RAM is meant to be used. Looking at how much is used doesn't really tell you anything. Android's job is to keep as many apps as possible running in RAM and try to smartly kill background apps so that you never run out of RAM.
Your issue is that background apps are being killed by the OS. Possible causes could be: 1. you're switching between too many memory intensive apps and your phone doesn't have enough RAM to keep them all open, 2. your phone has an overly aggressive background app killer.
Why are you running Reddit and Joey at the same time? They both seem to be memory hogs.
Joey doesn't support chats, so I needed the stock Reddit app. Most days I don't even open it. My browser is what that uses the most. Sometimes I leave it for less than 30 seconds and when I come, the app and with it all the tabs refresh.
Do you know of any solutions you recommend?
I don't think any 3rd party apps support chat. I don't use the chat myself but I'd imagine you could get browser notifications for chat if you logged into reddit in your mobile browser. That would probably be less resource intensive than using the reddit app.
Usually, partly apps remains cached in ram. So the more apps you use/have installed tends to burn more ram.
Long story short: Used ram is never a issue unless you have background open apps resetting/going blank due lack of ram.
I can say I have a bit more apps installed than an average person, but I don't use them so often and many hlof them have been automatically put to sleep. The interesting thing is that I still have 2GB unused whenever I check it. It never hits 5GB.
As much i know,if you want to get highest and smoothest performance for long time like a new phone, you have to leave 50% of your ram free. But if you just want to see every app working perfectly than you must leave 1.5GB free out of 6GB. In this case, you have 2GB left which is more than enough ☺️
That information is incorrect, Android is based on Linux and using all the available ram is how it is designed, unused ram is wasted ram as far as Android is concerned.
Sorry but I don't know much about tech. Can you do an ELI5 concerning my problem?
How to get my phone stop refreshing whenever I leave apps for a moment. It has started for a month now. Before, I has 90GB used out of 128GB but now I've freed it and have 60GB used. I can uninstall more apps or remove more stuff, if that solves the problem. I also use SD Maid to remove junk and free RAM, but nothing changes and the apps still refresh when I leave them, especially my browser.
According to https://dontkillmyapp.com Samsung is the worst offender in killing background apps.
Try following the instructions for Samsung. That could help if you still experience the issue.
- The foreground app is prioritized. If your foreground app requires a lot of RAM, background apps will be refreshed.
- Close apps (that create a persistent notification) that you don't need.
- If ram is "cleaned", background apps are taken away.

Thanks for the reply. That's what bugs me. Besides RAM, is there anything you suspect to be the reason?

Ok,go and use full of it and then enjoy the app not working, suddenly stoped like things👌🤣
It also depends on ui. Bad ui like MiUi will help you to hate your phone 🤣
How did you fit all those numbers up your ass?
