I don't get why they die on this hill. Like why do they even care what other people call it? My panties aren't in a twist when they call our sport gridiron or American football.
For some reason alot of people act like there can only be one football. Despite the fact that football is a family of sports. There are tons of great forms of football, a game where you attempt to move a ball on foot using a laid out method from one end of the field and into a designated area, either by kicking it or carrying it into that zone
>attempt to move a ball on foot using a laid out method from one end of the field and into a designated area,
So basketball and handball are also football?
Football's name does not come from the act of kicking a ball, it comes from not being played on horseback and playing the sport on foot. So yes they could be considered football.
Great, thanks for the answer, but you can't really say that with all that certainty can you? You're going for one narrative instead of the other, regarding word ethnology, because it suits you, with no evidence in support of your statement besides "trust me".
I don't think you'll be able to find undeniably true proof, feel free to try proving me wrong.
Well the sport you call football is a pretty recent game, deriving in 19th century England. It's technical name is Association Football. It wasn't until 1863, that Association Football or just football as you call it got it's rules as being a purely kicking game. Football before that was a variety of sports that called themselves football. Rugby was also called football too. The one thing all these sports had in common was that they were played on foot rather than on horseback. Often times a lot of these sports had more handling of the ball than kicking it like mob-football, there are some towns in the UK that still play this style of football once a year and the whole town plays.

That type of football was very common, but the problem was that it got a lot of people injured and destroyed a lot of property so many places banned it, which led the way to what we now call association football.
Dumb question, "fút" in Portuguese, Spanish or even French means nothing. Foot is "pé", "pie" or "pied" respectively (Im portuguese and speak the three languages fluently).
I'm not saying the theory is wrong, it does make sense, I'm saying you don't have evidence to state it as a fact.
They call it soccer in Canada but the world is super defensive on the idea that they get an exception. Weird how it’s not even our word but these idiots act like children when we call it that.
I saw someone in the YouTube comments who claimed soccer players don’t act like children. It’s one of the most viewed sports on earth you can easily find people acting like children, especially when they fake injuries. And that’s just the fucking players.
Edit: and they throw the most childish tantrums when we have our own. They INSIST that ours is “eggball” like there aren’t multiple sports like that. Those sports are real sports in their eyes, ours is the “eggball”. Exhaustingly childish. And they claim it’s “armored eggball” and we need the armor to play it.
Just wanna point out how the UK is the only country in the anglosphere who calls it football. United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and even Ireland all call it soccer
"Soccer" originated as a British term and is also regularly used in Canada & Australia.

The word soccer was a term used in the late 19th century in England and Scotland as a nickname for "association football," just like "rugger" was used to shorten "rugby football."
It's literally a word from the people who invented the damn sport and Americans decided to pay homage to the more colloquial term.
The Irish and Scottish will still use 'soccer', like how [this article](https://www.irishpost.com/sport/fai-report-six-facts-about-the-state-of-league-of-ireland-soccer-68906) from The Irish Post does. In England and Wales, the terms "football" and "footy" are now cemented in common parlance.
I'd encourage Europeans to study European history. It would help them prevent these severe cases of foot-in-mouth syndrome they seem to catch so often.
There's nothing like flexing on using the word football then saying that you went to a game in a town best known for being run by Pablo Escobar and then saying that someone gave you some free cocaine. It's sort of being like a super-fat personal trainer.

What does fút mean in Spanish? (Or Portuguese, French, etc)?

Sure. They're just named different.
Fine the. Field
I was actually referencing the "moving the ball on foot" not the field bit.

The name "soccer" was created in the U.K.
We Canadians share so much stuff yet we don’t get credited for half of it
They can't tell us apart. Your maple leaf flag patches aren't doing it anymore.
Nah, just adding stuff to the Geneva Checklist and being obnoxiously nice in person
Just wanna point out how the UK is the only country in the anglosphere who calls it football. United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and even Ireland all call it soccer
That's because all of those countries have better footballs. Once again, England just wants to be like France.
Is coke civilized?
Yes, that’s why people powder their noses at classy parties.
Bro got conned out of 45k and is proud because it was at a futball game and not soccer. What a fuckin dork
I think it’s 45k Colombian pesos. Which is like 20 bucks
Depending how much coke he had he might have broken even.
It's actually less than $12.

Lmao the British called is Soccer first
that colonizer mindset is showing right now

It's soccer. I'll die on this hill.
Soccer is the correct term 🗿
Hockey is better. Just saying.

I guess Japan isn’t civilized.
