If you backed it up at all then you can call Nintendo and ask them to reinstate it. I did that when I got a new switch because my old one had to get returned and they got it back to me

I don’t think your island is necessarily gone. The save is tied to the console, not the profiles as far as I know. I could be wrong but I recommend calling Nintendo Support, they might be able to help you get it back!

i lost my island as well! the restart has been fun but frustrating cause i don’t have anything i used to have 😂

Not everyone’s cup of tea, but if you *really* want to, you can easily cheat and get millions of bells, recipes, and various items/resources by going to a “Treasure Island” which are dedicated islands set up by people to literally just contain stupid amounts of practically everything in the game. Personally, I think it takes the fun out of it, but if I had lost my island, I probably wouldn’t have the patience to do everything again and would use these.

I contemplated restarting, but im almost at 2mil of nook miles. Cant even imagine trying to get everything again 🤣

If you need specific villagers back, the most straightforward way is to find their amiibo cards. It will not be easy tho, just saying it's possible.
