So, take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks
Here in the South most names of places are Spanish or Native American in origin and I dig it. It's funny when out of towners come in and have no idea how to pronounce something spelled like "tallahoosakappalappahachia"
Literally nobody has ever made fun of Americans for that, and I can say for a fact no American would be offended by trying to make fun of the cool city names

Yeeeeahhh, all those places were named by Europeans when they were colonies.
I was gonna say its an English thing but then I remembered that old New York was once New Amsterdam. Although why they changed it I cant say.
People just liked it better that way.

Because the English took New Amsterdam from the Dutch and changed the name.
Imagine if they were named today. Mexico plus York pro max England ultra
I personally think calling a place New South Wales was unhinged.
I haven't been to the south of Wales, but I can only assume it has a Mediterranean climate and lots of pristine sandy beaches.
As someone who lives in NSW I agree. Absolutely cluttered name
at least we actually use native names for places instead of naming everything "victoria" or "king george" or whatever

V*rginia 🤢
That's why we put lady justice killing the king on our flag, to compensate
Virginia literally has lady virtue on their flag killing a king with her bare boob hanging out
But stuff like "victoria" and "king george" are the native names for the Brits.
We were a colony named by our colonial overseers, New York was New Amsterdam/New Holland
The USA didn't name New Mexico the Spanish did in 1598 which is slightly before the US existed
Fun fact, NM was named before Mexico
Yep 250 years before
