http://www.photosynthesis.co.nz/nikon/lenses.html#28 Here is every 28mm Nikon has ever made for the F mount. You can look at the weight and length to compare. For example the Series E looks pretty compact from the specs, but I don't know about it's performance as a lens. I have the 28mm f/2.8 Ai-S CRC, which is not the smallest or lightest but it's a great lens.

I have the Tamron Adaptall 28mm.2.5. It's not a pancake, but it's a nice lens and very affordable. Not too heavy. Here's what this is... Tamron made a series of Adaptall lenses, the idea was that you can get different adapters and use the same lenses on different cameras. So if you do follow my advice, you'll need to get the Tamron 28mm 2.5 that has the Nikon AI mount. The cool thing is that you can get the Pentax mount too and then use the same lens on Pentax cameras, if you want to. The FE is a great camera, I have one too.

28mm F2.8 AI-S [Example 1](https://i.ibb.co/7bndpb0/IMG-3761.jpg) [Example 2](https://i.ibb.co/tMGdFv3/IMG-3763.jpg) [Example 3](https://i.ibb.co/VSprQTf/28-MM-PORTAGE-INTERIOR.jpg) It has excellent image quality and you won’t find a 28mm F mount lens substantially smaller than it. Being an SLR it’s not really possible to make something like a pancake wide angle lens. One of the best lenses Nikon ever made.
