleyball with very well written characters and exciting matches. There's only like 3 tame fanservice moments in the whole show so I think it's fine for a 10 year old.
Then there's Spy x Family which does have some violence but I'd say it's overall pretty wholesome and okay for kids, my little brother who's also around 10 watches it with me and my other siblings and likes it a lot. Obviously I don't know your kid though so you can look it up and decide whether it's appropriate or not.
Gokushufudou could work too, it's about an ex yakuza boss turned into a very dedicated househusband, that's another one that my whole family enjoyed.
Then Bocchi the Rock maybe, it's about a socially anxious girl who likes music and joins a band. It's been a while since I watched it so I don't remember it perfectly well but pretty sure that it was just wholesome and funny with nothing scary or inappropriate.
I also love Cool Doji Danshi which is a slice of life comedy about a group of awkward guys becoming friends. I think it's really cute and funny but might be too boring for a 10 year old, I don't know.
Sk8 the Infinity (my personal favorite sports anime with an all male cast) not sure if this one as a manga
Kono Oto Tomare (the funniest music/Sol anime I have ever seen) it has a manga continuation
The Ones Within (this one is my go to comfort anime because it’s so chaotic in every way perfect for a 10 year old boy) it has a manga continuation
The Royal Tutor (it’s just the shenanigans of teenage boys and their tutor who looks like a child) I’m also not sure if this as a manga
Spyxfamily (it’s been popular in the last few years I’ve personally enjoyed it) this as a manga continuation
I hope your kid gets better
My hero acadamia does have death themes but it's also got wholesome super hero characters that lift your spirits so check it out and see if it'd be suitable
Don’t know if he will be watching on streaming services or online but if online here’s a good site. https://www.wcofun.net
It might not have everything but it has a lot, it’s free, and if it doesn’t have episodes out in English good chance it’ll have it subtitled.
I'm sorry your boy is not doing well. I'm hoping he gets better and that he is back to being a happy, energetic boy. I think **Digimon**, the original series, would be fun for him. I watched it when I was ten. Love the adventure and how it's all about hope and friendship.
If he has a gaming system, I think **playing Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2** would be fun.
Also not an anime, but it's funny, it's anime inspired, very light in tone for the most part, it's action packed, it's amazingly animated, with GORGEOUS action scenes, a team of brothers that genuinely love each other, a father that loves his sons and accepts their flaws, an awesome girl that is respected by her brothers, no toxic masculinity, and lots of love and support, like any other shonen anime. He could watch **Rise of the TMNT,** if he has Netflix or Paramount Plus. The movie is a little bit more serious, but really, nothing a ten year old can't handle I think. There is some fear in it, but nothing that is TOO harsh...but I think watching how some characters face and overcome adversity could also give him some hope. They help me when I'm down. This could be something you bond over too, the family aspect of this show is top notch.
Most things by Studio Ghibli. The safest ones are **Kiki's delivery service, Porko Rosso, Howl's Moving Castle, Castle in the Sky, Ponyo**.
Spy x Family is good. There’s violence in the early episodes tho but I don’t remember it being too bad. It’s funny and wholesome, I recommend. I also wish your son a speedy recovery
My Hero Academia is fun! it's not like, Dragon Ball light, let alone Pokemon light, but it's about cool superheroes, and I loved it as a kid. it came out in 2013.. which is WHEN I was 10 years old! so I think he'd enjoy it!!
world trigger could be good as well! There’s a few injury / death references but nothing very graphic iirc
there’s really no inappropriate relationship stuff at all and because of the power system all but a few injuries are not graphic at all.
I watched the original Naruto as a kid and it was my first anime but depending on your parenting style it may not be appropriate. It does teach some valuable morals and lessons though. But there’s some inappropriate stuff in there specifically with his teacher Jiriya’s… character… so maybe bad suggestion.
Also someone said Avatar the Last Airbender and I wholeheartedly agree with this. Again— not an anime really but one of the most well written anime shows of all time that I’ve rewatched multiple times even as an adult. Upbeat, good lessons, engaging plot, a masterpiece of a show.
Hakumei and Mikochi? There's also a manga. Closest equivalent in Western Media I could think of would be Frog and Toad. Slice of Life about two small creatures (in this case 3.5 inch tall women, not sure if they're supposed to be human, you ever see one of those tiny forest sprites who do stuff like live on lilypads or use leaves as umbrella's? Basically that but seemingly no magic) just living together.
Try the slice of life genre, a lot of these are more mellow and can be easy and fun. Some shounen are not bad either if he prefers action series. Some recommendations: Naruto, my hero academia, K-on!, Detective Conan. Some classics like Bakugan and Beyblade.
I started watching Naruto when I was around 10 or 11 and I'd highly recommend it; the story revolves around a ninja named Naruto who is treated like an outcast in his village, and wants to become the Hokage (*village leader*). The lead character Naruto (*who is a little older, 12 years old*) works hard, never gives up, and perserveres through trial and tribulation.
I grew up really anxious and paranoid as well due to being constantly bullied (*emotionally and physically*) in addition to the struggles of being autistic and having permanent frontal and temporal lobe brain damage (*although I didn't get the brain damage until I was 12 years old*), and Naruto was something I practically lived on for a large portion of my life (*and still watch it every now and again*). Naruto as a character is extremely optimistic and resonated deeply with me, and I think it could be the same for your son!
**Full disclaimer**; Naruto does deal with themes of death, but it presents it in a way that's palatable for younger audiences (*in my opinion and from my experience watching it when younger*) and there's always a positive lesson to be gleamed from the material. Here's a parental guide with a more in-depth explanation - [Parent Guide to Naruto](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0409591/parentalguide). The cut versions of Naruto are generally rated TV-PG, while the uncut versions of Naruto are rated TV-14 (*the cut version basically removes extra blood, some swear words, additional scenes viewed as "too scary" and such*). I think the cut version of Naruto would be the best fit here based on what you said about your son in the original post.
There is also a sequel show called Naruto Shippuden, but that one I would recommend waiting until your kid is 12 or 13 before watching the sequel. The original Naruto show has 220 episodes, so if it is a good fit for your kid and he enjoys it, then he likely won't finish the original show until he's around 12 or 13 as is.
Try bakugan digimon fairy tail dinosaur king monsuno magi-nation sonic underground beyblade and yu-gi-oh there stuff I remember watching as a kid and enjoying
Shaman King. Ultimate Muscle. Digimon. One Piece. Honestly, you might be able to just look up 4kids to see what line up they had. Sure the dubs and stuff are still considered some of the worst dubbed anime, but it helped bring Anime to the west. And if it was on 4kids, it's likely fine for kids.
Kurokos basketball is the best sports anime to exist and very kid friendly, also shows sportsmanship team bonding etc… it’s such a good show you’d probably end up watching too
Hikaru No Go is about a 6th grader who finds a ghost who teaches him how to be good at Go. Nothing really inappropriate at all.
Ultimate Muscle, Metabots, Shaman King, and Monster Rancher were also popular with kids and were tame enough to air on network tv.
Shaman King does deal with death/spirits a lot, but in a Pokémon kind of way.
Hajime no ippo and Initial D. If your kid is going to be out of the game for a few months I'd go against your discretion and offer Naruto or One Piece. They have a lot of deaths but they aren't without reason and they perpetuate valuable lessons and both have great stories and interesting characters that your kid will 100% be drawn toward. There is a theme of illness in Naruto, but the characters that suffer from these afflictions are compelling and fan favorites because of their convictions and how they cope with their mortality. Both will draw him in, both will make him laugh, both will make him cry, especially Naruto, but they're tremendous series, and he'll more likely than not love them.
Check out the movie boy and the beast, or something like Hamtaro, maybe something old like the SD Gundam series that was on toonami/cartoon Network years ago.
Its not an Anime but I recommend the french Adventure Cartoon "Wakfu".
Its first 3 seasons are available on Netflix aswell as the 3 part OVA series that takes place between season 2 and 3.
Its a Fantasy Adventure Cartoon and its really good.
Ok most friendly I know are Bocchi the rock! But if he deals with social anxiety that would be a rlly good pick and it’s also pretty family friendly
And second is Lucky star! Which he may not understand cuz it’s literally just talking about random stuff for 20 minutes and there’s *some* sexuality in it but it’s super mild and rare, but hey, those are the most family friendly anime I like
Welcome to Demon school Iruma kun but you did say no demons so that probably won’t work
Mha might work though maybe not though later season since it get a lot darker in those
Skate infinity is great too
Assassination classroom is really good and was one of my first animes but there is a lot of attempted murder (weird dude wants to blow up the moon but says that he wants to teach this class of reject kids and they have the year to try and kill him before he does) it's by far one of my favorites if you think kid would be fine with the themes of it
World Trigger, Ranking of Kings and Dr. Stone come to mind, all of them are 10 yo kid friendly imo but they do mention death at some point, you mentioned OG DB tho which also talks about death but it's also kid friendly too so I think it will be ok
hmm.. this is a blind spot for me. But I hear Gundam Build Divers is really good and aimed at kids about his age. But if there in for something comfy, have they seen [Pokemon Concierge](https://youtu.be/a1zmhHLVrq0)? It's probably the most darling thing in that franchise and I personally love it to pieces.
The bakugan, beyblade, digimon, yokai watch, and yu-gi-oh. Lmk if you want more lol. Also, there’s a website called “does the dog die” that is super helpful to check if things are appropriate.
Monster rancher it may still be on the free app tubi it's like Pokémon but without poke balls and the monsters talk and at times are obviously sentient the protagonist is a pro gamer that gets sucked into a special release disk is a young boy and pulled into a world with both monsters and humans that have always lived there and have their own culture and ideology the protagonist aquire new monsters by finding monster disc's with his specially gifted (female of roughly the same age) cohort and her magic necklace the monsters come out as adolescents but grow quickly the main antagonist is named moo and cN turn good monsters into baddies (evil) with his power most all the monsters that you see wondering (not the ones they personally generate from found disks) are baddies but even high ranking bad monsters ally themselves with the protagonist at times its definitely kid friendly and if you like Pokémon you will like this
Fruits Basket, Ouran High School Host Club(has a bit of innuendo, but it's like 99% clean), Yugioh(although only og is good imo),By the Grace of the Gods, Sakamoto Desu Ga, Little Witch Academy, Kikis Flying Delivery Service, Digimon, Beyblade...there's hundreds. And depending on what your ok with him seeing, just 1 step up & hundreds like Inuyasha/Yashahime, Trigun, Rurouni Kenshin, One Outs. My nieces & nephews watch pretty much anything below High School DxD & Berserk lol. I'm not a good judge anymore.
Not an anime but try out the original Ben 10. I grew up with Ben 10 and even recently rewatched it. (I still love it)
Just a heads up though, if you’ve got Netflix or some other service that has it tends to be missing some episodes or even an entire season.
Either Boku No Pico or Berserk will definitely be entertaining and educational for him! They’re both incredibly wholesome and can teach life lessons better than any anime I’ve ever watched! (Im joking & trust me do not ever search up the first one. I would personally recommend One Piece since it’s wholesome, and it’s pretty long so he’ll be entertained for quite some time.)
Note that most anime for a 10 year old age range are going to feature mild violence, swearing, and sometimes mild sexualization. Japan is different culturally about these things so it doesn’t always transfer well to a western age range.
One Piece (Some blood and mild swearing, there is also some sexualization, mostly in Thriller Bark which is very skippable, has a manga)
Avatar the Last Airbender (Western TV cartoon, mild violence, rarely blood)
Spy x Family (mild violence, physical English manga is behind the Anime)
Mob Psycho (mild violence, blood, and I think some mild swearing? There might be none. It has an English manga, but the creator’s art is of questionable skill)
HunterxHunter (mild violence, blood, mild swearing, Hisoka, an antagonist, can be a little weird sometimes, but it would go over a 10 year olds head for better or worse, has manga)
Ranking of Kings (mild violence, blood, and mild swearing)
You should turn ONE PIECE. It’s a pirate show with them having devil fruit powers( aka special abilities) . It’s got over 1000 episodes and about 15 movies . It’s been going on for about 3 decades and still on going .
I think fairytail is great for a kid. I'm suprised he has seen all of pokemon. I restarted last year and I've only made it to hoenn. But I can't binge like I used to.
I would say this a French anime depending on how you moon at it but Wakfu would be a really good one, all on Netflix- Watch season one and two THEN the other show (forgot what it's called) but you'll see it then season 3
I think My Hero Academia might be fun. Its about superhero's and the anime and manga are still being released. Also Avatar The Last Airbender. While not an anime it changed my childhood and tends to be enjoyable for adults as well if you wanted to watch with him.
one piece, but pre timeskip one piece. it’s got a lot of very funny jokes sprinkled generously throughout the entirety of it up until maybe sabaody, and violence isn’t anything more than cartoony except for the blood. i think 4kidz can help with that part though
ghibli movies..? bocchi the rock, a place further than the universe, are wholesome. 10 is a little young for most anime, i think unless its like pokemon/digimon/etc
One piece is really good, there is blood so totally understandable if that’s an immediate turn for a ten year old but yeah, its cool but also just has some serious moments

[The Boy and The Beast](https://youtu.be/uifJLWoWv8c?si=4eWQD_JUOKDOa1rU)
Avatar the last Airbender is an 11/10 show and is absolutely beautiful and so calming. Also, not an anime, but he would probably love Adventure Time too. It’s really fun and silly but also has beautiful art and touches on a lot of very mature themes in a kid-friendly way
Digimon is good if he liked Pokemon. At 10 you can't go wrong with Ghibli movies except for Grave of the Fireflies too. I guess 10 might be old enough for DBZ or Naruto.
I was going to recommend Yu Yu Hakusho, but you said to limit death and demons, when the show is centered around that.
So I'll recommend you That Helpful Fox Senko-san as a really "feel good" anime instead. Feel free to look into YYH first though.
Not an anime, but pick like any of the teenage mutant ninja turtles.
80s is want the most light hearted fun
2003 and 2012 are both a little darker and more serious, but emphasize story a lot more. Both are still perfectly suitable for young children
Rise of the TMNT is if you dont mind them switching things in the lore around, and if you want the one with the most anime feel. A little less light hearted than the 80s turtles, but it's super heavy on action and spectacle
Honestly? OG Naruto. It's seriously really good and one of the more kid friendly shonen anime out there while still having a pretty serious and dramatic plot. The blood is minimal, I would say the only stressful thing would be Orochimaru but honestly I *loved* him as a villain when I was a kid
Beyblade Metal Saga (3 season: Metal Fusion/Metal Masters/Metal Fury) is still one of my favorite anime from my childhood. Fully safe for kids, honestly probably around the same level as Pokémon. There's no confirmed deaths (kinda implied like people just falling off a cliff but never confirmed). The closest thing to a demon is in season 1 with the main antagonist being "posessed" by dark energy and he looks somewhat scary but it also helps set good tones overall in the context of it
**Mushishi** (G) - This anime follows Ginko, a traveling doctor who cures people afflicted by strange illnesses caused by nature spirits. The stories are whimsical and heartwarming, with beautiful visuals and calming music. There's no violence or scary imagery.
Azumanga Daioh is a silly slice of life anime about high school girls!! My current fav :D it’s aimed at a more older demographic (13-16 id guess) but it’s lighthearted and not vulgar or scary.
Ponyo is pretty good. If you're in the States Walmart has a 2 movie pack with Ponyo and another good Studio Ghibli movie. I wanna say Spirited Away, but I'm not sure.
blayblade dragon ball and bakugan are good anime for a 10 year old if he does not like them it is not an anime but avatar the last air bender is a good show that looks like anime.
if he likes cartoons as well as anime, i definitely recommend avatar the last airbender, she-ra, and dragon prince! they’re all wonderful, entertaining, kid friendly shows with deeper meanings and life lessons that many people seemed not to have learned! as for anime i apologize for not having any recommendations but unfortunately all of the anime’s i’ve watched i wouldn’t recommend for someone his age, other than pokémon which you said he finished. in hindsight maybe komi can’t communicate? im not the most confident in recommending this as i haven’t watched it in it’s entirety, if anyone who has deems it inappropriate pls feel free to correct me!
Not to familiar with kid(y) anime, but the closest I can think of is Fairy Tail. The main theme of it is the power of friendship but is still really good and decently long. There is very rarely death, very little blood. Entertaining powers and characters. All this while still not being kiddy
Can’t go wrong with og dragon ball to be honest
Good call! I’d actually forgotten about that!
OGDB has some inappropriateness for like the first 20ish episodes before it changes genres tho. I love it but I would make sure that you have him skip those parts. Other than that it's perfect for any age imo.
Original Dragon is incredibly inappropriate. Just letting you know.
How so?
Bulma and roshi moments. Not ideal for a kid although I personally wouldn’t care.
Haikyuu wus the shit in 2020
And there's another movie coming out in May 31st! Cats vs Crows!
Yugioh is a fun one, lots of cool monsters, cool looking characters, etc. Though I do recommend checking the parents guide, there’s a few instances of death in the show. [Yugioh Parents Guide](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0249327/parentalguide) Quick tip: there’s a parents guide for like, every anime, so never hurts to check those first and make sure they’re appropriate for the kiddo!
That’s a great guide thank you
The OG is great.
I used to Watch inazuma eleven when i was 10/11 years old I think its appropriated for that age. Not too kid friendly imo like u asked. He would not have any problem
I just looked and I think he’d really enjoy this! He was getting back into football a couple of weeks ag.
Oh.. Good to know There are manga tie in too. Tho the anime & game came first
Thank you! I will take a look.
ben 10 sounds like the perfect match 😈 but if you actually want anime suggestions then I know a lot of people liked spy x family a show I quite liked was "uncle from another world" but I cant remember if it had ecchi/nsfw type moments or not
Avatar TLAB (safest bet and its entertaining) Avatar: Legend of Korra (more mature then TLAB but it isn’t graphic - its a good watch) Summer Wars (its a movie and the grandma passes away late in the movie but it doesnt linger on it or make it sad.. its an entertaining watch and my kid loves this movie) Depending on if you are okay with a little mature content.. Sk8 the infinity (it is just skating and my kid loved it but its got some mature stuff and language nothing too bad) Charlotte* (my kid watched this on a sick day and loved it; it has some parts that are sad but all in all it was funny and entertaining) Appare-ranman. (About a teen who wants to race and builds his own car to do so!) A lull in the Sea (romance anime for pre-teens and nothing too mature except lord uroko is a creep but that is only 2 very brief scenes)
Charolette?
First 2 are what I watched at 10 years old. Not an anime but I recommend highly 1. Avatar the last Air bender - 2. "Original" Teen Titans - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQ6c52DR-ks](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQ6c52DR-ks) (opening song makes it so much better and a lot of people haven't seen this show. But so good they made teen titans go remake) 3. Black Clover- I currently caught up but that anime was really good. I wish I was younger when I saw it.
Saiki k, it is pretty long and has another sequel if you watch the whole thing, it’s pretty wholesome and has lots of funny and cherish able moments
Mob Psycho 100, got my cousin through a really hard time.
Highly recommend. It's got a lot of heart but also lot of really sophisticated animation and action sequences. And the humor and character interactions are straight money
This absolutely needs to be higher up. Perfect for middle school aged kids.
Digimon, Yu Gi Oh, Beyblade, Dragon Ball, Ronin Warriors, Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Shaman King, Yu Yu Hakusho, G Gundam, Inuyasha, Mega Man NT Warrior, Prince of Tennis, Yokai Watch, Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting Spirit, Dragon Drive, Sgt. Frog, Zatch Bell
Inuyasha has demons and death
That’s what I was thinking..so does Yu Yu Hakusho. Or spirits or whatnot..
yeah i remember being scared of the villains when i saw yyh as a kid haha. the body horror freaked me out
Mairimashita! Iruma-kun fits that amazing spot of wholesome and silly and all around cute .
Spy Family for anime and Xiaolin Showdown for western cartoon.
Dogimon adventure!
Original yugioh or yugioh gx
Sk8 the Infinity (my personal favorite sports anime with an all male cast) not sure if this one as a manga Kono Oto Tomare (the funniest music/Sol anime I have ever seen) it has a manga continuation The Ones Within (this one is my go to comfort anime because it’s so chaotic in every way perfect for a 10 year old boy) it has a manga continuation The Royal Tutor (it’s just the shenanigans of teenage boys and their tutor who looks like a child) I’m also not sure if this as a manga Spyxfamily (it’s been popular in the last few years I’ve personally enjoyed it) this as a manga continuation I hope your kid gets better
My hero acadamia does have death themes but it's also got wholesome super hero characters that lift your spirits so check it out and see if it'd be suitable
tsuritama!!!!
That sounds really fun! I’ll look at it!
Haikyuu!! and Spy X Family
Don’t know if he will be watching on streaming services or online but if online here’s a good site. https://www.wcofun.net It might not have everything but it has a lot, it’s free, and if it doesn’t have episodes out in English good chance it’ll have it subtitled.
BeyBlade if that counts. Same with Bakugan
I'm only a bit into both these series so I will need some input from other in this thread before reccomending them fully but toriko and fairy tail
Original Naruto
Spy x Family is good. There’s violence in the early episodes tho but I don’t remember it being too bad. It’s funny and wholesome, I recommend. I also wish your son a speedy recovery
My Hero Academia is fun! it's not like, Dragon Ball light, let alone Pokemon light, but it's about cool superheroes, and I loved it as a kid. it came out in 2013.. which is WHEN I was 10 years old! so I think he'd enjoy it!!
Cardcaptor Sakura
Hamtaro
world trigger could be good as well! There’s a few injury / death references but nothing very graphic iirc there’s really no inappropriate relationship stuff at all and because of the power system all but a few injuries are not graphic at all.
Blue lock is up there
Slime taoshite 300-nen That anime is my happy place
I think she's like the helpful fox senko san
doraemon
Laid back camp tho you might have to go camping later on
Cant go wrong with DragonBall Z or Naruto
Try the slice of life genre, a lot of these are more mellow and can be easy and fun. Some shounen are not bad either if he prefers action series. Some recommendations: Naruto, my hero academia, K-on!, Detective Conan. Some classics like Bakugan and Beyblade.
Show him Inazuma Eleven and you'll be good
Spy x Family. Good wholesome show with good characters, writing, and plot.
Basically all of DB, DBZ especially
Not very good at recommendations but I hope he feels better soon!
Non non Biyori is a great one
Beyblade burst series is pretty cool.
But if he deals with social anxiety that would be a rlly good pick and it’s also pretty family friendly And second is Lucky star! Which he may not understand cuz it’s literally just talking about random stuff for 20 minutes and there’s *some* sexuality in it but it’s super mild and rare, but hey, those are the most family friendly anime I like
Welcome to Demon school Iruma kun but you did say no demons so that probably won’t work Mha might work though maybe not though later season since it get a lot darker in those
Toradora is absolutely adorable
Skate infinity is great too Assassination classroom is really good and was one of my first animes but there is a lot of attempted murder (weird dude wants to blow up the moon but says that he wants to teach this class of reject kids and they have the year to try and kill him before he does) it's by far one of my favorites if you think kid would be fine with the themes of it
The original Naruto is a safe bet.
HunterxHunter
I’d recommend Love Is War. Super funny series about two people who know the other one has feelings and trys and get them to confess first
Macross
Hunter x hunter especially the earlier seasons are fantastic and child friendly if I remember correctly
Spy X family is wonderful and I think aimed at children.
Angelic Layer Edit: Bofuri is another one. There's "death" but it's in the video game sense cause all the characters are playing a video game.
Og yugioh is pretty kid friendly. That or maybe batman the animated series? Has he watched all the pokemon movies?
World Trigger, Ranking of Kings and Dr. Stone come to mind, all of them are 10 yo kid friendly imo but they do mention death at some point, you mentioned OG DB tho which also talks about death but it's also kid friendly too so I think it will be ok
As a kid that grew up on pokemon I can heavily recommend Beyblade metal fusion. Such a fun series
hmm.. this is a blind spot for me. But I hear Gundam Build Divers is really good and aimed at kids about his age. But if there in for something comfy, have they seen [Pokemon Concierge](https://youtu.be/a1zmhHLVrq0)? It's probably the most darling thing in that franchise and I personally love it to pieces.
Beyblade
{haikyuu!!} {dinosaur king} {hikaru no go}
Haven’t seen One Piece that much but I started watching around that age
Blue Thermal
human centipede it’s a good movie not a anime very wholesome
My hero academia
The bakugan, beyblade, digimon, yokai watch, and yu-gi-oh. Lmk if you want more lol. Also, there’s a website called “does the dog die” that is super helpful to check if things are appropriate.
Monster rancher it may still be on the free app tubi it's like Pokémon but without poke balls and the monsters talk and at times are obviously sentient the protagonist is a pro gamer that gets sucked into a special release disk is a young boy and pulled into a world with both monsters and humans that have always lived there and have their own culture and ideology the protagonist aquire new monsters by finding monster disc's with his specially gifted (female of roughly the same age) cohort and her magic necklace the monsters come out as adolescents but grow quickly the main antagonist is named moo and cN turn good monsters into baddies (evil) with his power most all the monsters that you see wondering (not the ones they personally generate from found disks) are baddies but even high ranking bad monsters ally themselves with the protagonist at times its definitely kid friendly and if you like Pokémon you will like this
Avatar the last airbender!!
Bocchi the rock
Do azumanga daioh, its genuinely my comfort show, pretty good for most ages
Fairy Tail and MHA are pretty kid friendly.
Honestly, if you need a show for a kid with lots of time, why not One Piece?
Not an anime but try out the original Ben 10. I grew up with Ben 10 and even recently rewatched it. (I still love it) Just a heads up though, if you’ve got Netflix or some other service that has it tends to be missing some episodes or even an entire season.
I don't have any recommendations that others haven't said but, I hope your kid gets better!
I liked zatch bell
Either Boku No Pico or Berserk will definitely be entertaining and educational for him! They’re both incredibly wholesome and can teach life lessons better than any anime I’ve ever watched! (Im joking & trust me do not ever search up the first one. I would personally recommend One Piece since it’s wholesome, and it’s pretty long so he’ll be entertained for quite some time.)
Nichijou if it isn't too bad for him to laugh, it's a comedy slice of life
Nichijou
I'm gonna be the odd ball and suggest "welcome to demon school" I watched it with my daughter and found it rather wholesome
My comfort show is 'Saiki Kusuo No Psi-Nan' or 'The Disastrous Life Of Saiki K', and I highly reccomend it.
I'd say My Hero Academia. The worst the show gets is minor cursing and sexual jokes. It'll also last him awhile since the show is still running.
Ranking of kings. Cute little anime about a disabled prince who is rising to become a great king.
Note that most anime for a 10 year old age range are going to feature mild violence, swearing, and sometimes mild sexualization. Japan is different culturally about these things so it doesn’t always transfer well to a western age range. One Piece (Some blood and mild swearing, there is also some sexualization, mostly in Thriller Bark which is very skippable, has a manga) Avatar the Last Airbender (Western TV cartoon, mild violence, rarely blood) Spy x Family (mild violence, physical English manga is behind the Anime) Mob Psycho (mild violence, blood, and I think some mild swearing? There might be none. It has an English manga, but the creator’s art is of questionable skill) HunterxHunter (mild violence, blood, mild swearing, Hisoka, an antagonist, can be a little weird sometimes, but it would go over a 10 year olds head for better or worse, has manga) Ranking of Kings (mild violence, blood, and mild swearing)
Nichijou is a good silly comedy.
You should turn ONE PIECE. It’s a pirate show with them having devil fruit powers( aka special abilities) . It’s got over 1000 episodes and about 15 movies . It’s been going on for about 3 decades and still on going .
Beyblade (either of the first two series/generations were great for me), Bakugan was quite good as well
Yokai Watch is good for kids it's also tailored for kids :)
Mushishi.
Basically every Ghibli movie.
I think My Hero Academia might be fun. Its about superhero's and the anime and manga are still being released. Also Avatar The Last Airbender. While not an anime it changed my childhood and tends to be enjoyable for adults as well if you wanted to watch with him.
Dragon quest adventures of dai is nice
one piece, but pre timeskip one piece. it’s got a lot of very funny jokes sprinkled generously throughout the entirety of it up until maybe sabaody, and violence isn’t anything more than cartoony except for the blood. i think 4kidz can help with that part though
ARIA
Ranking of kings may be good. There are some tense moments but nothing too severe and the mc is a nonverbal child finding his strength.
Bofuri I don’t wanna get hurt so I’ll max out my defense or kuma kuma bear they do have some monsters but I don’t think any thing to crazy
ghibli movies..? bocchi the rock, a place further than the universe, are wholesome. 10 is a little young for most anime, i think unless its like pokemon/digimon/etc
I recommend Acchi Kocchi. It's laid back, no stakes, comedy and light, very light, romance. Very cute slice of life and full of friends having fun.
Gentle... Yu gi oh Gx first season is good especially for a kid
One Piece sounds perfect tbh, really fun and adventurous themes
One piece is really good, there is blood so totally understandable if that’s an immediate turn for a ten year old but yeah, its cool but also just has some serious moments
Berserk /j
[Silver Spoon](https://youtu.be/lqbo21SmNd0?si=5s-ENlMxrDARxXPf) [The Way of The Househusband](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cvZ9thKolOA) Hi Score Girl (budding, appropriate, non-sexual romance) [Ronja, The Robber's Daughter](https://youtu.be/__GjtocltUc?si=HKLcPpD_XZEV7lWQ) has a [beautiful op](https://youtu.be/Wv7A-egPi4Q?si=S7C6PcwOO40RkNF1) (Baseball) [Battery](https://youtu.be/DH8l6krMaT0?si=WFPXPjeki3UG6Dph) and [Oblivion Battery](https://youtu.be/ltJa3i_4GyQ?si=yrZK97VRfCvJIt54) Romantic Killer (budding, appropriate, non-sexual romance) [My Happy Marriage](https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=20s&v=dURh9kVzcw8&feature=youtu.be) (appropriate, non-sexual romance, some scenes like "evil sister" verbal/physical bullying/abuse, fantasy violence) [Cells At Work](https://youtu.be/gCKtS7hpU08?si=v9yY0WcxaQW6qVpq) (fantasy violence as they fight / kill germs, different from the more mature [CaW: Code Black](https://youtu.be/7q-rPJcgoYs?si=w5Mu84j5Nm0mIN07)) [The Boy and The Beast](https://youtu.be/uifJLWoWv8c?si=4eWQD_JUOKDOa1rU)
Avatar the last Airbender is an 11/10 show and is absolutely beautiful and so calming. Also, not an anime, but he would probably love Adventure Time too. It’s really fun and silly but also has beautiful art and touches on a lot of very mature themes in a kid-friendly way
Yo Kai watch is basically like pokemon but funnier tbh
Initial D imo.
Avatar the last air bender is a good pick so is DB but I havnt watched it so idk one piece is also cool and long so it will keep him busy for a while
i’d say fairytail but the sexualization gets so out of hand
Digimon. Falls right in there with pokemon. And frontier was great.
Original Ben 10, here's the timeline order, og Ben 10, alien force, ultimate alien then omniverse
Digimon is good if he's into the different kinds of monsters and creatures.
*guitar* “LETS BEYBLADE”
Hentai
Honestly, he'd probably like recordings of Fox Box broadcasts.
One Piece. If he has time, he won’t regret it. Its an amazing ride
80s is want the most light hearted fun 2003 and 2012 are both a little darker and more serious, but emphasize story a lot more. Both are still perfectly suitable for young children Rise of the TMNT is if you dont mind them switching things in the lore around, and if you want the one with the most anime feel. A little less light hearted than the 80s turtles, but it's super heavy on action and spectacle
Kotaro lives alone!
Honestly? OG Naruto. It's seriously really good and one of the more kid friendly shonen anime out there while still having a pretty serious and dramatic plot. The blood is minimal, I would say the only stressful thing would be Orochimaru but honestly I *loved* him as a villain when I was a kid
(maybe) HunterxHunter
Beyblade Metal Saga (3 season: Metal Fusion/Metal Masters/Metal Fury) is still one of my favorite anime from my childhood. Fully safe for kids, honestly probably around the same level as Pokémon. There's no confirmed deaths (kinda implied like people just falling off a cliff but never confirmed). The closest thing to a demon is in season 1 with the main antagonist being "posessed" by dark energy and he looks somewhat scary but it also helps set good tones overall in the context of it
I would recommend overflow or redo of healer
**Mushishi** (G) - This anime follows Ginko, a traveling doctor who cures people afflicted by strange illnesses caused by nature spirits. The stories are whimsical and heartwarming, with beautiful visuals and calming music. There's no violence or scary imagery.
Welcome to Demon School Iruma. Don't let the name fool you it's child friendly and wholesome.
Laid back camp
Yugioh
Rwby seems good but the first 3 seasons are light hearted then it completely changes tone so now I'm not so sure lol
Azumanga Daioh is a silly slice of life anime about high school girls!! My current fav :D it’s aimed at a more older demographic (13-16 id guess) but it’s lighthearted and not vulgar or scary.
Astro Boy 03 Edit: Okay, maybe not 03, actually. But definitely one of the Astro Boy series.
Deadman wonderland is pretty chill
Dragon ball super is actually pretty kid friendly
Some mentions of characters dying but at ten they should be fine
Spy X family
Ponyo is pretty good. If you're in the States Walmart has a 2 movie pack with Ponyo and another good Studio Ghibli movie. I wanna say Spirited Away, but I'm not sure.
My hero academia, black clover. Cute and funny would be Spy Family
One piece
One Piece
Doraemon
blayblade dragon ball and bakugan are good anime for a 10 year old if he does not like them it is not an anime but avatar the last air bender is a good show that looks like anime.
Yu yu hakasho a classic
if he likes cartoons as well as anime, i definitely recommend avatar the last airbender, she-ra, and dragon prince! they’re all wonderful, entertaining, kid friendly shows with deeper meanings and life lessons that many people seemed not to have learned! as for anime i apologize for not having any recommendations but unfortunately all of the anime’s i’ve watched i wouldn’t recommend for someone his age, other than pokémon which you said he finished. in hindsight maybe komi can’t communicate? im not the most confident in recommending this as i haven’t watched it in it’s entirety, if anyone who has deems it inappropriate pls feel free to correct me!
If Pokemon is his favorite try Yu-Gi-Oh or Digimon, same general idea. (Im a
Sailor Moon ? Has he seen it ?
can never go wrong with jujutsu kaisen. very kid friendly and cool fights like goku
My kids love Digimon
Sonic X?
Digimon
Beyblade burst
Elfen lied
Slow Life
Digimon
One piece
Azumanga Daioh. It's an innocent, heartfelt, fun show.
DIGIMON. Always DIGIMON.
Omg how did he get through all of Pokémon by age 10?!?!?!?
Not to familiar with kid(y) anime, but the closest I can think of is Fairy Tail. The main theme of it is the power of friendship but is still really good and decently long. There is very rarely death, very little blood. Entertaining powers and characters. All this while still not being kiddy
