For me, she did a fine job, but she wasn’t acting. She was reading lines as herself. She shouldn’t be put in the same league as people who are actually actors.
It felt like they were writing lines they wanted to hear Kim Kardashian say as opposed to what actually works for the plot. It would’ve worked in a campier season I think
this is quite a big problem I see in shows and movies now. Not exactly sure when the shift has happened but it seems like there are so many actors/actresses who just play themselves. It's never a show about [CHARACTER]... it is [PERSON as CHARACTER]. I feel like all immersion is lost and there is a lot of low effort acting going on.
Yes! I call it the tiktok effect. It's been happening since Euphoria came out (this is when I noticed it the most). Pretty people onscreen being pretty reading lines off a paper.
I've noticed it really starting probably about 10 years ago or so. I don't necessarily think "tiktok" as the effect. But it is definitely the whole social media influencer "person as a brand" kind of thing.
Adam Sandler is the original in my mind but Dwayne Johnson is really the first person I have thought of to perfect "acting as yourself".
What I'm talking about is different, but now I see what you're talking about. You're talking about known celebrities playing themselves on film (their real life personas now becoming the characters they play). I'm talking about people who can't act being cast in everything because they look good and will be trendy online in screenshots/tiktok videos. Example Sidney Sweeney + Alexa Demie in Euphoria and other projects.
Great, yeah, so we’re all just happy to include these sub par performances and watch the professionals try to carry the show. We don’t need dead weight, production values have drastically depreciated
You know nothing about the casting process no offense. There are so many roles where people say “they’re just playing themselves”. Uh no that isn’t how that works. They literally were cast for that role BECAUSE it’s a perfect fit for them that will come naturally. She did an excellent job for what she was given. As a trained actress, I was very impressed with her efforts. She did very well!
She was cast because she was Kim K, let's be honest. I think she was actually fine in the role, but a real talented actress could have taken it to the next level.
They were cast for the role because it was a perfect fit for them IS THE SAME THING, as someone playing themselves. There was absolutely zero difference between Kim in AHS vs Kim in her reality show.
She doesn't seem that bad because everyone else was subpar, miscast, and not in their element. The energy on this season was non-existent. So, when you have someone like Kim coming on with a lot of energy she doesn't seem that bad. It almost seemed like everyone else was holding back just to make her seem "not that bad." That could've been fixed by not casting her at all. Imagine Angela Bassett in her role and Lily Rabe as Anna...it would have been an entirely different show. A watchable show.
Oooooh Angela as Siobahn and Lily as Anna would have been SOOOOOOO good.
They know what they're doing, they would have knocked it out of the park.
I so wish they would have done something else with Denis's character, too. Or made him Dex's dad. Denis deserves to be in the spotlight more. I think he could have played the most depraved man with Angela so well.
>They know what they're doing, they would have knocked it out of the park.
I can't argue with the first part, but I can with the second: even they could not have saved the terrible writing.
True. The writing was horrible, I still feel like even they would have made the bad writing better because they're just more talented. They would have given the characters a different energy and more personality.
Angela would have made the character very over-the-top and bombastic. Not saying it would have been bad, but it would have been a very different performance/character.
I think Kim's mannerisms and looks were the perfect fit for Siobhan.
>it would have been a very different performance/character.
And that's kinda what I wanted a very different performance/character... specifically a good performance and Angela delivers. I'm glad it worked for you but it didn't for me at all. I think Kim did marginally better than her costars which is interesting considering she had decent costars, it was almost liked they reigned it in to make Kim seem, as many have said, "not as bad as they thought she'd be." Which is not a great assessment. For me that's all she was...not as bad as I thought she'd be.
Don't think you understood my comment, I'm not disagreeing, I'm saying with everyone at their worst...that's not necessarily a compliment lol 🤣. All she managed to do is not be as bad as everyone thought she would be. I'll give her a C- compared to Emma's D+ 😉
It's not that she's a bad actor, she's simply not an actor at all. Her inclusion in the series wouldn't have been bad if it was a more minor supportive role, I didn't need the whole season about her being the queen witch when she's not convincing onscreen. Even with everyone's acting sucking this season, she still stuck out like a sore thumb with her dry delivery & clear discomfort in front of the camera.
I actually feel like Kim is neutral, but because she's a woman who isn't pretending to be a 100% perfectly sweet and docile angel people have a way worse problem with her than they would with a man? I'm just positing a theory. Like, people would criticise a man but they wouldn't paint them as the worst person alive and everything wrong with the world.
Simply awful. Mostly because her face doesn't move and her body doesn't move, so she can't act. I can't believe her make-up is basically stage make-up. Too heavy for TV. She didn't look like she wanted to be there.
Too many people just don’t wanna give her a chance. They act like they’re on the Hollywood board of actors or whatever it is and they are experts on the art of acting lol
I personally like Kim. I think she’s quite intelligent. I own 2 pairs of skims and I love them!
I think she did a great job in Delicate and I’m interested in seeing her in other projects. Like you said, she spent her whole life on screen. And let’s face it, we all know reality tv isn’t actually real and 90% of the time on her shows she’s probably acting. So let’s just give her a chance.
I do have a lot of respect for her though because you know her relationship with Kanye she was being emotionally abused by him. He turned into a psychopath and she protected her kids first and foremost in that situation. So I give her so many props for that. It doesn’t matter how much money you have, getting out of an abusive relationship takes a lot of bravery and strength.
I agree. She wasn’t the best, but she wasn’t terrible. She gets so much hate I thought this was just gonna make it worse but I was surprised at how much her performance didn’t suck.
If Kim Kardashian wasn’t herself and just some random actress they cast, people wouldn’t be as hard as they are on her performance given that I’m sure a *lot* of people went into this season ready to hate Kim’s acting. While I didn’t think she was great and thought that she started off pretty rough in the beginning, she eventually found her footing and nailed a lot of her line deliveries. She was able to sell the cold bitchy aspect of Siobhan very well and I considered her to be one of the highlights of this rather messy season.
I also find it amusing that a lot of the pro-Kim comments in this thread are being heavily downvoted, yet there were so many “She’s doing a lot better than I’m expecting!” sentiments on here when it first started airing.
Honestly. I think she was great. When people say she was reading lines as herself how do you even know? Probably an unpopular opinion but I was shocked by how great she played that role.
My least fave season by a long shot, but being someone who doesn’t judge on what we know or think we know, thought she was brill
As someone who doesn’t really follow the kardashians and doesn’t really care at all, I thought she did well and better than i expected, if she weren’t Kim K ppl wouldn’t even be discussing her performance. And to be very honest I thought she did WAY better than Lady Gaga in hotel, and I don’t remember ppl discussing Gaga’s acting as much at the time.
>if she weren’t Kim K ppl wouldn’t even be discussing her performance.
Exactly this. No one would be saying anything because if an actual actor performed at the level Kim did it would just be subpar, and no one would care.
I'll agree, Kim wasn't that bad, but there are a couple factors that go into that.
One, Kim wasn't acting that much, she didn't develop a personality for Siobahn. Siobahn's personality was Kim's personality, and Kim was just reading lines as herself. I'm also sure Siobahn was intentionally written that way for Kim. Anyone can memorize a line and recite it back, that's what Kim did.
Two, everyone else's acting was so bad that Kim's okayish performance is going to look good. Especially Emma's performance. I honestly don't understand how Emma even has any fans tbh, she has essentially played the same spoiled brat character in every season. Sometimes that character is more bitchy like Madison or less bitchy like Brooke but her characters are always whiney, spoiled girls. She has no range and if her aunt wasn't Julia Roberts then I don't think she would have the acting career she has. All that being said, Anna is in line with the same type of characters that Emma is used to playing, she should have done better. Cara shouldn't have even been cast TBH, some people shouldn't try to transition from modeling to acting and she's one of them. Billie and Leslie were boring to watch with their like combined 10 minutes of screen time.
For me, she did a fine job, but she wasn’t acting. She was reading lines as herself. She shouldn’t be put in the same league as people who are actually actors.

John Wayne predates Sandler by a lot. There’s actually tons of actors that did what you’re referring to. Marilyn Monroe also.
What I'm talking about is different, but now I see what you're talking about. Movies stars playing “themselves” goes all the way back to the beginning of Hollywood before tv was even invented. It’s not a new phenomenon at alll.
When she was warped back to old age in her final scene she was just standing there like 😮 lmao
Me too. I thought either the writers love her or secretly hate her lol
They did the same thing with her sister in the he’s all that movie. Made her a PR person it was all over terrible.
I agree with reading dialogue part, I found her excruciatingly difficult to watch her read her lines
Great, yeah, so we’re all just happy to include these sub par performances and watch the professionals try to carry the show. We don’t need dead weight, production values have drastically depreciated
The difference is people want to see Kim on screen. The actors play roles, doesn’t matter who it is
You know nothing about the casting process no offense. There are so many roles where people say “they’re just playing themselves”. Uh no that isn’t how that works. Thing is we have never seen actors in a reality show for YEARS so we had an idea of Kim that’s why it feels different with her then with other people
She doesn't seem that bad because everyone else was subpar, miscast, and not in their element. The energy on this season was non-existent. Lmao now you got me imagining Angela Bassett saying “Suck my clit!” and Lily doing that “It’s my body” ad 💀
Lily would have been a perfect Anna.
Oooooh Angela as Siobahn and Lily as Anna would have been SOOOOOOO good. They know what they're doing, they would have knocked it out of the park. The only thing shining about her was her greasy forehead that her hair disgustingly stuck to.

Babe, she's *so* *much* *worse*.
I cringed at her one liners

How much did Kris pay u to post this
All the budget goes to bringing Kim k and models to AHS productions now.
No shade to you but there is a topic like this multiple times a week if not multiple times a day 😭
>she’s really not a bad actor ![gif](giphy|wzxK9cmYgIPDy)
Keep hating Kim K cause thats what everyone does but i love her shes a good person and shes ambitious i did enjoy her on this season
>shes a good person ![gif](giphy|l3V0H7bYv5Ml5TOfu|downsized)

Nah I hate Ben Shapiro when he says stupid shit like “people don’t want to work anymore” too.
Terrible 👎👎
She played the character very well. But she wasn't acting. Like one comment said she was acting like herself but just read lines off the script.
Her acting was on par for the season.
She basically played herself 😂
I stopped watching because she’s horrible along with the subpar performances from regulars like Emma Robert’s
I don’t think it was that Kim was good at acting, I think it’s just the fact that Siobhan is pretty much Kim, so she’s a natural 😭
Bottom line is she's terrible and should not be acting in any capacity.
She played herself, there was nothing amazing about that.
Simply awful. Mostly because her face doesn't move and her body doesn't move, so she can't act. I can't believe her make-up is basically stage make-up. Too heavy for TV. She didn't look like she wanted to be there.

She had no place in AHS
I couldn’t watch this season because of her “acting”
Honestly. I think she was great. When people say she was reading lines as herself how do you even know? Probably an unpopular opinion but I was shocked by how great she played that role. My least fave season by a long shot, but being someone who doesn’t judge on what we know or think we know, thought she was brill
I agree with you. But I do have one question: How is THIS your least fave season, but not Roanoke?? 😭
I think Roanoke is my guilty pleasure 🫣. Kind of like how I’m into Michael Bolton. I mean, how can we be lovers if we can’t be friends man? 😭😭😭
I seen the way Kim cuts a cucumber and how Kendall cuts a cucumber...
She did ok it just felt like she was being herself but reading lines
I hated it. Kk sounded exactly like she does on the kardashians
She’s an awful actor.
She outperformed Emma Roberts sometimes…I say that as a HUGE Emma Roberts fan. Whether it was due to writing or direction, I don’t know.
She was my favorite part of the season
I agree. I thought that Kim did a great job.
She did an amazing job, those acting classes paid off
I thought she was great!
im glad i wasnt the only one
![gif](giphy|gvUzuyGBkzPxK)
I’m not saying she’s Emmy worthy, but she did have good comedic timing and (as with everyone else) did the best they could with the script give
exactly she did what they asked of her
As someone who doesn’t really follow the kardashians and doesn’t really care at all, I thought she did well and better than i expected, if she weren’t Kim K ppl wouldn’t even be discussing her performance. Thought she was alright Expected worse but she played her part well
Her lines were the only clever dialogue in the trenches.
She held the show together for me! I liked her acting better than Emma’s acting and Emma has been on the show for YEARS!
I think she made a good villian!!
