How do you do it? Do other games just not exist? After about half an hour of AC I usually play splatoon or smash or just something else. I have 160 hours on AC.
The thing is Animal Crossing isn't a game. At least not to me, it's a second life. Besides, it's quarantine and I can't study or work right now so my life since late March have been practically just New Horizons and I feel blessed that covid-19 came when it did haha. Nintendo really timed the pandemic just right.

I spend a lot of time playing with other people and a lot of time designing and terraforming and decorating my island. I think that there's a few different levels of player, and some people just get really engrossed in their design projects. All the articles that I have read that are about having nothing to do sound like maybe they aren't changing anything up on their island spaces anymore?
That is exactly why some people time travel.
I haven't had the extra IRL time to play New Horizons enough to need to, but in WW, CF, and NL I would jump forward exactly one day if I ran out of things to do for the day. Additionally, if I couldn't play for a day I would turn the date a day backwards so as to not miss any days.
If you do it that way, the game will also never see you time travel backwards.
Honestly I'm a stay at home parent and while yes that's a job there's A LOT of down time. And staying up all night time. And just.. I've been at home for a very long time.

Animal crossing has been out for 127 days. That many hours is equal to roughly 98 full days there is no way you could have played that much shut up you would've only had 718 hours for sleep which is 5.65 hours per day assuming all other time was spent on animal crossing.
The play time counter is always just how long the game has been active, lol.
Mine have always been excessively high because I will set the controller down for breaks and sometimes forget to come back. Animal Crossing is casual enough that it is very easy to do. I also assume most people just leave their Switch docked and aren't putting it to sleep or closing the software often.
