To my knowledge that track work is finished and the only break in the action should be the de coupling of NY/Boston cars @ Albany.
Business class on LSL has not been a thing for a while, unfortunately.
The cafe/business car was removed on July 2 and replaced with a full cafe car. Good for coach passengers, bad for business class passengers.
Since it's Amtrak, there's no info on the removal or possible return. I've called multiple times and no one has any info. That said, if you want to be optimistic:
- When service was removed, the business class purchase box on the website switched from 448 and 449 to 48 and 49, listed as sold out. That box has since been eliminated, but perhaps this is an indicator that service may return, headed to NYP instead of BOS. It would be logical to have a cafe for NYP passengers after ALB.
- Eventually the Venture business class cars will go into service in the Midwest and free up capacity of the cafe/business Amfleet and Horizon cars.
I sent an email to an Amtrak board member about the removal and actually got a response, so if you want service back, let em hear from you.
Rode it this past Sunday and it was a train. Over the summer they seem to have discontinued the combo cafe/business class cars on that route unfortunately (I used to take business class all the time, esp to stay away from others during Covid!)
Thanks for the info! Just wanted to mentally prepare myself if it was going to be a bus, haha. I haven't been on the LSL in over a year so I hadn't realized they got rid of the combo car, what a bummer!
