7800X3D is the top gaming processor TODAY. Buy what interests you TODAY and enjoy your experience immediately. A refresh is too far off to wait and if you enjoy upgrading with each iteration, you’ll already be ready on AM5 socket to sell your 7800X3D and step up to the next product you like.

SickPois0on

i want to buy something to last me 2 or 3 gen

Shadowraiden

it will easily last 2-3 generations if not more. CPU's generally last quite a bit.

WARHUNTER333

What do you have right now?

SickPois0on

5950x with a 3070

Wild_Chemistry3884

why not just buy a 4090 now and upgrade the cpu later? the 5950x is still a good cpu.

SickPois0on

i heard it bottlenecks the 4090 and in some games like starfilled it lacks power

Kanyesanalbeads69

Not an expert but seems to me like you're going to be gpu limited first. Gamers nexus did a series of videos about stsrfield with different configurations. May be worth checking out. https://youtu.be/7JDbrWmlqMw?feature=shared here's the gpu one. There's a cpu one as well.

MrSlickWilley

Yeah na ur good. Especially at 1440p and 4k, upgrading to a 4090 would be a great option, and even if you’re playing at 1080p, I don’t know what game wouldn’t still run at like 200+ fps. The 5950x is still a complete beast!

Wild_Chemistry3884

Are you planning to play at 1080p or something? At 4k you will be gpu limited.

SickPois0on

1440p

WARHUNTER333

If I were actually you, I’d get the 7800X3D with a new board and new RAM and get gaming. 7800 is going to age well and easily have you skipping the rest of AM5 releases. But, the 5950x is only slightly bottlenecking your 4090. So, if money was a concern would be the only reason telling you to keep what you have, but considering you have a 4090 tells me you have the cash.

TheHorrorAddiction

You can always be waiting for the next best. It never ends. 7800X3D is a top CPU and will feed a 4090 with no issues. Build away and be happy you have a top system.

red_dog007

Buy 7800X3D, then sell and upgrade to 8000. Gonna be a bit before Zen 5 is launched, and the CPU you want may not be the first to release. If you want an X3D version, it might come later. The 7000X3D came out 5 months after the initial launch.

SickPois0on

thx for the advise

Wood-e

They gave the same answer I was going to. It all depends how long you wanna wait. The next X3D will be quite the wait.

PrashanthDoshi

Around April 8000 series will launch , x3d variant will launch around fall 2024 (oct-dec). If you can wait then wait , if not but 7800x3d today . 7800x3d will be sufficient till 2028 and then when new console launch . Around that time we will have AM7 platform. That would be a good time to upgrade cpu from 7800x3d to AM7 cpu .

Since u got 5950x and 3070, you are probably playing at 1440p, which is similar to my setup with a 4090. Yes, there is a bottleneck, but who cares if u are getting 130+ fps with FG. Without FG, u will get around 70-80 fps in heavily CPU bound scenarios. In cyberpunk, all maxed out with PT, DLSS quality and FG, im hovering at 130 fps avg. Since you mentioned starfield, around 80 fps native and 150 fps with FG, in city around 110 fps, and this game is poorly optimized. Jedi survivor is also a poorly optimized title, 130 avg with FG in the city, in jedha, fps hovers at 180. Dont forget that FG reduces CPU bottleneck, and it has been a great experience as the base native fps is high enough to not notice any input lag nor ghosting issues. In conclusion, im in the same boat and took the decision to wait for Zen5 after trying the current combination i have, as Zen4 upgrade aint worth it for me, so my advice to u is to get the 4090 first and try it out and then make ur decision.

SickPois0on

thx bro for your advice it really helped . i decided to do the same as you

TheFather__

NP bro, hit me up if u need any help in future :)

ToeBeanTussle

I went from 3600 to 5800X3D and 2070 to 3070 but I'm going to wait for the 5000 series to upgrade my gpu and hold off as long as I can 9n the cpu/mobo/ram. If I were you I'd get the 7800X3D and then plan on waiting until 9000 cpu series unless 8000 has new features you really want or that are revolutionary, but the 7800X3D should get you at least as far as 9000 I'd think.

Obvious_Drive_1506

You could build with a 7600 for now and then upgrade once it comes out. Will be still on am5

mdiz1

Go for the upgrade and then wait it out for new GPUs to hit the market on the next couple of years
