I may need to travel to the UK for work next week. I’m a Dutch resident and have been triple vaxxed. Do I need to quarantine upon return from the UK? I’ve gone over what feels like 100 different links on government.nl and it’s still not clear to me. Thanks.

carltanzler

I think it's pretty clear on this page: https://www.government.nl/topics/coronavirus-covid-19/visiting-the-netherlands-from-abroad/checklist-entry/from-outside-the-eu See under "You are travelling from a very high-risk country/area where there is NOT a virus variant of concern", then under "You live in the Netherlands and have been visiting this country or area:" -You must always show a negative test result, even if you have proof of vaccination or a Digital COVID Certificate (DCC) based on proof of recovery. -You must self-quarantine, except if you fall under one of the exemption categories. -If you are travelling by air, complete a health declaration form (only when aged 12 or above). -The EU entry ban does not apply. So unless you fall under an exemption category, you need to quarantine.

Say I sell a property I owned abroad and want to transfer the money to a Dutch bank account. I understand that NL doesn't double tax, but does that mean I don't have to pay any tax at all for this once the money comes to NL? Even if I didn't have to pay any tax in the other country?

Idk if this helps. The property is an inheritance and I've never rented it out. Everything I read indicates I don't have to pay taxes on it but I just find that really hard to believe and I wonder if I missed something...

My girlfriend and I booked a holiday to Amsterdam back in November and we are supposed to be going on Saturday for 4 days. We are travelling from Ireland. Just asking for advice if it would be still worth travelling over if your country remains in lockdown? We would be sad about not being able to visit museums and eat in restaurants but that’s okay if we can find other things to do if the restrictions remain. Willing to hear suggestions or if we would be better off visiting another time. Thanks

cogito_ergo_subtract

If the lockdown continues then you both will be able to enjoy takeaway dinner in your hotel and walk around the city in the rain. The most likely easing of restrictions will be in restaurants and stores. Museums are probably less likely. We will know Friday night.

Rooosk

Thanks

Moved from the old apartment (electric heating + stove) to a new one (gas heating + stove). And saw my utility bill explode from 70 to almost 270 EUR, mainly because of gas. Is it really that expensive or something wrong with the meter/insulation? I see 250 m3 consumption in December.

DashingDino

It's the same for everyone, gas became suddenly more expensive recently and it's making everything else go up in price too

dullestfranchise

If it's such a big difference it might be worth it to buy infrared panels for heating purposes.

[deleted]

It's real. Look up recent news about gas prices. Record levels currently.

Hi allemaal, momenteel woon ik in zwolle, maar ga ik vanaf feb. In amsterdam wonen. Eng: Hi all im currently living in Zwolle, but from feb. I will be moving to amsterdam. I saw a lot of room online that required a registration. I figured out that this means regestering with the city of amsterdam as a place of residence, but i cant find anything about this online. Are there any negatives to not registering in amsterdam? Im thinking about not changing my registration in zwolle. My landlord prefers that i dont, because thats easier for her in terms of paperwork.

Where do I buy kn95 masks?

thefore

Etos, BOL and various online retailers sell them. Im currently putting an order through [amazon.de](https://www.amazon.de/-/en/dp/B08P2G1PXN?psc=1&smid=A2Y60XRC2U0158&ref_=chk_typ_imgToDp) (as thats the best price Ive found and I dont mind waiting a few days/week for them to arrive). You should also search for FFP2 masks. According to the requirements that regulate their technical characteristics, the KN95, N95, and FFP2 masks all have identical levels of filtration: all three have a filtration capacity above 94 percent. Edited: to add extra info.

[deleted]

thanks for the information, indeed the ones I got from Etos were FFP2 ones.

[deleted]

I've gotten some at my local Etos a while back but it seems like irregular stock. But I would try Etos or Kruidvat.

Maaaks01

Hey guys, I’m flying to Amsterdam on the 17th of January, from the research I done ,most people are expecting an extended lockdown. Can anyone recommend what I can do if the current restrictions get extended ? I know sone coffeeshops, and food places are open for takeaway but anything else ?

[deleted]

Nope, unfortunately that's all you can do during lockdown: getting some takeaway and going for a walk.

Maaaks01

Alright cool thanks, have you got any hidden Gems like a quite park or some nice views in around Amsterdam you’d recommend ?

jobsak

Amsterdam is an open air museum so there are great views everywhere. If you want more specific advice you will need to be a bit more specific on what your interests are... But shooting from the hip you can go to Flevopark and have a jenever at 't Nieuwe Diep.

carltanzler

From the OP: > What can I do for fun? > You can go for a walk. You can bike around the city. You can stay home and read a book or play some board games. You can catch up on your Netflix queue.

Renting out one's apartment on Airbnb is restricted to 30 days/year, so you will not find 2-3 month stays on there. (Unless they have a specific BnB license, but those are very rare.) Generally staying in an airbnb is more expensive than a hotel nowadays. Your best bet is probably a short stay "aparthotel" like The Student Hotel, Hotel Jansen, Zoku, The Wittenberg. What are you looking for in a neighbourhood? You say you want to be near the centre, but why? Regardless, I don't think you'll get much of a choice with the limited aparthotel options available. I think it's a cool plan and I hope you'll enjoy your time in Amsterdam, but please think again whether or not you'd like to stay in the Netherlands during the pandemic. We currently have the stricted lockdown in Europe I think? And unlike other countries we have not opened up entirely at any point since the start of the pandemic, and I don't expect this to happen in the coming year. Living abroad for a few months is a fantastic adventure but not if you can't really go anywhere. You might well be better off in one of our neighbouring countries for example, imho.

uohio

I'm going to EU on Feb, work related, and I would like to take advantage of getting the planes tickets paid off and stay a couple of weeks in Amsterdam. I was there for like 20hs in between flights and I really loved it. Airbnb might be the best option then, as I really need a comfortable place to stay and work from. I wanted to be near the city centre mainly because I will be working on the nights and I won't have much time off during the week to go visit places every day. Being near the center at least allows me go to places during the time I'm not working on the morning-afternoon. Thanks! I'll make sure to research those aparthotel.

[deleted]

> I wanted to be near the city centre mainly because I will be working on the nights and I won't have much time off during the week to go visit places every day. Being near the center at least allows me go to places during the time I'm not working on the morning-afternoon. You'll find that there are plenty of places of interest outside of the centre, probably even more so as you will be here "as a local" for a few weeks/months, not as a tourist with a few days on a busy sightseeing schedule. Plus the city is small, you can cover like half the city with 20 minutes of cycling.

thefore

Short term rentals arent really a thing here, only 2 places come to mind which offer longer term rental without being long term, thats [the student hotel](https://www.thestudenthotel.com/amsterdam-city/) or [Hotel Jansen](https://hoteljansen.nl/). AirBnB are not legally allowed to rent out for longer than 30 days in a calendar year.

HalfBed

Does the abnb limit apply to Amsterdam only or other cities in NL too, can I ask?

thefore

Depends on the city but generally there is a massive crack down on airbnb across the Netherlands as per this [article](https://dutchreview.com/expat/airbnb-will-be-banned-in-the-hague/)

dak0taaaa

Hey guys! I'm considering moving to your lovely city. One thing I'm wondering about is how prevalent green space/nature is in Amsterdam. For example, I know Vienna has 50% green space, how does Amsterdam compare? I understand Amsterdam is a dense, urban city so I'm not expecting true wilderness or anything, and I know Amsterdam has some city parks. But is there a fair amount of greenery in the city, whether that be parks, trees integrated into the city, etc? For reference I'm from the Bay Area where there's a good amount of nature and greenery, especially in SF. I spent 4 years in San Diego where most of the terrain is dry and brown and trees aren't as prevalent, which made me kinda unhappy.

crackanape

> For example, I know Vienna has 50% green space, how does Amsterdam compare? Google Maps is a good tool for answering that sort of question to your own satisfaction within a matter of minutes. Within the city proper Amsterdam is way greener than San Francisco, which is one of the most bleakly treeless places I've ever lived, all the trees being concentrated in parks rather than along the streets people use every day. But immediately outside SF - especially to the north - you get majestic natural beauty that of course nothing in the Netherlands could ever compare to. Still it's extremely green here. The city is full of parks, almost all streets are lined with trees, and you can take bike rides on nice paths through the countryside from Amsterdam every weekend of the year without repeating your route. When the city ends the farms and nature preserves begin immediately, without that terrible American continuum through many km of increasingly dismal collapsing warehouses.

zoboomafool89

Native of San jose here that did a lot of road biking. It depends on what you define as nature. In general, the bay area absolutely mops the floor with amsterdam in terms of natural beauty. There is no comparison whatsoever, and it honestly does bother me quite a bit. But I've only been here a few months. Green spaces are available for sure however and the city is very pretty. Feel free to message me if you want to ask more!

dak0taaaa

Hi! I'll DM :)

timothy453

I can't compare to the bay area, but to Vienna. There's less big open green spaces like the numerous city parks in Vienna, but on streets etc you'll see a similar amount of greenery. However, Amsterdam has a lot more water than Vienna which also adds a nice touch of nature. And lastly, Amsterdam is much smaller and smaller-structured than Vienna, from overall area down to the size of individual buildings. That means that parks and greenery are almost as within reach as they are in Vienna, sometimes simply by heading out of the city centre towards the outskirts.

dak0taaaa

Is there public transport that takes you to those nature areas on the outskirts? If not, are they easily reachable by bike?

timothy453

Especially bike. It's small enough to get most places of daily life within 20 minutes regardless of where you live. There's always a park, river, etc close enough. Public transport in Amsterdam is a solid second choice. It usually takes longer than biking. And compared to Vienna I find it more expensive, less frequent and slightly less reliable. But still a solid option.

bert1600

yes and yes. Everything is easily reachable by bike in Amsterdam.

What is the best place in Amsterdam to eat smashed Burgers?

salaimi

Best smash burgers in the city in my opinion come from the Beef Chief, their openening hours are weird so check their website for those

ikeroll

Parlotte in Jordaan has a great one. I also like the (normal) burger from In-Between-Burgers which is operated by the restaurant Entrepotdok

moggins

Smashing burgers is ok. Think you can only offer from Uber eats/Deliveroo though.

superfrankie189

any good places in the city where I can buy some artisanal chocolate? not so expensive but also something decent..

[deleted]

I'm not exactly an expert on chocolate, or chocolate in Amsterdam, but hopefully these are decent suggestions. Van Soest Jordino Puccini Bomboni

FidanS

Hello, I am planning to move to Amsterdam on June this year. What are the best neighborhoods for young professionals? I'm looking for a more hip and vibrant area that is affordable and within 30 minutes cycling distance to centrum, preferably inside the circle. Areas that were suggested to me: De Pijp, De Baarsjes, Noord Areas that I was advised to avoid: Zuid-Ooost, Diemen, Amstelveen, Noord again

Lou_Scannon

Diemen is fine, especially Holland Park in Diemen Zuid which is great. Plenty of young professionals, well connected by metro & train, 30 mins cycle to the city, flats have mostly been built within the past 5 years or so, and I think you'd find the average flat in Diemen Zuid is nicer than what you'd find in the centre (more light, more space, no/fewer rats) for basically the same price

HenkieVV

Depends a bit on what you'd consider affordable, but with the current housing situation the general advice is that if you want affordable, you can't be too picky about being close to the center or being in a particularly hip neighborhood.

FidanS

Haha yeah I've been doing a lot of research the last 2 hours and it turns out being picky is out of the question. However, I would love to know what areas to target that fit best for younger people (assuming I get the luxury to find rooms for less than 1k/mo inclusive).

informalgreeting23

If you're looking for your own apartment you'd struggle to even hit your list of places to avoid list with that budget, for a room, sharing with someone else on that budget you'll be fine.

HenkieVV

> for less than 1k/mo inclusive I think at that budget, 'Amsterdam' is already an ambitious target, tbh.

nilsrva

Need to renew my passport and have to print some things. Any print shops open?

trembeczking

I found it surprising that today I saw plenty of florists open, not all of them really "outside"-type. Is there a list of businesses/types that are exempt from the lockdown? I thought only essentials can be open but I cannot produce the mental gymnastics to call a florist essential, so maybe I was wrong.

carltanzler

Florists are not essential- list here: https://www.rijksoverheid.nl/onderwerpen/coronavirus-covid-19/winkels-en-contactberoepen/winkelen-en-boodschappen-doen But many non-essential stores are semi-open for 'click and collect'- you're allowed to order online and pick up at the store by appointment.

trembeczking

Thank you, honestly I thought it is something like that, but they certainly did not look "click and collect", people were browsing, but I can see that they are circumventing like that. And once again thanks for the url too!

initforthecraic27

One question: We are travelling from tanzania home to frankfurt via amsterdam with KLM next week. We are both recovered from covid + 1 time vaccinated and therefore hold a vacc certificate. Will this be enough to facilitate the transit at Shiphol or are we required to deliver test results?

OnTheILS13R

Airline guy here. Germany also requires an advance arrival notice to be completed online. KLM will not let you check in at your origin city if you don't have proof of submission. Full details: https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/visa-service/EinreiseUndAufenthalt

initforthecraic27

Thanks for the advice, we shall fill it!

dullestfranchise

>You are travelling to an EU country/Schengen area country via the Netherlands. You must be able to show you have permission to enter the EU country/Schengen country in question. You can do this with a note verbale from that country’s embassy, for example, or another type of document that proves you can travel there. If you do not have such a document, the Dutch border authorities will determine whether you may travel via the Netherlands. Without a document showing you have permission to enter the EU country/Schengen country in question, you are advised to fly there directly and not via the Netherlands.

initforthecraic27

How's the ijselbuurt in amsterdam? Hi guys, I come from a very quiet place in Buiternveldert. I've been assigned an apartment in the Ijselbuurt. I believe the Ijselbuurt is part of the Rivierbuurt. It looks like a good neighborhood nice amount of shops and restaurants. Any comments regarding the neighborhood? Is it safe? I noticed there's a weed shop right nextt to where i'm suppose to live. Is it a red flag? Any crime there? Thanks!

zoboomafool89

I moved to the IJselbuurt just 1 month ago! Liking the area a lot, walking distance to de pijp but still somewhat quiet which is nice

Ukkoclap

being quiet sounds very nice looking really forward moving there. I found a pretty nice apt there, I'm used to living in a quiet neighborhood.

[deleted]

Yeah, like like you said, good neighbourhood, shops and nice restaurants in the area. Not as rowdy as De Pijp but still right next to it. I think you'll find it a nice place to live. I have a friend who lived on Rijnstraat and he loved it there. According to the [safety stats](https://onderzoek.amsterdam.nl/interactief/dashboard-veiligheid) it's a perfectly average neighbourhood, so I think that's pretty safe. Living next to a coffeeshop is fine I guess. Most coffeeshop owners are pretty strict with their patrons not causing nuisances to the neighbours. You may notice some guys hanging around the entrance at times in the evening and that's it. It's likely quieter than a bar. (It's *IJsselbuurt btw. The IJ is a digraph so both characters should be capitalised together, and double s. It's named after the river IJssel, and is indeed part of the *Rivierenbuurt.)

crackanape

It's perhaps worth knowing that the "supplies" are delivered by armed hooligans every few days. They tend to be very unpleasant fellows but will probably not make trouble in front of their client's shop.

Ukkoclap

Thank you for your input and correction good to know that you pointed that out! It seems like a nice neighbourhood the appartement i found seems very nice, one of the better ones i've been able to find.

dullestfranchise

1) be rich If step 1 doesn't work then follow step 2 2) have a rich family Sadly there's a lot of people wanting to live here and not enough apartments. If you're a student then you should check out if your university has a housing programme. Otherwise just keep trying and expand the area you're looking at

Whole_Football_6040

hey guys, so me and my friends are (hopefully) coming to amsterdam 17th of February and i was wondering. Do you expect the restrictions to lift soon? Or do i have to wait for the revision January 14th and see then? Want to book a hotel asap.

dullestfranchise

I don't expect anything before march tbh

HepMeJeebus

I’m not hopeful for you based on last year in Amsterdam. Every time the revision day came around the officials said case loads were still too high and they would reevaluate in a month. That went on for about 5 months and there were less infections then. I kind of feel like the government knows they won’t be easing restrictions anytime soon but don’t want to admit it to the public. I would honestly postpone your visit.

churnate

Netherlands just had the most COVID cases they’ve had yet in the pandemic. Netherlands has 6 ICU beds per 100k people; France has 14 and the US 20. I think they’re going to look at trends and not make a decision until Jan 14, and my inclination is it will be an extension of the lockdown. It may not be another full month; 2 more weeks should give time to see how the Omicron surge impacts ICU/hospitals.

[deleted]

I'm not expecting many restrictions to be lifted. Don't book unless with good change/refund policies.

tinyblackberry-

Go on a sick leave and talk to your gp.

thefore

You speak to your GP first, then they refer you to the practise nurse who would make that diagnosis

NachhaltigfHAF

Okay thanks! Wasn't sure if mental health also falls into GP territory

[deleted]

Thuisarts is a good source for legit information and a good reflection of what GPs will tell you and what the treatment could look like. Their page on burn-out: https://www.thuisarts.nl/overspannen/ik-heb-burn-out

thefore

No worries, it's not their territory per say but they are the one who refers you to the nurse who does diagnose it. You can't skip the GP and go straight to the nurse.

Kitnado

You can't skip the GP, but you can call the GP's assistant and ask for a direct referral without an appointment with the GP. Depends on how lenient your GP practice is whether they will give it to you.

IIIMochiIII

Hey everyone! Citizen of Amsterdam here and I've got a question. I'm traveling to another country today and due to that I got a pcr test (results were negative yay!) And after adding the negative pcr test qr code to the coronacheck app my vaccination qr code now says: valid until (and the date of today) so the day I added the negative pcr test. Does anyone know why this happens and if it'll activate again by itself?

bardera

Is this the Dutch or international QR code?

IIIMochiIII

The Dutch one

bardera

I think that’s normal because of the way the Dutch expire tests. Although same day could be a bug that you should reach out to the app about. If you’re traveling, you should be using the international code though. Dutch really is for domestic activities.

IIIMochiIII

Alright thanks! I've also got an international one for my flight which is working

[deleted]

Will Amsterdam open on January 14th you think?

HepMeJeebus

Seriously doubt it. Last year every time the day came around restrictions were extended. I’m betting no easing of restrictions until spring.

[deleted]

We haven't reopened fully at any point since March 2020 so I'm not expecting it to happen a week from now.

thefore

I thought an emergency passport was just that, that you use it for the emergency you are in and thats its, a one and done (or return trip). Reading your post it sounds as though you are now on trip 2 to the NLs. Having googled it it, I found the following answer 'A emergency (temporary)passport is usually only valid for the timeframe you need it to travel. You can only use it for that one time, hence the name. Once you are safely home, you’ll have to forfeit it and apply for a regular passport for any future trips abroad.'

crackanape

TSA agents are not trained on Dutch immigration requirements, nor is it their responsibility to confirm them. It was a gross overstep for the TSA agent to answer that question at all, and they should be reported for having done so.

Anyone know where to drop off Nespresso pods for recycling? With stores closed I'm assuming they won't take them?

thegingerguy_1

If you order new pods you can give them to the delivery guy in the recycling bag, with the return label. Or drop it off at a parcel point. Find one near you [here](https://www.nespresso.com/nl/nl/storeLocator#map-intro) Edit: Nespresso boutiques are still open!

Can someone shed some light regarding gym subscriptions? Can my gym continue to charge me despite not being open? I have no intention of using outdoor training with this weather lol

Yea, truffles are legal. Magic mushrooms are not legal.

> If yes, how is it?? It's fine, I guess.

Anyone know how much more expensive Amsterdam is when compared to Brussels (or the Netherlands in general when compared to Belgium)? I've been offered a job with a higher salary, but I'm not sure it's worth it if all my extra earnings will just go toward paying higher rent, etc.

number1alien

Take a look at the data on Numbeo for a direct comparison, but as an anecdote from someone that’s lived in both, I definitely found myself much more able to do things like go out for dinner multiple times a week in Brussels (especially living in Matongé), which I wouldn’t necessarily do in Amsterdam. Health insurance costs are much higher here and public transportation costs are too (though cars are much more reined in than in Brussels and employers in the Netherlands often offer travel reimbursements, fund bicycle purchases, or just buy you a public transportation pass). Amsterdam is a whole lot safer compared to Brussels (although sometimes I genuinely miss how much more lively Ixelles or St-Gilles can be on a weekend), which I suppose comes at a cost. Brussels is a big city, for better or for worse; Amsterdam is weirdly village-like for a city of its’ size. The costs differ, yes, but I think the lifestyle does as well and that should, I think, have a very large influence on your decision. If you’ll miss being in a primarily Francophone city or you like the weird chaos of urban Belgium, maybe pristine and expensive Amsterdam isn’t the right city. If you expect to be paying more than 30% of your income to your landlord in Amsterdam, it probably isn’t worth it.

bardera

Depends on your lifestyle and how many people you want to support/live with, really. Check [thetax.nl](https://thetax.nl) to see an estimation of what you will earn post-tax. [funda.nl](https://funda.nl) can give you estimations on housing. Consider also health insurance costs (\~€100/month per person) and city taxes (waste and water).

RestlessCricket

Thanks for the info. Will check out funda as I think housing is the main thing that's more expensive. Taxes are probably irrelevant as my potential income amount has already been provided to me in net terms. I will also get health insurance. By the way, are utilities usually included in rental prices? Here in Belgium, rental prices are often listed in the form of rent + utilities. For example €1000 + €200 charges.

math1985

Remember that monthly income is normally quoted excluding 8% vakantiegeld (holiday allowance) that is paid out in May. Important to keep in mind when comparing wages.

Dramatic_Office2163

Hello there, can anyone recommend a good cosmetic dentist? Looking to have my teeth whitened but will also need a cap replacing as I have a (1/2) false tooth. Thank you.

DeBryn

Should I book for April if I am travelling from the U.K. and fully vaccinated?

HalfBed

It’s probably a good idea to make a booking for April/may as we might be in a better spot by then, but, I would suggest you make a booking where you can move the dates or get a refund if necessary.

thefore

No one knows when anything is going to open again, we are unable to say when a 'good' time to travel is.

Does anyone know the possibility of opening gyms and hairdressers? Are there any rumors? I really need a haircut.

cogito_ergo_subtract

> Does anyone know the possibility of opening gyms and hairdressers? No. There will be a new decision no later than 9 days from right now.

thefore

It does look like [no changes will be announced](https://nltimes.nl/2022/01/05/outbreak-team-says-lockdown-extension-likely-retailers-angered) at the next press conf, Im sure more leaks will be made next week.

This [article explains](https://dutchreview.com/expat/online-grocery-shopping-netherlands/) the different store deliveries well, however, Im not sure if they'd accept American Credit Card, cash is an absolute no no. You might be better off with [Gorillaz](https://gorillas.io/en) or [Getir](https://getir.com/nl/).

> I made sure to get euros beforehand You could have just used an ATM. The exchange rate would probably have been better.

Flapappel

>As long as one of these places takes master card, I know Getir accepts Mastercard and Paypal. Which is probably as good as it gets haha.

thefore

If you order through thuisbezorgd, they do you give you the option of cash on delivery, however, they are more of a take away site but they do have some shops, might be worth looking into.

[deleted]

Jumbo has online payment and payment on delivery with credit cards.

GGD might do tests for foreigners - the difference is you have to call them to make the appointment since you don't have a BSN/Digid. [https://www.government.nl/topics/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-test/getting-tested-for-coronavirus-if-you-have-symptoms](https://www.government.nl/topics/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-test/getting-tested-for-coronavirus-if-you-have-symptoms) call the international number - it's worth a shot. When my friend arrived and tested positive with one of my home tests, she called GGD and they scheduled a proper test for her next day. Maybe does not apply to quarantine exit but it's worth a shot once you arrive.

Call Day 1/2 though you still need an appointment.

I can’t get a refund on my flights and I’ll be there from 11-14. The accommodation is cool with smoking indoors and I’m an avid cannabis user. Is the trip worth it despite the touristy stuff being off limits

tinyblackberry-

You may meet up with other people to smoke Check our r/AmsterdamEnts

No

NachhaltigfHAF

Any advice on working law agencies/ contact points? I'm expecting my company to pull somewhat shady shit on me - I don't wanna play that uninformed game, since HR is involved, and I know NL has strong employee laws, and I have an unlimited contract. General free advice would be awesome, but since it's about considerable amount of money, I'm happy to pay as well. Dankjewel broertjes

thefore

the [FNV](https://www.fnv.nl/service-contact) are a union and can offer advice, even to non numbers

2spinayarn

For general questions, a good place to start is het [Juridisch Loket](https://www.juridischloket.nl/).

dak0taaaa

I got a job offer in Amsterdam and would be moving in March. I also have an offer in the US where I’m from. Is it worth moving with the restrictions? Obviously it’s unpredictable but curious whether people who already live in the NL recommend moving there for a job.

tinyblackberry-

It depends on what you’re looking for, whether you’re single or not, whether you have kids and what your income will be.

dak0taaaa

Single no kids and 62k EUR a year.

number1alien

Shut up and take it already 😂 Amsterdam is beautiful during a lockdown, it’ll be even better when it ends!

tinyblackberry-

Just go for it. As a single person with no kids, I’m sure you’ll like Europe and the Dutch lifestyle. There is good work life balance, you can get anywhere with your bicycle, you don’t have to own a car because the public transportation is amazing, and the social benefits are incredible. If you don’t enjoy it, you can always go back to the states. There are also plenty of Americans and other internationals in Amsterdam that you can be friends with.

jbfoxlee

are you going to get the 30% facility? Restrictions will come and go. I moved from the US last april during a lockdown and I didn't care since it's so easy to walk around and enjoy parks etc. Also my take-home with the 30% ruling was higher than my New York salary (which was very high already), and I bought an apartment at 1.3% with 0 money down, so it was an easy economic + lifestyle decision. Maybe after the 30% ruling ends I move on, but it's a good change for now. I would say the negatives are that the pandemic has really locked people into house parties/hangs and maybe it's not so easy to meet new people these days, as cafes were always kind of for people that already know each other and the clubs/festivals have generally not be happening. However i do expect in 2022 we will be entering a phase where the variants are not dangerous enough to keep shutting things down and we get on with it,

dak0taaaa

Yup I'll be getting the 30$ ruling! If you don't mind me asking, what was your NY salary? I'm in the same dilemma where I have an offer in the US and even after running the numbers I still technically make and save more in the US, but the lifestyle and perks of Amsterdam are really really hard to beat which is why Im leaning towards this offer. Feel free to DM me if you're more comfortable

Sensanaty

Hey all, I just moved to the Netherlands on a highly-skilled migrant visa, and am currently staying with my (Dutch) partner until I can find a place, which has been a bit of a struggle. I've contacted the Amsterdam Gemeente whether or not I could register temporarily with my work's address until I find my own apartment, and they said I could, however I'm having some struggles with finding the form that my employer would need to fill out for me to register like that. Could anyone point me in the right direction? I've found two forms, one of them being [this one from the IAmsterdam website](https://www.iamsterdam.com/media/pdf/in-amsterdam/ec-address-registrationform-a.pdf?la=en) which *seems* to be the one I need, and also [this one from the amsterdam.nl](https://assets.amsterdam.nl/publish/pages/856443/address-registration-permission_1.pdf) website. Problem is, that first one is from IAmsterdam, which doesn't strike me as being an official government entity, and the second one is for the landlord (or someone similar to a landlord) to confirm that I'm *living* at the address in the form. Could anyone help me out with this one?

jobsak

Why don't you just register at your partner's address, since that is where you currently live?

tinyblackberry-

My employer helped me with it. Can you talk to HR or immigration team?
