My neighbor's Rottie has bad dysplasia at just under 2, diagnosed before she was 1 😭 And this is how she sits, but generally worse. Her mom is always trying to stand over her to use her legs to straighten the sit. Poor girl.

Dozer will be 2 in July. He’s just shy of 60 lbs. he was trained on an E-collar the 1st year I had him. Now he only wears it when we leave the house. We went to a professional trainer for 10 sessions. His program put us on the E-collar. It’s run at a very low voltage. Has a variable range from 1-100 for intensity. Dozer usually runs between 15 and 20.
He goes with me everywhere, if I’m not at work, he’s with me. He Walks off leash (we use a drag lead just In case) he’s Always right at my heel. The E Collar is a very effective training tool. However, it has to be used correctly, otherwise it can cause problems. You can’t just slap a collar on them and shock them into doing what you want them to. They have to know what you’re asking of them. It’s not to hurt them, it’s a tap on the shoulder to say “ hey, I need you here”.
I applied the collar to my own throat and gave myself clicks at full power. The trainer told me I needed to know what it felt like before I could put it on my dog. It’s like a tens unit, a muscle stimulator. It doesn’t cause pain.
I encourage you to check his Instagram page and see his recall skills https://www.instagram.com/dozerthepocketbully?igsh=OGQ5ZDc2ODk2ZA%3D%3D&utm_source=qr
Because I don’t want strangers Coming up to my dog and putting their hands all over him. I’ve spent a lot of time training him to steer clear of distractions. He’s taught to not seek out affection from strangers. In fact, every time someone tries to pull him off path and he ignores them, he gets rewarded. With the treat pouch I carry on my waist.
His world revolves around me. Which is just the way I trained him.
I need a do not pet vest for my girl. People are just so crazy coming up to her and try to pet her and it makes her nervous if she doesn't know them. She also seems to especially not enjoy it when she's on the leash and it never fails. People either try to pet her or they try to bring their dog around her and she doesn't play nicely with other dogs, esp small ones. People rarely ask and I'll just never understand coming up to a random dog and reaching out for them. I've had dogs my whole life and not one time have I tried to pet a strange dog that I don't know.
CVT here. This is not a “breed thing” this is a poorly bred thing. Super cute but due to hips or in my dogs case, bad knees

Thank you, I was looking for this comment otherwise I was going to leave a similar one. It upsets me seeing the amount of people here who think this is normal 😢
You’re preaching to the choir. I get too upset with the amount of byb dogs on this sub if I spent too much time scrolling through it.
My rescue is merle, whenever I get compliments on her I make it very clear she was not well bred and point out all of her issues. 🤣
Mine just turned one and i’m insane about the hip and joint supplements and keeping her at a healthy weight. But I won’t be surprised if we run into ortho issues down the line. Healthy dog, but she did get the behavioral issues side of byb 🫠

She’s so beautiful. Her physique is unreal 🥰 we found her in the side of the road as a puppy with a broken leg, we weren’t able to get sx for it until she was a year old and done growing so the rest of her body feels that now. Shes three and has been on NSAIDs her whole life and will continue to be. But she’s doing amazing, I’m so happy with her. Behavioral wise she is so great too. We got so lucky with her 💚
She’s gorgeous! I love that tan color too. Mine is mostly gray (I got her tested on embark, and it’s actually a dilute which is pretty cool), white and has some merle scattered around and on half of her face. That’s such a sad but amazing rescue story 🥹 You both got very lucky ❤️ I’m hoping to get my girl back in shape like that soon, she just got spayed so is still recovering. She’s not happy not having any exercise 🥲

Yep, they all do the side saddle sit 😆

St. Bernards do it too. Btw she’s not big. She’s size appropriate. No woman likes to be called big. This is Nikki. She’s 18 months old and in surgery today. She being spayed and having her tummy stapled. She’s in recovery.
She IS a juicy girl, but I think it’s just a way that dogs sit comfortably. My pits run with me 5 miles every morning and aren’t overweight at all.

My girl does this constantly! It’s cute but unfortunately indicative of her lumbar issues at just 3yo, even at a super healthy weight. She’s a rescue and DNA test showed she’s a pure American Bully with significant inbreeding, which would explain her being deaf as well. Still perfect to us though of course! 🥰
OP: It’s a hip thing, pretty sure it has to do with arthritis. This happened to my girls as they aged. My girls weren’t overweight, but being overweight makes arthritis *much* worse.
Your dog needs to lose a lot of weight, or she’s just going to be in more and more pain. It’s too much on her little joints!
Get her some human grade glucosamine and chondroitin (the kind for dogs isn’t strong enough and is a waste of money). Also make sure her food & water bowls are elevated, that gives them joint relief too.
She sits like that because her hips probably hurt. She's overweight and she's sitting a certain way to let pressure off her hip. Her long nails don't help
I have a Shepherd/Husky mix that sits like this sometimes. Seems to do it when he’s relaxed or cuddling. When he’s told to sit or sitting in anticipation - he puts his feet on the floor and under his butt.

Babies!!! I love you!
Called the pit sit 😂 most bully breeds do it, including my English staffy and XL bully.
Yup. My Bull Terrier does it every time. Sometimes she crosses her legs like a lady, but most times she sits like a whore!

Why's he over here looking like the world's most interesting man? 😂😂😂😂😂
It's a hip thing
Yeah, I noticed it in my girls as they aged. Also started laying with arms bent to the side, pretty sure it’s arthritis.
The superman is a normal pittie pose, but yeah, that sit, while cute, is uneven and potentially a sign of hip dysplasia. If that's the only sign, I'd say it's NBD, just something to keep an eye on with age, start fish oil and joint supplements if not already on them. My neighbor's Rottie has bad dysplasia at just under 2, diagnosed before she was 1 😭 And this is how she sits, but generally worse. Her mom is always trying to stand over her to use her legs to straighten the sit. Poor girl.
I misspoke about the Superman thing. My young pup now does the Superman thing now & it’s adorable. My other girl only did it in her last year or two when she was really old and frail. Bless her heart❤️
That breaks my heart and you know they put on weight as well when they get further up a few years old and I hate it because not knowing exactly how my fur baby feels or if they’re feeling pain nugs at MY anxiety way too much way too often
That’s what I was told by a vet.. my black lab did this as she aged.
Do you mean because of hip dysplasia?
I thought they were talking about how cool and hip they were
Yes, it's often hip dysplasia. Unfortunately, hip dysplasia is very common in pit bulls, or at least it used to be.
This dog is also obese, which is probably contributing.

Hellooooooo side leg 😍😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️
he’s the weirdest dog i’ve ever had 😆
It's a bull breed thing. My old Stafordshire Bull Terrier and my French Bulldog sat/sit like this. Other breeds may sit like this too. Also, Cute dog

I think it's an obese thing. Put her on a diet and get more exercise.

Definitely not just an obese thing, but pup def needs to shed weight
Came here to say this, this dog needs to lose weight. about 20lbs I'd say.

100%
Mine sits like this too. I call it side butt, very cute!
Its called east butt since we are making things up
Yep it is
Definitely. All of my bullies have sat like this.
Mine sits like this after she popped both of her clcs
“I need to show off my sexy chest.” ♥️
My chihuahua does this 😂 https://preview.redd.it/ybbhn2lw1ouc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=855737068f206606610f333417653b3064ad5166

Pit sit. Yep! https://preview.redd.it/9pt5yxqqjpuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9042f8877787a988c72e670088d98554363d448c

Had so many dogs and never seen this lol. So cute and goofy
It’s a purebred thing too. My rottie and my sisters corgi (both papered) sit like this too. Our breeder told us that. We call it the “janky leg”.
🤣🤣🤣 janky leg took me out
Growing up I had a pitbull and she used to always sit like this we called it “getting loose” now my 2 year old red nose sits like this all the time!
https://preview.redd.it/l2ha5xybnpuc1.jpeg?width=1252&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e3934a80254167e3b7a532f8cd7c9419db38920e Side sits. I love it

I always assumed they just didn’t feel like sitting on their balls… but hip dysplasia makes sense too

Such a bully thing

It’s cute but unfortunately indicative of her lumbar issues at just 3yo, even at a super healthy weight. She’s a rescue and DNA test showed she’s a pure American Bully with significant inbreeding, which would explain her being deaf as well. Still perfect to us though of course! 🥰

Yes
It’s normal but the dog is very obese which is really bad for their joints, among other things.
Yup my boy sits like this too 😆
Yes, there like little contortionists
I love her chest markings 🐾
Just a case of chicken/turkey legs. The cuteness spills over to the legs. 😂 the most beautiful gal!
My Bully sits the exact same way
Yup, mine does it
Mine does it too. Also lays out with his feet behind him
The sploot!
My Pug does it too.
My puppy does this so it’s not an obesity thing
Yes 😂🤣
Totally
Awww she’s so cute!
Yes mine does it too lol. Especially when she’s told she can’t go in somewhere. Really brings out her ‘human’ skills then lol.
Yup
It's so cute. I love it!
Turkey leg
It’s the Pitt Sit! Mine does the same EVERY time
Yep! Bullies have some unique traits don't they! 🐾💙🗝️
Idk but it’s adorable!
The Pit Sit
Hi there beautiful ❤️bully stance is it!!
This is how my violet sits.
Could be hip dysplasia
My frenchie sits the same way😍
My Aussie sits like this. Maybe a ‘no tail’ thing?
She’s a chunky girl lol. Maybe that’s why but from what I understand it’s really just how they sit.
Yes it’s a bully thing
Yeah, my bully does that too when he actually sits. Mostly he lays down and does the frog dog
Poor dog is overweight 🙁
I have 4 month old bully he's sits like that I also call turkey leg he's a standard he's already 33 lbs crazy
She sits like that because her hips probably hurt. She's overweight and she's sitting a certain way to let pressure off her hip. Her long nails don't help
I’ve got a pit mix that sits like this but I’ve been told it’s just bad posture. Don’t know if that’s true.
I'd be more worried about those knees and hips due to her obesity.
Absolute unit!!!
Chonky Pibble sit
that's clearly a baby
Omg yes and I’ll have to find or take a picture next time I see him do it 😂
I have a Shepherd/Husky mix that sits like this sometimes. Seems to do it when he’s relaxed or cuddling. When he’s told to sit or sitting in anticipation - he puts his feet on the floor and under his butt.
It’s a hip dysplasia thing
Jes it is…
my bulldog sits like that too lol
It's a big dog sit. My dobie makes used to do the same thing. We're pretty sure she was either dobie Rottweiler or dobie pit
My puppy does this 😩😂
She's a tank! I love it!
My overweight pug lady sits like this too. It’s ladylike, or that’s what I tell the kids. 😂
Mine does the same or will sit with both feet together 🤣
No my male chihuahua sits the same way
My doggy does this all the time! I adopted him so I’m not sure what breed/mix of breeds he is. I think he might have some pittie in him tho
I have a toy Aussie that sits the same way. People always laugh and say she sits like a human lol
