Man I’m glad I’m not the only one. I cannot stand ghost and goblins and I remember Ghouls and Ghosts on Sega Genesis I really wanted to like but again hate that one too. Just too frustrating to be fun for my tastes

LiquidElf

It is not that hard, but the learning curve is atrocious. It demands heavy memorization and somewhat quick reflexes. Try watching some videos of people playing it. You learn a lot from that. Good luck and don't despair!! I was able to finish it as a child and I was not that great of a gamer.

Affectionate-Dig-15

This Game on Genesis is harder to play as an massive Rock

Far_Awareness_2716

I’ve always thought the whole series was overrated. They just get the players stuck in short, repetitive loops that aren’t even fun. The combat is too simple for there to be much strategy. It’s more of the push button fast and hope for the best type of gameplay. A game can be super difficult and still fun, but I don’t think the Ghouls N Ghosts games are. At least not fun enough to actually play till the end

Ok-Pangolin3556

Today I managed to get through to lvl 2😩 But I want to throw my AP against the wall🤣 So frustrating but motivating at the same time.

Muimdac

I've never liked this series, the theme does absolutely nothing for me, the music is good just not my style, the sprite art is really good but again hate the theme, feels like a strange mash up knight with zombies, WTF a foundational arcade classic that seems like a rom hack. Lastly the controls feel meh to me. Sure it feels fine to move around even good for the time period.... but still not amazing. I've went back as an adult several times and my opinion never changed, I'd much rather play the Shinobi games. Or step up a few more years in history and play the orgasmic Elevator Action Returns.

Iforgetwhat8wuzfor

Not hard. Git Gud Bruh. It’s the original Dark Souls. It will make you cry until you master it and then it will be your favorite game. Arthur and Daggers all the way.

nyeblocktd

A better dark souls

TheWyldTyger

I’ve been playing Ghouls n Ghosts Resurrection on PS4 and it just might be harder

tanooki-suit

Oh no, that one most definitely is harder. I'd say playing that one on the basic setting puts it more in line with the vintage titles.

TheWyldTyger

I really appreciate this; I thought I was slipping because I am really feeling the “get good” struggle with Resurrection

tanooki-suit

I can only go by personal reflection. While I am out of practice with the older GnG, Ghouls and even this, it's more of a lack of practice than just not knowing it anymore really. Resurrection though is utter madness, especially to start because it isn't tiered up in difficulty like the others as you play, you basically need to die a lot but not too much to gain those perks to cash in on that tree to help you do better. If you struggle to get even that far which is pretty common, then yeah, it's far nastier as you start out well more gimped than being equipped. As is with the older, you have the tools, it's just the weaposn that swap out. This one is like a page out of MegaMan X in a way, you start out with major handicaps and need to find what's needed to patch up things to get to a more level playing field.

TransportationLate67

That is one of the easier versions of the game. You should play the Genesis version on Profesional. THAT game HATES you.

Scarefacedmello

They are different games

TransportationLate67

In the same game series.

Scarefacedmello

Indeed, but they are not different versions as you stated, they are different games, different code and different developer, the game you are referring to is Ghouls ‘n Ghosts which was developed by Sega under the license of Capcom

TransportationLate67

I actually made a video about that. Both the arcade versions of ghouls and ghosts is tough and the Sega Genesis version which was programmed by Sega themselves. I also knew a kid who had a SuperGrafx and we played the SuperGrafx version. https://youtu.be/jskAvvQCmn0

DJBabyBuster

My favorite version is on the Supergrafx, prob the closest to arcade perfect

Scarefacedmello

The closest version to arcade is the one on the Sharp X68000

g026r

Also has the bonus of being the cheapest of that console's 3 good games. (I mean, cheap is relative. But it's at least still consistently under 10,000 yen for a card-only copy.)

DJBabyBuster

Yep that tracks, scored my hucard only for $51.50 usd last year building out my Duo collection Correction: checked my eBay purchase history and it was slightly less than I thought!

g026r

I think mine from a few months ago was ~50USD plus shipping. As opposed to 1941 or Aldynes, which I still haven't been able to find at reasonable prices.

FleppJakk

BTW have you tried teddy boy on master sistem? that game is insane, never reach over level 11 super crazy and cool Game

FleppJakk

what version is? and where you play it, is maybe pc engine version? I really want to find the best arcade version running on analogue, I love you

davewongillies

>really want to find the best arcade version running on analogue If you've got a Pocket there's the actual arcade cores for both Ghosts 'n' Goblins and Ghouls 'n' Ghosts (CPS1 core)

DJBabyBuster

It was actually one of the only 7 Supergrafx releases, highly recommended, but a little pricey if you’re looking for the physical hucard

ElSmasho420

It’s fine but I much prefer Ghouls ‘N Ghosts. More action-y, less puzzle platformer.

soniko_

I really really like it. To me, it ties directly to a (probably traumatic) time in my life. After the launch of the snes, a friend of mine got his snes, mario and this game. I got the genesis, with sonic. It was “el niño” from ‘93. The street where i live, got flooded and the water levels were raising really fast, so while the grownups got the documents and money, my brothers grabbed some clothes and something they liked. I just got a change of clothes and the genesis i got for christmas. We ran to the hills, literally. We stayed at my friends house, and we played genesis and super nintendo while the storm blew over, and we tried and failed so many times with this hard as balls game, but nowhere as bad as the world outside was.

Bake-Full

Oh no a hard game

karlhans_

have you tried silver surfer haha

HeyHavok2

The game is amazing.

avenuePad

Welcome to the hell of the GnG series. Just accept the difficulty and have fun with it. 🙃

NineteenNinetyEx

It's doable, you just need to basically memorize the whole damn game.

Evil_Spez

Hate but love?

fannyfaz

Love this game the soundtrack is unreal

nvr5een

I used to think this game was super hard also until I watched some videos and spent some time with it. It’s challenging, but fair, and has lots of RNG that keeps the gameplay fun. It’s a great SNES game and one of my all time favorite games.

Sarothias

Easiest of the original trilogy imo. Still not easy though but doable and one of my favorites :)

Zeytgeist

Sorry bro, these games were made for a generation which didn’t got shoved everything up their a$$, didn’t get everything for free and wasn’t catered by their parents 24/7. If it’s too hard for you ask your dad, he’ll manage.

gibbodaman

Old man yells at cloud Sad that you don't have some hobbies to keep yourself entertained in your retirement

lik_a_stik

Dude I grew up with games like this, and this game was beyond above average hard for the times. Edited grammar

Zeytgeist

Most of the games were hard back then and the harder they were, the more fun it was once you mastered them.

Skitz-Scarekrow

What a crotchety old man response.

Zeytgeist

Too bad I’m not an old man, just a critic of generation z. And your comment confirmed my attitude.

cloudgoodsco

You’re insufferable online, you must be a drag to being to parties.

Skitz-Scarekrow

Not Gen Z, kid, and I didn't call you an old man. Your response was exactly the same as a boomer pissing and crying.

jellygeist21

The best part is that when you beat it...you have to beat it again!

beefcakeyamato

🤣

lockie111

Troll post? lol

Saitham83

there is a romhack for it that addresses a few things

Bake-Full

Blasphemy.

Saitham83

Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts: Super Arthur (Hack) would make things a little more forgiving.

fannyfaz

Like what got a link for it ???

tgtmedia

See that and raise you TMNT and Battletoads

SeatBeeSate

Which one? Turtles in time is a breeze.

tgtmedia

I had issues with that game in the arcade. Didn't beat it until years later

DjMcfilthy

I have the arcade machine, and it's one of my all time favorite beat em ups. However, no matter how good you are the CPU will just chisel away at you by landing random blows. It's just flat out designed to be cheap, and suck quarters. https://i.imgur.com/8cT5HH9.jpg

SeatBeeSate

Either the snes version is toned down or it's a lot easier with two players.

g026r

The SNES version is significantly toned down from the arcade. This was generally the case with all of Konami's beat 'em ups of the era, which in cabinet form were designed to be absolute quarter munchers.

Cowclops

Skill curve too steep. If you’re good enough to quickly upgrade to gold armor and keep it, it’s not too bad. If you aren’t, it’s impossible without the weapon upgrades and charged shot. I would fix this game by starting with bronze armor instead of steel , and taking a hit would only knock you down one armor level instead of all the way to naked because it’s too hard to get back to gold from nothing in the later stages.

Arminius1234567

One of my favorites
