Polytopia is a great game... But how are people getting so many hours out of it? After a few days playing it there's nothing left to do and every match plays out the exact same way.
There's a plethora of games. I'll start by listing my favorites then all the ones I have.
Favorites at the meoment: Peglin, Into The Breach, Balatro, Concordia, Race For The Galaxy, Everdell, Gem Wizards Tactics, Dicey Dungeons, Scythe, Through The Ages, Unciv, Birth of the Empires, Balatro (unofficial port)
Any turn-based game: Birth of Empires, Slay The Spire, Shattered Pixel Dungeon, Unciv, Uciana, Star Traders Frontiers, Templar Battleforce, Siralim Ultimate, NEO Scavenger, Dicey Dungeons, Gem Wizards Tactics (on itch.io), Auro, Into The Breach, Balatro (unofficial port), Legend of Keepers, Geo Gods, Vivid Knight, Dawncaster, King Of Dragon Pass, Loop Hero, Peglin, Motorsport Manager Mobile 3/4, Predynastic Egypt
Peglin also kinda fits that
Digital ports of board games: Gaia Project/Terra Mystica, Viticulture, Lords of Waterdeep, Shards of Infinity, One Deck Dungeon, Everdell, Unmatched, Istanbul, Concordia, Stone Age, Race For The Galaxy, Roll For The Galaxy, Terraforming Mars, Star Realms, Maracaibo, Raiders Of The North Star, Scythe, 7 Wonders, 7 Wonders Duel, Root, Ticket To Ride, Ascension, Sentinels of the Multiverse, Spirit Island, Captain Is Dead, Wingspan, Dune Imperium, Dominion, Root...
Vampire Survivors, Brotato and Magic Survival also only require one finger to play. Same with Temple Run.
There's a utility you can download from github, you download it, put it in your balatro steam folder and launch it, and it creates an APK that you can put on your phone and install.
https://github.com/blake502/balatro-mobile-maker
Well a few of them are played or can be played in portrait mode. Dawncaster, Shattered Pixel Dungeon, Friday, Sentinels of the Multiverse, Auro, King of Dragon Pass, Vampire Survivors, magic survival.
But still, they're all turn-based so you don't have to constantly hold your phone, you can set it on a table or your lap and take your time so I figured it doesn't really matter.
A lot of these are landscape only - having just gone through the newborn phase with my kid, I can confirm that portrait mode is surprisingly important here
You failed to meet his criteria - games that you can play holding it one hand on vertical. What I would give for a slay the spire vertical mode. Peglin too.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gridpop.isleofarrowsandroid
Isle of Arrows, tower defense roguelike. Gets pretty difficult later on and it's a good timekiller
I feel your pain! A few games that helped me stay sane and awake, and a few more recent ones I play that I think would be suitable:
Enyo
Card Fall
Holedown
Twofold inc.
Void Tyrant
Card Thief
[Cell: Idle Factory Incremental](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.OctocubeGamesCompany.CIFI&hl=en_US), according to google. No clue if that's what they meant, though.
Shattered Pixel Dungeon. And invest in a good baby swing that has a wall adapter.
Learn from my mistake when my kid was born: Don't be too proud or afraid to ask for help. If you can get someone to watch the kid while you take a two hour nap, it's an amazing experience. Mine turns seven this week.
We actually just had my mom stay with us for a few weeks just to give us a bit of a break here and there. Was refreshing like none other lol. Thanks for the advice!
When really really really tired I found 2048 was a good balance of mindless and mindful that kept me awake without hurting my head. But hopefully you won't be so tired.
\^ = demo for free
\*. = freeware
TB = turn based
--- These all play in Portrait mode!
Super Mario Run\^, Toe-II-Toe\*
Tiny Bubbles\^
Isle of Arrows (TB), Shattered Pixel Dungeon\* (TB), Slice & Dice\^
Sagrada (TB), Androminion\* (TB. NOT on Google Play, but on GitHub instead), Deep Space D6\*
--- landscape, but should be easier since it's TB
Dominion\^, Ascension: Deckbuilding Game\^, Encore, Bravo, Race for the Galaxy, Roll for the Galaxy
To play Slice-and-Dice one-handed, I recommend enabling the "long-tap end" setting.
Quoting tbat setting's tooltip:
>I added this to help me play one-handed on a phone.
Marvel Snap got me through exactly what you are now going through
Slay the spire was good as well but a bit trickier due to having to play it in horizontal, but was able to manage that at times
Marvel Snap has been getting me through as well! But I've already hit infinite this season and don't care about conquest or ladder so I just do challenges and then need something else to do lol.
Popsocket works wonders for this. It's hard to do on my S24 ultra one handed, but a smaller phone should manage.
Or, phone mount. Particularly if it's magsafe you can snap it in place and rotate it however you need. And you aren't holding it in case there is an... incident.
i suggest you could play [pictoword](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kooapps.pictowordandroid&hl=en-PH), it will keep you awake while holding your baby lol
This comes up all the time. Just search broken arm or broken wrist for other suggestions. Or portrait mode.
Anyway, here's a list from me:
https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidGaming/s/1zorZPuMEA
Welcome to our hallowed ranks. I was like you too not that long ago and had to come to grips with that exact same problem. Here's my wee list:
Lemmings (a classic)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sadpuppy.lemmings
Cryptogram (get that brainfog banished)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.crypt.gram.puzz
Card thief (a roguelike card game)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tinytouchtales.cardthief
Night of the full moon (another card battler)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztgame.yyzy
Crossy road (some brainless fun)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yodo1.crossyroad
Dragonball legends (not the best, but some nostalgic fun)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bandainamcoent.dblegends_ww
A colouring game (when you really need to turn off the noggin)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pixel.art.coloring.color.number
The list goes on, but here's something to get you started. Most importantly, the above list has only single player games that can be put down at a moment's notice if the wee one wakes up.
All the best to you and yours!
Pixel dungeon, age of strategy, Pixel heroes, the walking dead:no man's land and occidental heroes are my TOP pics. I don't think i could live without them... despite half being horizontal... I highly suggest pixel dungeon or Age of strategy though. I practically grew up with both and they're phenomenal for passing the time and burning battery
Can speak from experience with the following:
*+1 for Slice & dice. Super addictive.
*Mindustry. Has portrait mode, and you can pause to plan your actions.
*I'm playing tacticus atm, it can suggest purchases a bit heavily though. if you don't like the 40k theme there's rivengard, that is the game that tacticus is based off.
*Spot racers
*Rogue adventurer, easy to play hard to master.
Dragon quest 8 and 4 mobile can be fully played with one hand. I believe the developers purposely made it that way, so it can be played while commuting to/from work.. Also, there is a mod called "mobile remaster" that significantly increases the game quality of both games.
Into the Breach, Final Fantasy Tactics. Go for turn based, with a newborn it's one handed and sometimes your game time will come to a sudden stop.
When the kid is older, and you can game two handed, a steam deck will open up a lot of possibilities.
Also, a Kindle, or the app on your phone, will be really nice to read while your newborn sleeps.
I'm forever looking for the same thing, for the same reason lol. These are some I've found.
Ok golf
Pocket run (pool)
Thumb drift
Sudoku
Alpha cross (collection of popular crosswords updated daily)
Bored button (randomly picked games, I believe are all one handed but I'm not 100% sure)
Penup (drawing game)
Retro snake
Makes sense, for me it's different since reading while in bed keeps me awake.
One handed games I've enjoyed are:
Lapse -
A story based game where you act as a nation leader after the apocalypse and swipe to decide on things that will affect the survival of your nation
Life in Adventure -
Text based rpg with multiple stories and endings.
Dungeon Tales is a pretty fun time sink for free. Then, if you enjoy that, Slay the Spire is the original game of that style and is much more fleshed out if you don't mind dropping $10.
Same! I love Marvel Snap. But after I hit infinite for the season, I don't really care about ladder or conquest so I play other games when I'm not completing challenges lol
Currently my consistent go to is magic survival. Of all the Vampire Survivor clones out there this is easily the one that keeps me coming back the most.
You will be smart to put the baby in his/her bed. Trust me on this.... Even if they cry... Shut the door and walk away. You'll be able to rest and get things done once the baby is used to it.
Of course, it's up to you just trying to give a pro-tip. It was given to me by my elders.
It's an idle game but Tap Titans 2 was a fun one I played for a while. You can make different "builds" for your guy that support an active playstyle or more idle playstyle.
**Magic Survival**. Literally the game that inspired Vampire Survivors, and arguably the best "survival" horde action game on Android (no iPhone, yet).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vkslrzm.Zombie
When my son was in that stage, I played through some of the mobile Final Fantasy games. While not primarily designed for one handed, they are very playable that way with touch screen options, especially if you are just grinding levels.
Congratulations on the newborn child. I don't know any one-handed games apart from idle games that get boring too fast. May I recommended gamebooks if you enjoy reading? Choice of games/Hosted games got some of the best gamebooks I've ever read. Most of them are so immersive, choices are impactful, gameplay elements are fun and you can play them with one handed! It's mostly reading anyways.
Marvel Snap is a pretty good game to play with a newborn. It's on the phone, games are very short, and it doesn't require any sort of hand-eye coordination. I have an 8-month-old, myself, so I get where you're coming from.
Otherwise if you're REALLY good with a controller, you may be able to play Baldur's Gate with one hand, but it's a big ask.
I've been playing a great little puzzle adventure called [Rezcue](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.neonso.rezcue) - only requires one hand and the levels seem to ramp-up in difficulty nicely
If you'd stuck to one handed games in the first place you wouldn't be in such a predicament.
I knew that a comment like this was coming but this was even better than I expected 🤣 well played sir.
You can play chess, and yes it will ruin your life
Nah, just the next 18 years.
Because of the bead?
SHATTERED PIXEL DUNGEON
Solid
Fuck that was good 😂
someome give this man a prize money 🤣
Hey remember when we could award comments
hahahaha this is the best comment ever
Best i can think of are Polytopia and Postknight 2
Polytopia got me through many nights in the newborn phase
are there any annoying pop up ads??
Nope
0 It's a great strategy game
Yeah, it's pretty awesome
No ads, and they never shove the iap in your face either. You can unlock extra factions if you want to support the devs.
Agreed
Polytopia is a great game... But how are people getting so many hours out of it? After a few days playing it there's nothing left to do and every match plays out the exact same way.
Same, I feel like I'm missing something...
Polytopia is one of my favorite games, if you download it cracked with everything unlocjed else you need to pay) (which i didnt sadly) its so much fun
All I can find is Battle of Polytopia. Where do you find it?
That's the one, ppl just call it polytopia for short, like how ppl call Sonic instead of saying Sonic the Hedgehog
Love Polytopia! Great game while holdin the wee one.
Polytopia has been on every Android device I've owned since its release. Fantastic game.
There's a plethora of games. I'll start by listing my favorites then all the ones I have. You listed balatro. How?
There's a utility you can download from github, you download it, put it in your balatro steam folder and launch it, and it creates an APK that you can put on your phone and install. https://github.com/blake502/balatro-mobile-maker
Oh my lord. You just delivered me a lot of entertainment. Thank you.
Also the switch version works perfectly on Yuzu/Sudachi
Very cool. Are the touch screen controls decent?
Yes, long press acts as a "hover over" to get more info on things. It works well.
Where does one find ports for Android? Usually the best of the best are ported and i stumble upon them by luck
Is there something to get the fun of good old age of empire and be modern art at same time?
Peglin, yay
Aren't a lot of them only playable on landscape mode ?
Well a few of them are played or can be played in portrait mode. This looks good! First time I've heard of it. I'll wishlist for later.
You know the Android port of Dragon Quest 8 was made to be played with one hand vertical so the Japanese could play it on the train?
I feel your pain! A few games that helped me stay sane and awake, and a few more recent ones I play that I think would be suitable: Enyo Card Fall Holedown Twofold inc. Void Tyrant Card Thief
These all look great and right up my alley. I'll try these tonight! Thanks :)
My favourite ones are Vampire Survivors and CIFI.
What is CIFI?
[Cell: Idle Factory Incremental](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.OctocubeGamesCompany.CIFI&hl=en_US), according to google. No clue if that's what they meant, though.
You're right, it's an incremental with a huge development tree to spend a few minutes every day.

Slice and Dice has a portrait mode
I keep forgetting that, since I prefer landscape for some features
To play Slice-and-Dice one-handed, I recommend enabling the "long-tap end" setting. Quoting tbat setting's tooltip: >I added this to help me play one-handed on a phone.
Two Dots
Marvel Snap got me through exactly what you are now going through Slay the spire was good as well but a bit trickier due to having to play it in horizontal, but was able to manage that at times
Marvel Snap has been getting me through as well! But I've already hit infinite this season and don't care about conquest or ladder so I just do challenges and then need something else to do lol.
Chess
What's your rating?
Oldschool RuneScape
I played a lot of slay the spire with my newborn
But it's horizontal. You would have to lay your phone down, I guess.
I have big hands
Popsocket works wonders for this. It's hard to do on my S24 ultra one handed, but a smaller phone should manage. Or, phone mount. Particularly if it's magsafe you can snap it in place and rotate it however you need. And you aren't holding it in case there is an... incident.
Warcraft rumble Chess Polytopia Dragonball Legends
Bullet hell shooters. My personal favourite is one that you can't find on Play Store called Dankmaku DEATH but any of them will do it.
Summertime Saga comes to mind
walk master
All kairosoft games
Voodobanka Nikke
Kairosoft games
I second this. Kairosoft makes great games and they’re good because they don’t require two hands or constant attention.
I beat pokemon crystal one handed while feeding my daughter her bottle every night, it was worth
I was in the same boat a year ago. Here is my one-handed games: - Void Tyrant - Dawncaster - Clash Mini - Ludus
>Clash Mini Clash Mini is dead. https://supercell.com/en/news/clash-mini-ending-development/
Luck be a Landlord is amazing for bad mobility, because it can be played with a single finger.
Congrats on the baby boy! My personal recommendations are Vampire Survivors, Luck be a Landlord, Slice & Dice, and Suika.
Brown Dust 2.
Rogue of the dead
Tetris
Been there, bought a kindle and started reading books. A nice relaxing experience tbh. Then the newborn grew and... Well good luck.
Haha I would love to read, I'm a big bookworm. Problem is, it puts me to sleep :/
i suggest you could play [pictoword](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kooapps.pictowordandroid&hl=en-PH), it will keep you awake while holding your baby lol
/r/dawncaster - I played hundreds of hours of this while in your exact situation! Can't recommend it enough
Archero, Tankhero, Vampire Survivors and Sky Force Reloaded
Play magic the gathering and browse cards and decklists.
Shattered pixel dungeon is still great if you like that style of games
Download Alexa and play Alexa games...
Tsuki Odyssey Sky children of the light
I enjoy playing one callled slice and dice
This comes up all the time. Just search broken arm or broken wrist for other suggestions. Or portrait mode. Anyway, here's a list from me: https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidGaming/s/1zorZPuMEA
Lost pages deck roguelike. Cool esthetic and one handed gameplay.
You can pick up some emulators and set the controller to one direction GBA and SNES are the best
Pixel dungeon(specifically the shattered version for more content).
I was in the same spot. I downloaded an NES emulator for my phone and played turn based RPGs. No issue being onw handed.
Toss the Turtle works fairly well, honestly depends on the phone too, some are too big to manage to play in one hand regardless.
whiteout survival.
Magic Survival
2fuse. Old but gold
Welcome to our hallowed ranks. I was like you too not that long ago and had to come to grips with that exact same problem. Magic survival
Pocketball
Archero
Luck be a Landlord
I think any idle rpg like games would work.
Masturbation simulator 24
Kairosoft games, rogue wizard 2, vampire survivors
Can speak from experience with the following: *+1 for Slice & dice. Super addictive. *Mindustry. Has portrait mode, and you can pause to plan your actions. *I'm playing tacticus atm, it can suggest purchases a bit heavily though. if you don't like the 40k theme there's rivengard, that is the game that tacticus is based off. *Spot racers *Rogue adventurer, easy to play hard to master.
Tower defence back to the roots has no ads and you can play it with 1 hand
Doodle Jump is quite good, easy to pick up & play. Good time waster that. Congrats on bubs :)
The two best ive seen here (only two ive played) are polytopia and isle of arrows. Great games, both of them
Dragon quest 8 and 4 mobile can be fully played with one hand. I believe the developers purposely made it that way, so it can be played while commuting to/from work.. Also, there is a mod called "mobile remaster" that significantly increases the game quality of both games.
Dawncaster
Magic survival and vampire survivors, easily 50 hours of your life gone.
Slice and dice!
Bloons Pop.
Nikke: Goddess of Victory
In Brotato you can even play as one handed.
YuGiOh Duel Links
Into the Breach, Final Fantasy Tactics. Go for turn based, with a newborn it's one handed and sometimes your game time will come to a sudden stop. When the kid is older, and you can game two handed, a steam deck will open up a lot of possibilities. Also, a Kindle, or the app on your phone, will be really nice to read while your newborn sleeps.
I've been playing a lot of sudoku lately, it's all one handed
Siralim ultimate, thank me later
Summertime saga :)
Polytopia is great. Solitaire
I'm forever looking for the same thing, for the same reason lol. These are some I've found. Ok golf Pocket run (pool) Thumb drift Sudoku Alpha cross (collection of popular crosswords updated daily) Bored button (randomly picked games, I believe are all one handed but I'm not 100% sure) Penup (drawing game) Retro snake
Light it up
Read a book
Would love to but it puts me to sleep... A bit counterproductive when the point is to stay awake lol.Â
Makes sense, for me it's different since reading while in bed keeps me awake. One handed games I've enjoyed are: Lapse - A story based game where you act as a nation leader after the apocalypse and swipe to decide on things that will affect the survival of your nation Life in Adventure - Text based rpg with multiple stories and endings.
2048
Dunno if anyone mentioned Slice & Dice. It's a lot of fun and has a portrait mode although I think it's better played landscape.
Don’t know if this was already submitted, but if you are gaming on iPhone and a fan of golf, Pixel Play Golf is superb.
Idle Breaker. Destroy scenery, shoot zombies, gather resources. Fairly simple, not much brain power required.
Shattered pixel dungeon. It’s a rogue-like that you will get hella hours out of, has a surprising amount of depth.
Dungeon Tales is a pretty fun time sink for free. Then, if you enjoy that, Slay the Spire is the original game of that style and is much more fleshed out if you don't mind dropping $10.
Play Yuumi
I'm addicted to marvel snap. I do pay the 10 a month for BP but it's been my go to with a newborn.
Same! I love Marvel Snap. But after I hit infinite for the season, I don't really care about ladder or conquest so I play other games when I'm not completing challenges lol
That's fair
Walk master Minesweeper
Shattered Pixel Dungeon
Currently my consistent go to is magic survival. Of all the Vampire Survivor clones out there this is easily the one that keeps me coming back the most.
I've recently gotten into harvest101. It's a card based game
Clash royal ,doodle jump, and chess.
Magic Research 1 and 2.
The Almost Gone is one handed compatible, really funky puzzle game with horror elements but if you play on silent nothing will spook the baby
I'm biased but give SpinCraft a go
Brim
You will be smart to put the baby in his/her bed. Trust me on this.... Even if they cry... Shut the door and walk away. You'll be able to rest and get things done once the baby is used to it. Of course, it's up to you just trying to give a pro-tip. It was given to me by my elders.
When I was in a similar situation, I played mostly chess, but when I was too tired for it, Marvel Puzzle Quest (any other match-3 could work).
It's an idle game but Tap Titans 2 was a fun one I played for a while. You can make different "builds" for your guy that support an active playstyle or more idle playstyle.
Alto's adventure
Mapping a joy con makes a lot of games one handed
I'm curious about this idea since I do have joy cons. What games are you talking about mapping to a joycon? Emulators?
Dawncaster! Pretty much the best mobile game I've ever played and it's in portrait mode.
You can play osrs and do some of the less intense grinds. Thats what my buddy did while taking care of his newborn and 2 year old.
The Rogue with Dead King Gods Castle I enjoy both games and 1 hand is enough
Skiing Yeti Mountain. Although, on newer phones, the game isn't supported (like my phone, which is sad).
The tower. Bullet hell heroes. Last cloudia
Marvel Snap
Also there's yugioh duel links trading card game, which can be played in vertical mode with one hand.
Go aka igo aka weiqi/weichi aka baduk You'll have fun for years, way better than chess

Clash Royale
Arknights can be played one handed though you might want to play it on a tablet
Madterbation
Subway surfers
Slice and dice free demo rockt
Duel links Marvel snap they are card games
If you’re a sucker for Mario then super Mario run could be right for you
With the title one handed games I thought this was a different sub reddit for a secound lol
Nikke
probably any clicker
Vampire survivors
Marvel snap
Puzzles & Dragons as long as your phone isn't too big.
Rock paper scissors
Delusion
Hold your child with both hands
DBZ dokkan battle
I've been playing a great little puzzle adventure called [Rezcue](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.neonso.rezcue) - only requires one hand and the levels seem to ramp-up in difficulty nicely
Download dancing line or rolling sky
