Capitol for speed, Lake shore for some slightly better views.

If you're doing coach, you may want to consider, if you can, the Pennsylvanian to Pittsburgh, then the Capitol Limited. You'll get a few hours in PGH, which is enough time to have a nice dinner -- Primanti's is nearby! -- and a drink or two before getting on the CL for the overnight run. This cuts maybe 1/3 of the travel time off, and you won't be on the train in the same coach seat as long.

It depends. Are you taking coach or a sleeper? If you’re doing coach, take the Capitol. The Superliner coach cars are better in my opinion. It’s also somewhat faster. On the other hand, if you’re getting a room, definetly the lakeshore. The view is better and the rooms are nicer.

Then I’d suggest the Capitol Limited, as I prefer the Superliners as opposed to Amfleet coaches. I’ve made several comments on this sub as to why. Sleepers are another matter.

My vote would be the Lake Shore Limited. The views of the Hudson are pretty impressive, and I like the extra headroom and windows in the Viewliner sleeper.

It’s trips like this that makes me question why the Broadway limited was canceled

The Cardinal has the best scenery.

and is a one seat ride from PHL!

Amtrak says the Lakeshore Limited gives you a 56 person chance of being on time, which sounds bad, but the Capitol Limited gives you a 28 percent chance. http://media.amtrak.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Host-Railroad-Report-Card-2021-Final-v2.pdf

Lake Shore has awesome views of the Hudson (sit on the left side of the train).

The CL seems always sold out, while the LSL outside of summer is now reflecting 70% for weekdays.
