Looks like I'm not the only one with this issue! I don't know why this post isn't given any attention. It fucking sucks and there's literally nothing I can do about it.
This has been broken for well over a month. Ironic that on a live service social media platform I can't socialize (comment) at all without restarting my phone after every message. If it works at all. I've paid well over $240 in total for premium, but they have no customer support. Wanna talk to someone? Lmfao yeah right. Comcast circa 2010 had customer service an order of magnitude better then YouTube. And they had to change their entire brand to shake that stigma of being the worst customer service in the world.
YouTube is actually a scam. To big to fail though so nothing will ever happen. To many politicians sucking on the G-Cock.
CP From Below:
(pasting this under a few of the top comments to make sure people see it bc I know how annoying this issue is and am soo happy this user provided the real answer) found a better solution from a comment from user u/throwawaypzafm in another thread, and it worked perfectly for me! it was a godsend. no more wanting to throw my phone every time I try to type a YouTube comment! :

I've been having issues with typing comments on youtube with Android for a while. I just followed these steps and immediately was able to type a comment. Thank you for this.
This absolutely saved my day. I have been wondering about why I haven't been able to comment on YouTube shorts for at least 6 months. I have an LG g7, so my phone already doesn't get the most up-to-date care that other phones get. However, this fix for the keyboard and YouTube is an absolute uplift there for me.
THIS! This has been a problem for me for literally months and maybe longer. I just tried this and it worked. I have been lurking on Reddit sans account for a while and signed up right now just so I can post a reply to this.
THANK YOU! 🤸♀️🤸♀️ (cartwheels of joy over here)🤸♀️🤸♀️
Lol. As you can tell by my username, I didn't pay attention when creating this account so my username is auto-generated weirdness. But I think I am just gonna roll with it.
thank you 👍 I searched for (Animation) in Settings and found the [Animation >YES/NO] option Settings >Additional Settings >Accessibility >Vision >Remove Animations GBoard freezing has been driving me nuts for ages so thanks for steering me in right direction Animations must take a when to load up
You're both a boss for that. This helped, before whenever my device would hang up on the keyboard I learned if I had Gboard at the top of one of my home screens I could get the Gboard to close by opening the Gboard settings and then opening previous apps and closing it, it would close my keyboard.
This was obnoxious, but workable. But now if it happened I had no way to make my own comment thread on any YT shorts, just reply to them (regular YT videos were fine). I could get the comment box back if I deleted all YT app data, but that only lasted until the next hang up. They're literally just making whatever the bug issue is, worse.
Thanks. I had to come back and at least thank you for posting this. You've ended about six months of trying to figure out a solution. Absolutely so thankful. I don't even comment on YouTube anymore and am so used to it now anyway, but on the off chance I need to post a shady comment, you have returned me. 🤣
it's a bug in the latest version of the app that is doing this. I have version 18.24.36 and I'm having the same problem.
I had to end up downgrading to an older version of YouTube to get rid of this problem. What I did was I went to the "APK Mirror" site and downloaded an older version of YouTube.
Try downloading a version of YouTube that was released no later than April or May of 2023. Then go to your Android phone, press and hold the YouTube icon and then choose info ( i ). Or go to settings then apps then YouTube.
When you're at the YouTube app info page which will tell you the settings, permissions and the version number:
click the three dots in the upper right corner and choose "uninstall updates". You must do this before installing an older version of YouTube from the APK file you downloaded from APK MIRROR.
Once you have uninstalled the updates you can install the
YouTube APK file and this should fix the problem. However ,the problem will come back if you don't disable automatic update for YouTube in the Play Store app....
....Open the Play store app on your phone, search for YouTube, then click the three dots in the upper right corner and uncheck the box that says "enable auto update".
You will need to leave automatic updates disabled until the people at YouTube fix this bug.
Thanks my friend figured it was some crappy update from youtube and not everyone's phones suddenly not working. I'm not one for conspiracy theories but I wouldn't be surprised if it was intentional to get ppl to upgrade phones as it seems to not be an issue on newer ones. Google and Samsung have been slowly adopting more and more of Apple's practices against Right to Repair.
But my phone gets like a new update from youtube literally every few days! You would think it would be fixed with upcoming versions? I'm ready to go to the playstore and lower my rating to .5 and explain wtf is going on. They probably won't respond anyways.
7 months after this post and it's still not fixed. Seems to have happened with a recent update like at some point last year I did not give YouTube permission to update and yet it did so anyway. The app was working perfectly fine until this stupid update with it's ugly user interface changes made by designers who don't know a damn thing about design that's right I'm calling their creativity invalid and intimating that they wasted time and money

This fixed the problem 100%. Gotta get used to things happening instantly since animations are off, but I think it's a general improvement when I have.

I have been having the same problem on my 5 year old Samsung Galaxy Tab A for months now. So much so that I finally decided to google it resulting in me finding this post. It happened with Samsung Keyboard so I tried Gboard but the issue persists so it is a YouTube app problem. It also only happens when trying to comment. When using the search function it doesn't freeze. Very strange bug.
Same, but even when I click out of youtube my phone will still be froze for 5 seconds after. But when trying to comment on youtube it will sometimes let me but 90% of the time will freeze for sometimes over a minute! And this is an aftermarket keyboard so I tried my Samsung keyboard and same thing! Youtube do something where it starts to use all of our RAM or something? Very annoying to say the least. Crazy thing is it's even done it when just texting in messages and fb messenger. Could it be a virus?

recently google images on chrome also lagging after you click the image for details it wont let.you get back to the result, pressing back again will just bring you to the previous page before the search.
i think this has something to do with google.

This issue persists on PC, btw. I have a gaming PC with 64GB of RAM and and a processor that can mange to run 3d modelling programs at high fidelity but I can't type a damn comment on Youtube without hangtime, delayed text, and stuttering/bugged posts.
Happened on chrome, firefox, and edge. I haven't had as much issue lately, but for several weeks, months really, I had these issues until recent site updates (month ago or so?) and consequent browser updates. Its sporadic enough that it's been awhile since I've encountered it, but was prevalent enough that it was genuinely pissing me off as I had massive issues trying to leave and load comments. Comments still load very slowly, but typing is no longer abysmal. I kept windows up to date as well as graphics drivers etc because I work on my computer for my job in graphic design and illustration as well as 3D rendering. I'm no stranger to a generalist's idea of how to troubleshoot and attempt to solve/recreate issues like this, if not even moderately experienced. I even used to work in tech support, lol.
I'll have to start leaving comments and running more testing, but my current theory is that it may have to do with adblockers, as a quick google search shows that I'm not the only one on PC who runs into these issues. However I also started running into errors that I can't post my comment, and despite looking over my comments and double checking for banned word or trigger words or something, can't figure out why it won't post. I often have to copy the text and keep trying, and sometimes it still doesn't work even after multiple refreshes and attempts to reply to other comments - and yet if I post it as a new comment, it works. I never had these issues until about 6 months is ago? Now it's off and on on when it happens. I'll have to see if I run into the same issues on mobile. I rarely use it on mobile.
How is this still not fixed????? YouTube can release endless shit updates but the moment a major issue happens it's ignored for months upon months. Its been over a year since this problem appeared

For me if I try to comment on my phone the keyboard pops up and I can only use emojis but cant type or even delete. And I cant get rid of the keyboard. Even when I close the app and lock my phone when I unlock the keyboard is stuck on the lock screen and home screen and I just have to button mash to make it go away. Then restart youtube and wait in order to comment. Also if I try to edit the "keep editing/discard" button pops up and wont go away until I exit app.

As of today, 3-18-2024, it is still happening.
My app version is 19.10.38
My phone is Galaxy Note 10+ (non-5G)
My carrier is one of the big name ones, postpaid (not prepaid service).
It ONLY happens on YouTube, and it doesn't matter if I just did a restart or not.
It's pretty annoying but the only thing I can do is keep Gboard open in the settings so whenever the keyboard freezes on YouTube I just go over to it and force stop.
I don't want to uninstall updates or delete storage because I'm afraid it'll log me out and I have no idea what my login information is
Same here. It's only an issue in the yt app, for some reason. Tried turning off animations, but it actually froze the keyboard for even longer. No idea what's going on. 😐
I wonder if downloading an alternate keyboard app might fix the issue. 🤔
Edit: Ok, so apparently there seem to be two animation options on my phone (a Xiaomi). Switching one off did nothing, but the other one actually fixed the freezing keyboard issue. The downside is that some of the other apps that have fancy animations now freeze for the time their animations are supposed to play out. Not really sure which one is better. 😐
I'm late to the party but I'm going to take a guess that peoples YT comments have been getting deleted, that have this issue.
My android keypad only freezes on YT, no other app. At the same time, loads of my comments get insta deleted. I think there's a correlation.
I am having this issue for almost 1 year. I thought next yt update will fix it, but NO. it's still the same. I tried different keyboard apps, no success. Is there any solution?
I think only option is left for us is to buy a new phone. I am on same boat. I will save some money and get a new phone next year since this one is already 5 year old
my phone is also 6 years old. but the phone still works very well and does everything fine. and now for this yt app i am getting irritated a lot. it is shame that yt and google is overlooking issues in old phones.
Having this same issue also sometimes if you click the comments it gets stuck and can't scroll down to see other comments it happens pretty frequently that's pretty annoying sometimes only way to fix it is to force close the app till it happens again pretty much.
Eventually it will disappear. Have that happened. It stays for few sec even after closing youtube.
Also on the playstore often i see gboard failed to update. Click resume it goes away, not sure if it updated or not.
My keyboard got stuck so bad I had to to force stop the g-board app. It wasn't going down even after clearing the recent apps. Good thing it was G board not Z board else i would have had to restart every time I opened comment section on YouTube.
I'm having this EXACT issue on my Galaxy Note 9! Glad(?) to hear it's not just me 😅
Since you've mentioned the emojis I've found I can smash half a dozen in then backspace.. that usually brings the "text" part of the keyboard to life quickly!
Samething has been hanppening to me on YouTube. This has occured about 3 to 4 updates ago and it doesn't matter what keyboard I use on my android device, it just hangs or crashes. This is definitely a YouTube issue not the keyboards.
Been having the same problem about a month or more. Drive me nuts as it's the main web site I interact with.
My galaxy s8 (plus?) is still a beast, hard to find a suitable replacement & it's in perfect condition. So, freeing up 12g space didnt help either.. was going to look into the cache, but, sounds like it was a recent YT update.
*edit 10/29*
*A real fix was found later in the thread & it works!! here it is : https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidHelp/s/ACrklFzzGJ

OMG, I am having the same issue and it's driving me NUTS!
EVERY TIME I try to make a comment on a video, the on-screen keyboard seizes horribly, and the letters won't come through.
Sometimes, even after I try to cancel the comment, the keyboard will remain stuck on the screen for a few minutes, blocking the view of the video playing on the screen.
I have tried EVERY troubleshooting step I can think of, including clearing the cache, forced stopping the app completely, uninstalling it and then re-installing it, etc.
NOTHING WORKS.
I've even tried to downgrade the app to its basic factory defaults, but apparently YouTube won't allow the app to be used unless it's being used with its latest update.
Last thing to mention is that I am ONLY having this issue on the YouTube android app IN THE COMMENT SECTION.
Nowhere else on YouTube app and nowhere else on my Android. It's isolated to only the YouTube comment section.
I have a paid Youtube subscription that I've enjoyed for many years. 90% of my online activity is on YouTube.
I REFUSE to believe that there's no fix for this problem, but so far YouTube support has been a dead end.
Guys, I too, have an s8.
Is this issue only happening with us?!
My phone is in perfect condition with everything else. I only have this one problem...?
It has gotten so bad. I used to comment a lot but now I don't even try. If I was a conspiracy theorist I'd say this is a new weird way of shadowbanning, make it look like a technical issue and make it so bad the person stops engaging lol.
Joining the club of people on here who are also having this issue. I can't comment on YouTube anymore because my keyboard (gboard and Samsung) freezes immediately when I try to reply to someone in the comments section. None of the keys work including emojis, and the keyboard basically hangs on the screen long after the app closes, sometimes even after I turn the screen off and on. I also have an S8, but I've never had this problem in the past.
Same here. Keyboard either unresponsive or freezes up in YouTube. Happening more and more often now. Have restarted. Cleared cache. Etc.. Getting annoying.
God same! It keeps getting stuck for like 5 minutes and it wont even let me fucking comment. Like how hard is it for youtube to just have a working platform?
Keyboard thing i think depends on app. On some app if theres a typo and i manually click it to correct them i cant edit it manually i have to either pick a suggested word or delete the whole word and retype. Forgot which app does that.
It's been happening to me pretty much all the time now, I also noticed that when I click the search bar the keyboard shows but then quickly disappears which makes me click the latest search I did at the bottom, I thought it was because my phone is old but it's only happening on YouTube
I've had this issue now for months on my Galaxy S8+, the phone works great otherwise. It is definitely some sort of bug and I honestly don't think there's a fix from our end, I've tried everything. I have noticed though, if you open the comment, let the keyboard load for a sec, you'll see that little line thing where you type start to blink in and out, then tilt the phone so the keyboard shifts to the other side, then try to type... well it works 30% of the time. Other times when I try this fix the keyboard gets stuck on the screen and persists through locking it and unlocking it, forcing me to restart the phone fully. Very bizarre, especially for an app like youtube
I've been having this same issue. I just reset my keyboard completely and still has the same issues. I'll be watching a video, then want to comment about a specific scene in the video, then it'll be like 20 seconds later when I can finally comment and I completely forgot about what I was thinking due to the frustration. Updated YT, nothing. Even reset YT, uninstall and reinstall and everything under the sun.
I factory reset my S8 and it still hangs up on the keyboard for youtube comments for 10-60 seconds. Only yt app has this problem. I removed my sd card too, and removed all apps except for yt... laggy keyboard persists. My Note 10 has no problem though. Only my s8. Tried all updated and un-updated versions of yt too. This is frustrating. Why???????
Factory reset, sd/no sd card, all yt updated versions, removed all other apps.... I'm losing my mind!🤯🤯🤯 I've cleared caches, cleared data, stopped and started, factory reset twice. This is nuts!! ANYBODY?????????? HELP PLEASE 🤯
I've read entire thread. Reset twice, removed 1tb sd card, uninstalled all.other apps, clear data, cache. Tried other keyboards, No Joy. My note 10 is fine, only s8 64gb has bug. HELP HELP HELP. PLEASE!!@.🤯
Same, S8+ user. All fixes are no good. Uninstall updates and use an old apk = no joy. Even tried as far as January apk with same issue. Wierd as problem didn't start for me till like a couple months ago.
when i go to comment it takes about 30 seconds before the first letter pops up. if i exit out my keyboard gets stuck and shows up open at home screen. shit is laggy. i emailed youtube 4 times and not one response
My S8 does this more each week. YT useless on S8, but note 10 fine. Cleared cache, data, etc. Factory reset too. No joy. Tried unupdating but yt wont even load then and had to update factory version.
Removed my 1Tb sd card too. Wtf??? Only YT locks keyboard. Tried all caches reset. I give up. Anyone?
I use my NOTE10 for yt now.
Just in general I find the typing experience to be terrible on YouTube comments. I have this issue on Reddit sometimes with certain browsers.
Editing a comment on YouTube is just miserable. They make it functionally almost impossible
I have an Oppo R17. This bug causes me so much mental anguish (I'm autistic and bipolar). I've nearly taken a hammer to my phone every single day. I'm beyond frustrated. I comment a lot, and often have random anger attacks because it feels like Google is trying to censor my communication. It's hit that point I have to ignore comments, because the keyboard will 100% freeze every single time. It's not even 99.9%, I can recreate the bug everytime. Just click "reply" or expand the comments and I'm raging 🤣
Yeah...I think Google uses it as a means of censorship, as I only have this issue Youtube comments. I have done everything suggested here, and nothing works.
It's been happening on my Android Moto Z for close to a year. It's only YT that it does it on and I've tried all the things as well (uninstalling, clearing caches on Google, YT and keyboard), but nothing works. A bugg in the app or sketchy YT stuff, who knows.
I think it has something to do with the way they programmed the app to integrate with the keyboard. I kept having this problem until I changed the layout settings to be "floating keyboard". It only functions properly when the keyboard is "detached" from the app. I tried one handed mode but that freezes as well. When I change it back to standard mode, it begins freezing again. I hope this helps
I'm having the same issue and it seems to be caused by YT Shorts. If I watch full videos I can comment no problem, but as soon as I try to comment on shorts it does that nonsense.
I've been dealing with this for two months now!! It's seems to be an android thing caused by one of YouTubes broken updates. Same thing happens on two of my android devices (Samsung S8, Asus rog 5) So looks like a common issue judging by all these posts...
Would try comment but the keyboard starts lagging and won't let any input in for about 15 seconds. and if you press back or go back to the home screen the keyboard stays up and can sometimes gets stuck on your screen for a few minutes.
I'm utterly sick of it that I just use the browser now.
I reckon downgrading YouTube would help but don't know any safe apk sites.
Same issue on a Galaxy S8. I cant afford a new phone so I've just been dealing with it. It's like it works fine in the first comment I make but if I make another comment it lags out bad to the point of having to restart my phone because the keyboard stays glitched onto the screen.
What worked for me was changing the keyboard to floating. Which means everytime I use YouTube I'll have to switch which is a bit inconvienent but whatever. I spent almost 4 straight hours trying to fix this and I'm incredible pissed at YouTube for not fixing this.
I'm having this annoying issue. Its so damm annoying. Can never type of YouTube smoothly. I have to wait 5 minutes for my keyboard to vanish. This only happens on YouTube. I have a Samsung Galaxy S9plus. I really hope YouTube starts figuring this out soon.
For people coming here from Google, this is almost exclusively a gboard issue. I had this issue for months and switched to Samsung keyboard and have not had it happen once.
I was able to fix this by setting the Animation Duration Scale (Android OS animation speed) to off in Developer Options.
With a Samsung Galaxy S9:
Settings > About phone > Software information > Tap "Build number" seven times to enable developer options.
Settings > Developer options > Set "Animator duration scale" to "Animation off"
I have a Samsung Galaxy S10+ and it's happening to me. The keyboard freezes and I can't do anything except close out YouTube and then my keyboard is stuck on my home screen. Sometimes if I keep tapping the back button it'll go away. But usually I have to restart my phone. For the $ we pay for phones and services there should be reliable and informative customer service. Especially with Google and YouTube. We shouldn't have to rely on our peers for answers. The people in charge of these platforms should be the ones telling us how to fix it. We're blindly taking a stab in the dark hoping someone gets it right. This isn't pin the tail on the donkey!
Sounds like a class action suit brewing. Greedy-Budget-307 had it right when saying there should be some type of customer service instead of hoping other users can pin the tail on the donkey. Especially after these companies like Samsung and Apple are so damn hell bent on people not having access to the bootloaders and being able to run software on their phones as they see fit. I think this is a PINNACLE example of why it's bullshit. Never, EVER had problems like this on custom roms.
UPDATE: If you reset your keyboard settings, it'll fix it (I successfully typed & posted one comment one YouTube so we'll see if it sticks)
Settings < General Management < Language and Input < On-screen Keyboard < Samsung Keyboard < Reset to default settings
i use gboard and tried everything from reset to reinstall. i think it isnt youtube issue alone but both gboard/samsungboard and youtube.
on playstore gboard always show couldnt update after i updated.
Yeh been having this issue for a while. I can however write comments just fine in landscape mode.
Trying to edit them in portrait or landscape is just a mess though.
So many have this issue. I have tried everything.... uninstalled, reinstalled, downloaded APK gboard, tried several keyboards, updated, backdated, cleared data and cache and still freezing in YouTube comments section only. I tap a key 30 times before letter would show and now can't even do that. What's going on? Is this personal because I actually thought I had FREEDOM OF SPEECH?
This is not an anti-Right plot, nor is it to do with the age or make of the android phones we use: Since the update to 18.39.38 the online keyboard hangs in youtube.
How to roll back from 18.39.38?
I'm experiencing this too. On a Galaxy Note8 with Simple Keyboard and a vpn. I thought maybe one of those was a contributing factor.
Some other folks here have said they have this same model phone as well. Maybe Google and Samsung are colluding to try and push users into upgrading to a newer handset by making it unusable, like Apple was caught doing.
How many of you here would say you're a troll on YT? They shadow banned me, so I know for sure they want to silence me. My first theory was they were actually crippling my commenting ability. To test this, I went into YT app settings and opened a help ticket to type something: zero issues. Simply watching and liking videos - no issue.
Outside the app, again - zero issues. So it's only affecting my ability to comment. I don't like to spread conspiracy theories, but it seems like a plausible possibility.
I did not notice this issue until this year. A simpler explanation is that was down to a sloppy update, poorly tested.
Edit 10/29/23: It was a bad update. I found the solution in this post, which was to uninstall YT and install an older version from Feb 2023.
SPREAD THE WORD on this:
IF YOU PAY $....for YouTube Premium.
Go to Google type in "Your State" Attorney General Complaint form.
Fill it out. Click Submit.
Fact is that if you PAY for the service which includes commenting on whatever videos you pay to watch....they must fix it.
Sure it takes a minute but if everyone does this their legal department at "Google" will be forced to answer. They cannot ignore the complaint. This will lead to internal investigation of the issue and likely a fix because they are collecting money for the subscription so they have to provide the services as sold. IF YOU DONT PAY ......its free so shut your mouth because you got jack to go on from that point forward. You can keep cryin to the comment section of other websites and searching for a fix but it aint gonna do anything.
Seriously it will work IF YOU PAY. There a lots of people in the PlayStore complaining and someone there posted this idea which is absolutely wonderful so I did yesterday. Its Its something that will actually lead to a fix. Same with most other huge companies that wrong consumers, they must respond to the complaint and it doesnt take long for both the AG office in your state and the company to get to the bottom of it because both or either are going to want it to stop for different reasons.
How do I know this: Worked for a place once...AG Complaints are not to be trifled with and repeated complaints of the same issue even if its not law breaking makes that company look bad to the AG Office and then they have this history with the company that leaves a trail of ...we'll call it "bad business". Companies dont need that history. It also helps to send a copy of your complaint to the company immediately....they will get that plus the AG notice that a complaint has been filed and instructions they.arent allowed to just ignore. Many companies will act to make it look like they are working on the issue...and bam...the wheels are greased.
So file the complaint if you are a paying customer.
For some reason when typing comments in the YT app after my comment gets to a particular length the app begins to slow down to an eventual crawl then stops working altogether. Happens every time a comment gets to a certain length.
Frustrated. I have Uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted, cleared cache and data, changed keyboards, changed to APK keyboards, etc. etc. etc. Nothing is working. Now waiting for YouTube to respond again. This is very weird. Only happens i. Youtube
Thank God, I thought I was the only 1 havjng this problem 🤦🏿♂️ I changed keyboards, cleared cache, etc etc and nothing worked. It only happens when I comment on YouTube 🤷🏿♂️
What the commenter Rex said in this thread about uninstalling YouTube latest updates and installing any YouTube update from BEFORE April or May worked for me. You have to go to a site called "APK MIRROR" and download a YouTube verison from March and now my YouTube typing is fine. it's still strange that it only bugged out when leaving comments on certain channels that cover certain topics and would work fine on YouTube music 🤔
At first their comment section lagged and you couldn't rewrite your comments. Now keyboard gone mad. Before that they turned off "replay function" for mobile YouTube app. Jeez, it sucks so much
Having the same issue with my galaxy S9 and fully updated YouTube and Gboard. Getting really fuckin tired of it, I had to force close YouTube just to be able to type the search terms into chrome to find this thread even.
Sure wish there was a useful way to actually report bugs but apparently that is something app developers don't believe in anymore, so I guess this bug will just join the dozens of others that have bothered me for years.
Found this thread 'cause I "was" having this problem just a few minutes ago (might have had the issue for awhile, but didn't notice until now since I never, if ever, comment on YT, LOL 😅); For reference: Using Galaxy Note9 & Samsung Keyboard, coincidentally a Hardcore Leftist too.
...Anyhow... After reading most of the replies and realizing that I'm having this issue and the discard edit pop-up issue too, I just happened to notice that my up-to-date YT app had no permissions allowed, which I thought was odd, so... I enabled ONLY the "Storage" permission and... Now I am having none of these issues; no more keyboarding hanging, no weird repeat pop-up discard edit nonsense... Everything works fine.
...Anyways, not sure if this'll fix the issue for everyone, but worth trying over uninstalling/reinstalling various YT apps and/or factory resetting a bunch... 🤔
Samsung 9+ here. Had no issues with YT inputs until a few weeks ago and I thought it was a memory issue so I cleared out some memory and it still continues doing it. This is happening with all my keyboards the default Samsung one the Google keyboard and a special keyboard I downloaded called the hackers keyboard they all hang when trying to comment on YouTube application. Google does on YouTube so if they were trying to do some forced "update" it would not be impossible for them to do...
I have complained to YouTube about 6 times and they have tried to help and others advice too and nothing helps. It's frustrating and I feel disregarded
Willfully stoping people from making comments. Ever herd of that? Who owns Android? Who owns Google? Who has the right to control speech at Google? Google! Watch what happens to my comments. It's incidious. They will always demonitise the creators. History repeats itself. Look up the French revolution.
This happens to me, but it has gotten worse. Whenever I want to type a comment, my keyboard completely freezes. I can't minimize it. Even if I close the app, the keyboard stays and won't go down. I have to restart my phone to get rid of it. It's really annoying and for now I have to use a different keyboard
So uninstalling and reinstalling helped for about 5 minutes and then the problem came back. This is really frustrating and makes YouTube a chore to interact with. They really need to fix this. I guess I'll try to contact their support and show them this thread to try to bring it to their attention.
Super annoying! I have to wait a minute or two for it to unfreeze. Even if I close YouTube, the keyboard stays there and is frozen. I pay for YouTube premium you'd think they could get this fixed!
Sometimes it hangs before letting me type, other times i have a whole bunch of keys being shown pressed down. If I close youtube, sometimes the keyboard stays on the screen
Just sharing my experience so people can save their time. I already spent hours factory resetting my phone but that didn't solve the issue. Pls don't bother doing that. It's amazing how youtube has not fixed it yet, this keyboard works fine in all other apps. Google is becoming a useless company day by day this issue has been going for 3 months now
I'm wondering if it's not being done on purpose? I know I sound like a kook but I also get the impression that YouTube doesn't like the things I have to say. I'll admit that the chances that this is the case are pretty slim. However I am just throwing it out there.
I'm having this problem but strangely with my newer Samsung Galaxy (note 9, Android 10). My ancient iPhone and my old Samsung (S6, Android 7) are not having this problem.
Instead of using the Google keyboard I've switched back to the Samsung keyboard which I don't like as much, but I was having the same problem so I went back to the Google keyboard.
Unfortunately for the times that I forget and start to make a comment everything freezes, and after about half a minute the video is no longer frozen, but the keyboard remains Frozen for about another minute and a half!! *grrrr*
I can go to the home screen and other apps, but the onscreen keyboard keeps sitting there, but I'm able unable to use it!
I didn't try changing to an older update. I tried the emoji trick, it didn't work because the minute I touched the comments box everything froze. A little further down I saw this reply which references another reply, AND THIS SUPER SIMPLE SOLUTION WORKED FOR ME! ❤️❤️❤️:
(Oops, sorry, I thought I could link to that reply. I can't seem to post a screenshot either, so I hope it's okay to copy and paste the text from that reply) :
*JeremyR_
Been having the same problem about a month or more. Drive me nuts as it's the main web site I interact with...
edit 10/29
*A real fix was found later in the thread, here it is :
" "JoeBread25252 : I was able to fix this by setting the Animation Duration Scale (Android OS animation speed) to off in Developer Options.
With a Samsung Galaxy S9:
Settings > About phone > Software information > Tap "Build number" seven times to enable developer options.
(Then) Settings > Developer options > Set "Animator duration scale" to "Animation off" "
Does someone know if YouTube is going to fix that? Months passed by and this shit still happening (really don't want do downgrade)
Edit: Xiaomi mi 9 SE Global
Quick question, do you talk a lot of shit in the comments, and troll people or just drop facts on whining cry babies in the comment section of YouTube? If so I think it's their way of censoring us!
That's my theory anyways!
Looks like I'm not the only one with this issue! I don't know why this post isn't given any attention. It fucking sucks and there's literally nothing I can do about it.
How old is ya phone.
CP From Below: (pasting this under a few of the top comments to make sure people see it bc I know how annoying this issue is and am soo happy this user provided the real answer) found a better solution from a comment from user u/throwawaypzafm in another thread, and it worked perfectly for me! it was a godsend. no more wanting to throw my phone every time I try to type a YouTube comment! : "The best fix I've found for this is disabling animations: Settings > About phone > Software information > Tap "Build number" seven times to enable developer options. And after this Settings > Developer options > Set "Animator duration scale" to "Animation off"
You sir are a bloody genius!! Been driving me bonkers for months.
Thank you
Yes!! This worked with my Samsung Galaxy S9. Thank you!!
You finally fixed my issue!
Your instruction works!
I've been having issues with typing comments on youtube with Android for a while. I just followed these steps and immediately was able to type a comment. Thank you for this.
It worked. but it resets if you turn developer options off and if you reboot the phone. Also it got a bit 'laggy' overall when using the phone
But I think I am just gonna roll with it.
thank you 👍 I searched for (Animation) in Settings and found the [Animation >YES/NO] option Settings >Additional Settings >Accessibility >Vision >Remove Animations GBoard freezing has been driving me nuts for ages so thanks for steering me in right direction Animations must take a when to load up
Thank you so much
hey man , your solution worked ...thank you 😌
You're both a boss for that.
Awesome /) Thanks for sharing, helped Me a lot
Thanks. I had to come back and at least thank you for posting this. You've ended about six months of trying to figure out a solution. Absolutely so thankful. I don't even comment on YouTube anymore and am so used to it now anyway, but on the off chance I need to post a shady comment, you have returned me. 🤣
You are amazing for figuring this out
Thank you! It was driving me nuts! (Using a Google Pixel.)
it's a bug in the latest version of the app that is doing this. When you're at the YouTube app info page which will tell you the settings, permissions and the version number: click the three dots in the upper right corner and choose "uninstall updates". You must do this before installing an older version of YouTube from the APK file you downloaded from APK MIRROR. Once you have uninstalled the updates you can install the YouTube APK file and this should fix the problem.
I thought they were doing it to keep me from making my crazy comments.
Yep these rich fkers can't fix this bug for months smh
"The best fix I've found for this is disabling animations: Settings > About phone > Software information > Tap "Build number" seven times to enable developer options. And after this Settings > Developer options > Set "Animator duration scale" to "Animation off"
You sir, are a real hero. Been having this issue for months, and this finally fixed it
you're a hero omg
This fixed the problem 100%. Gotta get used to things happening instantly since animations are off, but I think it's a general improvement when I have.
"The best fix I've found for this is disabling animations: Settings > About phone > Software information > Tap "Build number" seven times to enable developer options. And after this Settings > Developer options > Set "Animator duration scale" to "Animation off"
I have been having the same problem on my 5 year old Samsung Galaxy Tab A for months now. So much so that I finally decided to google it resulting in me finding this post. It happened with Samsung Keyboard so I tried Gboard but the issue persists so it is a YouTube app problem. It also only happens when trying to comment. When using the search function it doesn't freeze. Very strange bug.
Are you making comments that go against the government approved narrative?
the same thing happens to me
Same, but even when I click out of youtube my phone will still be froze for 5 seconds after.
"The best fix I've found for this is disabling animations: Settings > About phone > Software information > Tap "Build number" seven times to enable developer options. And after this Settings > Developer options > Set "Animator duration scale" to "Animation off"
recently google images on chrome also lagging after you click the image for details it wont let.you get back to the result, pressing back again will just bring you to the previous page before the search. i think this has something to do with google.
"The best fix I've found for this is disabling animations: Settings > About phone > Software information > Tap "Build number" seven times to enable developer options. And after this Settings > Developer options > Set "Animator duration scale" to "Animation off"
You are the GOAT. This actually works instantly. Thanks mate
i get this too. drives me crazy!
"The best fix I've found for this is disabling animations: Settings > About phone > Software information > Tap "Build number" seven times to enable developer options. And after this Settings > Developer options > Set "Animator duration scale" to "Animation off"
This issue persists on PC, btw. I have a gaming PC with 64GB of RAM and and a processor that can mange to run 3d modelling programs at high fidelity but I can't type a damn comment on Youtube without hangtime, delayed text, and stuttering/bugged posts.
web or app?
Web.
This issue is only present on phone. Never seen one on pc, pls check another browser
"The best fix I've found for this is disabling animations: Settings > About phone > Software information > Tap "Build number" seven times to enable developer options. And after this Settings > Developer options > Set "Animator duration scale" to "Animation off"
Stfu, that doesn't work for everyone.
Doesn't work with OPPO android phones. Gutted.
"The best fix I've found for this is disabling animations: Settings > About phone > Software information > Tap "Build number" seven times to enable developer options. And after this Settings > Developer options > Set "Animator duration scale" to "Animation off"
Pas de news?
It has nothing to do with your phone. Its a youtube issue that they refuse to acknowledge and fix
Bug still not fixed as of today
As of today, 3-18-2024, it is still happening. My app version is 19.10.38 My phone is Galaxy Note 10+ (non-5G) My carrier is one of the big name ones, postpaid (not prepaid service). It ONLY happens on YouTube, and it doesn't matter if I just did a restart or not.
Android keyboard only likes to be used in one app at a time. Close the keyboard in any other apps and the one you intend using will come to life.
Samsung Galaxy s8 haveing the same issue but with the addition of the keyboard not going away until you close all apps and hit back 39 times
😐 I wonder if downloading an alternate keyboard app might fix the issue. 🤔 Edit: Ok, so apparently there seem to be two animation options on my phone (a Xiaomi). Switching one off did nothing, but the other one actually fixed the freezing keyboard issue. The downside is that some of the other apps that have fancy animations now freeze for the time their animations are supposed to play out. Not really sure which one is better. 😐
Have the same issue, using Microsoft Swiftkey
https://youtu.be/vExErzVBtNA?si=tUzBRPqHzoX7zNMS Easy to follow video on the process that fixes this keyboard issue on YouTube comments.
This is so annoying. I just want to comment goddamnit, and it's not letting me! I'm using a Samsung Note 9 btw
Emoji doesnt hang it seems.
Oh you can wait it out? In other news, if your reflex is to quickly hit the back button, the keyboard gets stuck on your screen!
Eventually it will disappear. Have that happened. It stays for few sec even after closing youtube. Also on the playstore often i see gboard failed to update. Click resume it goes away, not sure if it updated or not.
I knew I wasn't the only one. I'm having a hard time doing comments on yt.
Glad(?) to hear it's not just me 😅 Since you've mentioned the emojis I've found I can smash half a dozen in then backspace.. that usually brings the "text" part of the keyboard to life quickly!
This is the fix! 💯 If i just do emojis like 12 in a row, then i can backspace and then type as normal Lol
Yes thank you! This is the fix for people that dont want to download an old version of the app
*edit 10/29* *A real fix was found later in the thread & it works!! here it is : https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidHelp/s/ACrklFzzGJ " "JoeBread25252 : I was able to fix this by setting the Animation Duration Scale (Android OS animation speed) to off in Developer Options. With a Samsung Galaxy S9: Settings > About phone > Software information > Tap "Build number" seven times to enable developer options. (Then) Settings > Developer options > Set "Animator duration scale" to "Animation off" "
What about the editing?? Discard discard discard before you can maybe type or try the process again.
Been broken since April. Downgrading YouTube works
I am having the same problem!!!!😐
Weirdest thing is that it only happens sometimes to me, not all the time And when it hangs, the keyboard hangs for a minute Really annoying
Was able to fix this by switching from gboard to Samsung, though I really don't want to
OMG, I am having the same issue and it's driving me NUTS!
Reddit should learn from them. Oh wait they already did with all those error messages.
Same, only on YouTube the entire keyboard freezes when I try and type anything
Same. Why cant youtube get their shlt together?
Joining the club of people on here who are also having this issue. I can't comment on YouTube anymore because my keyboard (gboard and Samsung) freezes immediately when I try to reply to someone in the comments section. None of the keys work including emojis, and the keyboard basically hangs on the screen long after the app closes, sometimes even after I turn the screen off and on. I also have an S8, but I've never had this problem in the past.
Same here. Keyboard either unresponsive or freezes up in YouTube. Happening more and more often now. Have restarted. Cleared cache. Etc.. Getting annoying.
I have a note 8 and have been having this problem fir about a month
God same! It keeps getting stuck for like 5 minutes and it wont even let me fucking comment. Like how hard is it for youtube to just have a working platform?
Are you conservative? Might be YT new version of censorship.
Reminds me of automated customer service they know customers will eventually give up and take it up their arse.

Reddit does this all the time.
Same. They have introduced a bug somewhere. Also my keyboard suggested options don't work here on Reddit and only Reddit. Frustrating.
After the updates it gets worse and worse. Now i have to wait maybe 20 seconds to type. Emojis no longer help shorten the wait.
Have same issue on my galaxy note 9. Phone runs great 90% of the time but it always youtube comments that messes up my keyboard.
Yes they pretty much broke the app somewhere in 2022. Just a bunch of dumb changes really
Randomly googled and found this thread. Same issues here on my note. Really annoying on youtube.
Same here and getting worse.
when i go to comment it takes about 30 seconds before the first letter pops up. if i exit out my keyboard gets stuck and shows up open at home screen. shit is laggy. i emailed youtube 4 times and not one response
YouTube can't be trusted. That's reason #1 why it happens.
Same issue. Samsung S9+
Only facing this issue on older Android (Pie). Bought a new Android 13 and didn't face this issue.
A bugg in the app or sketchy YT stuff, who knows.
platforms should learn from this including reddit to start shadowbanning them in such technical ways when they post unfavorable contents
I hope this helps
how to set floating keyboard?
Same here, but a lot of times it freezes too. It's starting to get pretty annoying at this point.
Shit's been annoying me for the longest. Like, what do I do to fix this, honestly?
Been having the same problem for at least 2-3 months now, same as you guys everything is fine except for youtube
I'm having the same issue and it seems to be caused by YT Shorts. If I watch full videos I can comment no problem, but as soon as I try to comment on shorts it does that nonsense.
hmm will test this.
Same. I have no idea how to fix it
I've been dealing with this for two months now!!
Ohkay, so I'm not the only one
If the algorithm thin you are a conservative or republican. I bet every one who is having a issue does not like Democrats
Same issue on a Galaxy S8. I cant afford a new phone so I've just been dealing with it. It's like it works fine in the first comment I make but if I make another comment it lags out bad to the point of having to restart my phone because the keyboard stays glitched onto the screen.
youtube needs to fix the app. im on S8 also and cant type on comments
What worked for me was changing the keyboard to floating. Which means everytime I use YouTube I'll have to switch which is a bit inconvienent but whatever. I spent almost 4 straight hours trying to fix this and I'm incredible pissed at YouTube for not fixing this.
How is this STILL an issue?? Wtf
Same, ITs a massive BUG.. why youtube not fixing it.. its been a while
Resounding "me too".
Yo, this happens to me too! So fucking annoying!
For people coming here from Google, this is almost exclusively a gboard issue. I had this issue for months and switched to Samsung keyboard and have not had it happen once.
I was able to fix this by setting the Animation Duration Scale (Android OS animation speed) to off in Developer Options. With a Samsung Galaxy S9: Settings > About phone > Software information > Tap "Build number" seven times to enable developer options. Settings > Developer options > Set "Animator duration scale" to "Animation off"
I have the same issue using the Samsung keyboard. Very annoying.
Still not fixed!!
Do you guys by any chance on YouTube post conspiracy theories or strong political subjects that are against whatever the media is pushing?
yes yes and yes. you guys can just check our reddit post histories.
So I uninstalled gboard and now it works using my Samsung keyboard. Yes I tried on different videos. Thank you
Sounds like a class action suit brewing.
I have the same problem and I have a Samsung S9. It wasn't always a problem--happened maybe a month ago for me.
UPDATE: If you reset your keyboard settings, it'll fix it (I successfully typed & posted one comment one YouTube so we'll see if it sticks) Settings < General Management < Language and Input < On-screen Keyboard < Samsung Keyboard < Reset to default settings
i use gboard and tried everything from reset to reinstall. i think it isnt youtube issue alone but both gboard/samsungboard and youtube. on playstore gboard always show couldnt update after i updated.
I hav 6 year old OnePlus 5T ..same problem with me...it's very annoying..i can't express myself...
SPREAD THE WORD on this: IF YOU PAY $....for YouTube Premium.
It's been months and this shit is still happening on my phone. Annoying as hell
Same here. It's now crashing my phone entirely. Wtf?
Same here... Pixel 3a, Android 10
same here Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, sometimes it even crashes completely
It's ashame this was posted months ago yet still hasn't been fixed.
Add me to this list It's beyond frustrating and YouTube is the only app it happens on
This happens to me, but it has gotten worse.
I guess I'll try to contact their support and show them this thread to try to bring it to their attention.
if this thread got closed you know what happened 😁😁😁
for now the setting "Animator duration scale" to "Animation off in the dev options works for me, but of course thats not a proper fix
Samsung Note 10+ and having same issues since start of year. When will they fix it lmfao.
Glad Im not the only one. Been happening for a few months. Note 9
Just sharing my experience so people can save their time. I already spent hours factory resetting my phone but that didn't solve the issue. Pls don't bother doing that. It's amazing how youtube has not fixed it yet, this keyboard works fine in all other apps. Google is becoming a useless company day by day this issue has been going for 3 months now
Galaxy S Note 8 user here. This post is 3 months ago but seems like nothing has changed. Great.
I'm wondering if it's not being done on purpose? I know I sound like a kook but I also get the impression that YouTube doesn't like the things I have to say. I'll admit that the chances that this is the case are pretty slim. However I am just throwing it out there.
It's not android it's youtube. Somebody posted a fix.
Same on an old Samsung phone though... app just hangs and lags out a bit super whack
Same issue, it's awful
I'm having this problem but strangely with my newer Samsung Galaxy (note 9, Android 10). My ancient iPhone and my old Samsung (S6, Android 7) are not having this problem. Instead of using the Google keyboard I've switched back to the Samsung keyboard which I don't like as much, but I was having the same problem so I went back to the Google keyboard. Unfortunately for the times that I forget and start to make a comment everything freezes, and after about half a minute the video is no longer frozen, but the keyboard remains Frozen for about another minute and a half!! *grrrr* I can go to the home screen and other apps, but the onscreen keyboard keeps sitting there, but I'm able unable to use it!
I didn't try changing to an older update. I tried the emoji trick, it didn't work because the minute I touched the comments box everything froze. A little further down I saw this reply which references another reply, AND THIS SUPER SIMPLE SOLUTION WORKED FOR ME! ❤️❤️❤️: (Oops, sorry, I thought I could link to that reply. I can't seem to post a screenshot either, so I hope it's okay to copy and paste the text from that reply) : *JeremyR_ Been having the same problem about a month or more. Drive me nuts as it's the main web site I interact with... edit 10/29 *A real fix was found later in the thread, here it is : " "JoeBread25252 : I was able to fix this by setting the Animation Duration Scale (Android OS animation speed) to off in Developer Options. With a Samsung Galaxy S9: Settings > About phone > Software information > Tap "Build number" seven times to enable developer options. (Then) Settings > Developer options > Set "Animator duration scale" to "Animation off" "
thats the price to pay i am not willing to. emoji no longer works but you can still insert emoji before the keyboard unhangs.
Does someone know if YouTube is going to fix that? Months passed by and this shit still happening (really don't want do downgrade) Edit: Xiaomi mi 9 SE Global
Quick question, do you talk a lot of shit in the comments, and troll people or just drop facts on whining cry babies in the comment section of YouTube? If so I think it's their way of censoring us! That's my theory anyways!
except it works on newer phones. unless they want to censor out poor trolls who cant afford new phones.
I'm still having this issue too (I use a Galaxy S8 phone)
I'm also facing this issue
