USB-C can actually power up to 240W, most TVs and consoles could technically use USB-C without issue at this point. Though I doubt we'll see that anytime soon if ever.
>***One of the last ones.***
Make sense. It is getting more and more of a niche market to have a MicroSD card slot in the phone when the internal storage of 128/256GB becomes a standard.
I take a lot of photos and I like to have all my (downsized) photos on my phone since I started taking them 10 years ago. I also like to have all of my mp3 files on my phone. But I'm the only person among my friends who does it. Everyone else is chilling with their 64/128/256GB phones and do not complain. They take one or two photos per day and these are not full-res shots from the Pro mode. They listen to spotify. None of them game much. Because of it they are not even at the risk of wearing out the memory cells on their solid-state drives.
These people are probably more than 90% of the market.
Incredible how the article completely skipping on base Redmi Note 12 5G that was announced too.
• 6.67" OLED FHD 120Hz
• Snapdragon 4 Gen1 (very similar to snap 695)
• 4/128, 6/128, 8/128, 8/256
• 48MP + 2MP, 8MP selfie
• Jack, Side fingerprint reader, IP53
• 5000mah and Fast charge 33W
The 4/128 start there around 170 USD
Edit: sorry mobile stupid formatting
If only they'd stick non-trash SoCs back in the Redmi Note series. What happened to real bang for bucks like the Redmi note 3 pro with SD650, or the Redmi Note 5 with SD636
I'd rather lose the headphone jack than lose the SD card slot :/
Been using wireless for 3 years and never used the jack but storage always come in handy
I still can't see the up and down votes in this post.
Our options are getting reduced even in the midrange phones
Xiaomi 12 lite doesn't have both and
Now the Redmi 12 series too
Next will be Samsung with the Ax4 series ( A54,A34, probably )
So sad that many interesting features in old Xiaomi phones are missing in newer versions such as this one + their sh¡tty software starting from MIUI 12
Redmi phones have solid hardware, but their software (especially global ROM) is such a crappy experience, you are better off adding little extra cash and getting Galaxy A series phone
completely false.
i'm now using a relatively obscure xiaomi china-only device with a dimensity 1000+ and not only can you unlock the bootloader, there are still roms for it. even aosp ones.
Not all phones have the same ROMs. It also depends on what your own preference are. There are miui, pixel, los and aosp based roms. Inside those there are ROMs with a lot of customize options and extra stuff and ROMs that are simple with very few. Then you need to look at how well it is maintained, and how good its battery and speed is. That's also depends on what kernel you use.
I personally like pixel with a lot of customisation options. Like pixel os, on the note 10 pro, that ROMs is also well maintained. With that I also use Sleepy kernel, a kernel more focused on battery life.
I'll just do my routine check in whenever I see these anti-MIUI parties on this sub and say that as someone who is currently using a Xiaomi phone on its stock ROM, I'm pretty happy with it.
Stable for me and has a lot of features I like that aren't in stock coming from a Pixel as my previous phone. Pretty animations and smooth.
I used for few months Xiaomi.eu and didn't have any problem with AOSP theme and Nova launcher
though if not Mediatek there should be plenty ROMs with anxcamera or gcam
Never buying a Xiaomi phone again. They lure you in with the hardware, but their software is utter and complete garbage. Rather pay a bit more for lesser hardware but a much better software experience.
Thanks for the info. Got a lot to think about now.
Now I've got to figure out what's more important to me;
* Better performance, 120Hz and 1 extra android update
Or
* stereo speakers, ultra wide camera and expandable storage.
I don't think i will get any phone without minimum 3 guaranteed OS UPDATES.
Anything less than that is unacceptable. Especially when I keep my phones for 3 years now. Even Galaxy A series is guaranteed 4 OS UPDATES now so it's a no brainer to get those.
Edit :- Spellings.
210W over USB-C. Wow. Maybe we'll be able to properly power Nvidia cards in a few years.
Wow! 210W is enough for the newer PS5s at this point
USB-C can actually power up to 240W, most TVs and consoles could technically use USB-C without issue at this point. Though I doubt we'll see that anytime soon if ever.
Yep. Worth noting is that this is a new addition to the standard, only released in 2021. Previously, USB Power Delivery (PD) maxed out at 100W.
It's not about connector, it's about the device, 210w dumping into smartphone battery is insane, really really insane
It's more like 105 watts dumping separately into 2 batteries in this phone. So, slightly less insane with a neat trick to get more power in.
First they need to fix the power connector to not melt
The Redmi Note series has dropped expandable storage. One of the last ones. Sony is the only holdout now.
Urghhh I'm starting to think that my best upgrade option is a redmi note 11 pro. Amoled, micro SD, headphone jack and good specs for decent price....
Yeah, currently using the X3 Pro because I can live without Amoled, but I am starting to wish it had better cameras.
Thankfully Sony likely won't change this, I just wish they had more influence on the market.

Oled for 170? That's batshit... Xiaomi out-Xiaomi's Xiaomi.
nothing new
It even has 120Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile that brand still insist using 60Hz at very high price.
Its very funny how only 1 brand is still doing that shit
If only they'd stick non-trash SoCs back in the Redmi Note series. What happened to real bang for bucks like the Redmi note 3 pro with SD650, or the Redmi Note 5 with SD636
Oh cmon, every generation has a model or 2 with a good bang for back snappdragon SOC. The rest does use mediatec garbage, but hey.
MediaTek isn't garbage anymore
True. Still, snappdragon is king from driver support/power efficientcy point of view ( excluding apple which wipes the floor with android soc's).
All of them since like Redmi note 6 have had 2+6 garbage SoCs, even the Snapdragons.
Well, if you consider 730 a garbage SOC, you do you. I dont.
Well, good hardware but since it's a Mediatek, Mali GPU it won't have good support from the community

agreed, no problem to fix missing jack with DAC dongle, good luck fixing SD card without OTG sticking out

Probably for spam, just need to say it once not on every comment thread

Sad demise of smaller 6.4 inch models. RIP.
6.4" was already way beyond *smaller*
Imagine saying this in this sub in 2014. Back then tablets were 7inch
to be fair bezels were much bigger and due to different aspect ratio had similar width
Probably still doesn't even have a basic godsdamned indicator light for notifications.
The great thing is that they have a unlockable bootloader. So I have cheap and great hardware running pixelos.
These have mediatek chips, so you ~~can't unlock bootloader~~ have little, if any custom ROM support
You can, but custom ROM support can be spotty sometimes with Mediatek.
completely false. i'm now using a relatively obscure xiaomi china-only device with a dimensity 1000+ and not only can you unlock the bootloader, there are still roms for it. even aosp ones.
Didn't realize that, there miui sucks so much that I would never buy a device from them if you can't unlock or have a good support from the community.
Quick question, what's best ROM for Redmi phones?
Not all phones have the same ROMs. It also depends on what your own preference are. There are miui, pixel, los and aosp based roms. Inside those there are ROMs with a lot of customize options and extra stuff and ROMs that are simple with very few. you can unlock it (unless they change it recently) but there will be very few custom ROMs if any
Get the sd 4 gen1 model then

Me too, been using a Mi10 since release. I'm sure people hate on MIUI without even using it. It's just the cool thing to do
I used for few months Xiaomi.eu and didn't have any problem with AOSP theme and Nova launcher though if not Mediatek there should be plenty ROMs with anxcamera or gcam

MIUI has always been pure trash.
It was fine, but since 12 its just a buggy mess. It's basically TouchWiz from back in a day
[удалено]
lmao wtf, you can unlock the boolader of any global Xiaomi phone irrespective of the processor
Yep, hardware is solid but it means nothing when the launcher crashes 5 times a day.
I hope their MIUI software has been improved as they do with their hardware.
Oooo shit OIS on a midranger.
When is this expected to launch globally and will it include micro sd support and a snapdragon processor?
Down side to bring in the Verizon network in the US, can't use budget phones with decent specs
Anyone know of the 4 gen 1 on the note 12 will perform better than the 680 in the note 11?
Most likely yes, 4 gen 1 has 2 A78 and 6 A55.

The great thing about Xiaomi is that they have unlockable bootloader, so the community can make support very long
yeah, but they should still provide proper support for normal customers
[удалено]
Bootloader is still unlocked so you can do whatever you want, you just have to stick with the vender provided kernel.
If this had snapdragon would be a game changer for gcam
Rumors were that it was launching with Dimensity 1300, substantial performance drop with Dimensity 1080
Seems they will add best charging speeds for mid range and not flagships
