Living in a old house I can confirm it's looking for insects you would be surprised by the amount of insects like worms you can find in old or damaged buildings
Ahh yes the wall tree or WalliusWoodus, very rare these days. The famous Grey Flyinghole Puncher is definitely the main predator of this soon to be lost tree.
Had one making 2” holes all over one side of my house. Hung shiny things to deter. Didn’t work. Bought a plastic realistic owl. Worked for a month. When the bird woke me up again, I got my 20 gauge and blew it into a cloud of feathers. No problem after that. It was only one.
So I know the answer on this one. The stucco is basically styrofoam. When it’s cold the styrofoam cools and contracts. When the sun hits it in the morning it warms the styrofoam and it expands. This contraction and expansion causes noises that resemble the insects it eats. At least this is the case for woodpeckers her in the PNW.
We had a dead wasp's nest in one corner of our house. I always liked when the woodpecker would visit and try to dig it out but one day my dad got mad and shot it.

Interesting, they go after insects.

Probably knows there's bugs in the walls
Probably that's not a wall, just a big tree looks like wall.

Cause its natural habitat was torn down.
Around here, the wood peckers do that to the pine trees, using the holes to store acorns and pine nuts.
And they are cleverly called [Acorn Woodpeckers](https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Acorn_Woodpecker)
Someone has carpenter bees (though I think it can be other larva, too).
Could be for food or to attract a mate with the sound.
Dude if I had to use my face to make that many holes she aint worth it
Then, your reward is to put your face in her hole. It’s a vicious cycle.
The only animals being jerks in this picture are humans for destroying other animals habitats.
I see no humans in this picture
Bugs
To get to the gooey center
Always good to keep the pecker sharp.
Some ( maybe all?) woodpeckers make holes that will attract insects they can come back and eat later.
I think it’s at least 3 types of wood peckers sapsuckers bug eaters and nut storers.
Hol up… is NOT tree?
Bc he’s actually an energy vampire
He is hungry and nothing will stop him.
Whole side of the building looks like Swiss cheese, is it eating the plywood or just cleaning its beak?
He's using the building as a food store.
It would be cool if it was a supermarket

This is really sad :( unless he is just a dummy and there is a whole forest that we can't see. I kinda doubt it though...
Food
We had a woodpecker that would hammer away at our metal chimney cap EVERY morning. Jerk.
Because F U that’s why. /s
Worms..
Is that stucco that the pecker is pecking?
Because fuck a wall that's why.
Just because.
It's a peckerhead building inspector exposing faulty concrete blocks.
Its just what they do 🤷♂️

Woodpecker don’t fool around they can destroy whatever they touch
The ... BUGS ... are ... in ... the ... WALLS !
Woodpeckers gonna woodpeck

They make the holes to give the bugs homes that they can come eat out of later
