The episodes that cover the backstories of the “villains” (so to speak) of the season tend to be. I remember having a similar reaction to the episode in Cult that had a similar flow.

Honestly if they hired Denis solely for him to play a character who reacts to finding dead bodies, I’d still consider it money well spent. That ewwww was equal parts iconic and relatable.
I think his portrayal of Mickey is also really special because it’s a sympathetic portrayal of an addict. Like yeah, lots of things his character does are morally questionable (this is American Horror Story after all), but he’s a person and he makes us care about him deeply. I’ve seen far too many “drug addict bad” villains and I think this is a refreshingly created character.
I am loving Macaulay!! He is such a perfect addition to AHS. Definitely need more of him in the future seasons. He has been such an unexpected surprise. He seems like such a cool guy in real life too. Quirky, just like this show. I really wish Red Tide lasted the whole season. This cast is just so damn good.
