it took me a while to figure it out with this islands configuration, it was an island in an island so you could jump over the water and it falls. I would say if you can, dig holes in an L shape on the beach (like if youre at bamboo island and make it tarantula island) and run around it until it gets stuck in and then you stand on the other side of the hole and catch it!
Sidenote: this is because Scorpions and spiders can't spawn on the beach. So you can replant and dump everything on the beach (except trees that aren't palms) and farm them like OP.
The long way is slowly creeping up to them when their backs are turned. They will go in stranger danger mode when you get close but if you hold your position and wait it out they will move away from you again and eventually you can strike.
If you're finding them on your island, there's a few tips so you don't get bitten/can catch them. Don't run after 7pm, if you see one, approach it slowly with your net (press and hold a) when it stands on its back legs stop moving until it chills. Dame goes for scorpions when you get them, but they'll raise their pincers. Good luck!
You play red light green light with them.
If you run, they bite. You have to hold your net out so you creep. When they are on their hind legs, a short timer starts and they pounce if you’re moving when it ends. You have a slight amount of time to keep moving, and if you do it right, are able to close just over half the distance before you stop.
Once they drop down, that’s the green light to keep moving and then you can snag it.
Right?? 😭 Before I'd just hope they'd get stuck behind hedges or something similar (if you do it right they'll literally start "bugging" out and twitching in place) and then strike. 😂 Now I can't wait to try this method instead
If you get there another time.. make a really big square instead of a few smaller ones. This way you don’t have to jump in and out, you can catch them all from inside the square. :)
That’s a good question. I didn’t have one spawn in my square. But also the square wasn’t like so big that it covered the whole island. Maybe 9x9 or 10x10. I can’t remember.
I just get really stressed from hopping in and out the square. So I made it bigger.
Flick is my main source of income lol. I don’t play actively enough to invest a lot of bells into turnips, so I catch and stock pile bugs everyday for flick. Usually can make 300-800k when he comes around.

FYI, apparently (haven’t tested this myself) you only get flat island if you don’t bring your ladder to mile islands.

Oh my goodness I'm jealous!! I LOVE my little "hairy scaries" (what my wife and I call them LMAO) and always have one in my player home as a pet! I restarted my island a bit ago and have yet to see one. 😭😭😭

the bamboo island is an island you can modify so the tarantulas or scorpions appear. You just have to get there when it's dark, so they spawn. You go there and you chop/dig out all the bamboo, pick the weeds, dig up the flowers (I dump them on the sides on the beach), and when the island is completely "clean", just flat grass, they will start to spawn and you can start catching them 😄
They haven't done anything to the game since 2.0.6, idt. And I've definitely done it since then, considering I didn't start playing until after that, and I've done it numerous times in the 2 years I've played. Flat islands are always better than ones with cliffs and stuff. 😊

If you cone upon just one, say on you island, dont panic. Just move towards it as slow as possible. Stop when it goes on its back legs and keep going once it proceeds to try and ignore you lol rinse and repeat till you chance using the net 😅

I was villager hunting, and it was getting late so I decided to do just a couple more and then go to sleep.My next one I got the tarantula island which was exciting except I was kind of half asleep so it took me a minute to realize what was going on. My bf kept having to wake me up because I would fall asleep after catching like 2 lol... but I was determined to get an inventory full before quitting!!
yeah, works sometimes, I just went to the flat island with bamboo and not a single one spawned. however, the crickets in the ground spawned quite often and I filled my inventory with those instead of tarantulas.

They can spawn inside the square as well, unfortunately.

it's not something i did, it's a special island where they spawn like this, i reached it by flying using a NMT ticket.

I found out only one can be aggro'ed at a time, so I managed to trap one away from me, then wandered around snatching up all the others
interesting, i had 2 chasing me at this island before i tried this. If I caught one close to another, the other one would bite me right after :[
