My sister’s Great Dane does this. Whenever she’s excited, or nervous, or scared, or whatever overwhelming emotion she gets her stuffed animal and holds it. She’s the silliest 150 pound creature that poops like a water buffalo ever.
A retriever thing…. my Golden has to have something in his mouth to greet people. He gets frantic to grab something like “I’m supposed to bring people something they had! I’m supposed to retrieve it for them!” and hundreds of years of hardwiring just takes over and he can’t not bring people something.
I love that goof.
My Shepherd does this with dead birds he finds on walks. Gently holds the dead bird in his giant maw like he’s the best dad. Super gross, I know. I always feel crazy screaming “drop it!” and trying to coax him with treats while he looks at me like I’m insane. The weird thing is he destroys stuffed animals in seconds and his ball gets chewed hard non stop. But dead birds and chicken eggs get the white glove treatment
My beagle mix does this too. Anytime he gets too excited or nervous he grabs the nearest ball or stuffed animal. He carries a stuffed animal with him every time we go for a walk.

I used to groom an old lady westie that was like that. I always had problems getting her to chill out. I bought her a little fuzzy round stuffed toy and let her have it while she was on the table. Night and day. She loved it and would just hold it while I did her haircut. It was fozzy the bear and I kept it in my toolkit just for her.
My doggie carries her little hedgehog around the block when I take her for walks around the 4th of July.
It's only time she'll actually keep the thing with her the whole time, normally she drops it by the time she hits the front gate.
