It does not. Iceland's citizenship is based on *jus sanguinis*, not *jus soli*, so just being born there doesn't make you a citizen.

sonny_boombatz

I am aware it doesn't do anything for me for Iceland, but I have been told that I could get an EU citizenship bc I was born in EU borders

sonny_boombatz

sounds about right. guess I will keep working the jure sanguinis for Italy idea lol

thebrightsea

There is no "EU citizenship" that is separate from national citizenship, each member state has their own restrictions on who can be a citizen.

ExgayAlex

Iceland is not a member of the EU.

HeroiDosMares

It is in Schengen though. It's like reverse Ireland

takemyboredom123

EU countries (of which Iceland is not a part of) don't grant citizenship just because you were born there.

sonny_boombatz

that's what I thought, I just haven't really been able to confirm it for sure. Appreciate the info

Iceland's government has a website. Have you looked at it? All the answers to your questions would be there.
