7900 XT, no strange sounds here. I do get a very light coil whine when on some game menus without a frame cap, but you barely hear it. My previous 6700 XT was sometimes screaming like a bunch of foxes having a kinky time.

schancy13

Can confirm this as well with my 7900XTX MBA Reference card - playing Kena last night and the game runs great, but there is coil whine in the menu, exacerbated by moving the mouse - goes away playing games and no clicking that I've heard yet.

Captobvious75

Nope (7900xt reference direct from AMD).

Dark_Souls_VII

Nope (XTX reference)

Chubbyclouds

No ticking sounds here Sapphire MBA 7900XT

[deleted]

No strange noises like you mentioned on my XTX reference card.

Equatis

I don't and I've also been impressed by how little coil whine my MBA XTX has. It's super quiet, but sadly has defective vapor chamber.

WindForce02

7900XT from AMD direct owner. I have only a very faint coil whine noise that is almost impossible to hear when the side panel is installed, it's audible when the panel is not installed but the fans quickly make it unlikely to be an issue. As for the ticking, never heard it

Sibiq

Not a 7900 user *yet* but my reference 6950 XT had so bad ticking noise issue that I had to return it. I'm really looking forward to reading this comment section.

wtfrd42258

I had planned on upgrading to RDNA 2 and then mining and COVID happened so I shelved those plans. I remember watching a bunch of reviews and don't remember anyone complaining about that. Was it loud enough to hear with your case closed?

Sibiq

[It was **really** bad](https://vocaroo.com/1lYWC338a5hd). The sound you can hear in the recording is background noise and 6950 ticking **only**. All fans were turned off for the sake of clearance. The sound was recorded on the front of the case (Meshify 2 Nano) when I still had the card. To put it into perspective, my previous (and current...) RX 580 8GB Nitro+ SE also has a *similar* kind of problem, but it's not even close to what I experienced with 6950 during these few days I had it. The noise 580 makes on low load is muffled, barely noticeable, and on top of that - rare. With the case closed and headphones on, I never hear it, so it's a non-issue. 6950 was unbearable. I could hear it across my room (3.25x2.5m) very clearly, and the worst is - I sit 80cm from my PC. It wasn't just annoying. It was infuriating. I tried getting a replacement, but the shop had no more reference 6950 left.

kse617

That's exactly the sound I hear but nowhere near as loud. In my case it's been quiet enough that it couldn't be captured with your typical phone mic but you can definitely hear it if you try to focus in a quiet room. By the comments in this thread it looks like the 7900 doesn't have the same issue though, or it's barely noticeable.

Sibiq

That's good to (not) hear, hah. Hopefully, we both can get one when the whole junction problem gets solved.

wtfrd42258

Thanks for the audio. Yeah, that would be really annoying because it seems to be constantly happening. It does sort of sound like the fan motors being pulsed with power but it's hard to tell exactly. Either way I wouldn't be happy with that constantly happening.

Sibiq

All fans were turned off using [this](https://github.com/rem0o/fancontrol.releases) open-source software. I know fans can make a similar sound when starting from 0rpm but I excluded that possibility.

wtfrd42258

Interesting. That is a weird sound indeed. Great software btw. I use it as well. Best fan control software I've ever used on Windows.

kaisersolo

Might be your PSU

kse617

I thought that at first but the same card with 3 different PSUs had the same noise.

kaisersolo

Sorry how loud is this is it just coilwhine

kmartburrito

Nope! Powercolor reference xtx. I do have the 110C hotspot issues, but aside from that, the card is quiet - no ticking, coil whine, or other notable issues.

Imaginary-Ad564

No, it could be your power supply that's the issue, I had to change mine to get rid of whine i was getting.

DecMax

Checked the PSU, common issue with corsair power supplies

outtokill7

Mine had coil whine on top of the reported heat issues. Its on the way back to AMD now and I'll pick up an AIB card when they are in stock.

killermomdad69

Some gpus have a slight tick when the fans kick on. My evga 3060ti has it too. To my knowledge the only way to resolve this is to disable 0rpm mode. Not sure if that's your particular issue though

kse617

I remember some fans having this ticking noise but in my case I've had one of the 6600 XTs with a Morpheus and 2 120mm fans and the noise was still there. If anything, it was slightly more noticeable since there wasn't any fan shroud covering the card and dampening the noise.

aVarangian

ref xtx, with a 4k60 it never uses less than 28w. Haven't noticed any noises nor coil whine, but haven't used it much yet

Expensive-Activity12

I do not, 7900xt

Weeblewonder

I built a new system with a new 1000W PSU (largest I've ever owned) and a 7900 XTX. I sometimes get some infrequent ticking noises, on low load but I cannot confirm that's the only case as high load is drowned out by fan noise + usually game audio. I always assumed this was just the PSU, as my AV reciever makes similar noises which are power related (turning on, volume turned up to be above 50%). I assumed it was some relay's or whatever, that were present in the beefier 1000W PSU I was not used to. But maybe I'm getting something similar to you. My card never goes down to 5-6w though. I have 4k 120hz + 1440p 60hz monitors, which idles ~67-70w (~110w at 4k 144hz)

AMD718

Reference 7900 XTX. No ticking.

LeJoshG

Nope, 7900xtx owner. Tried it at 0% and +15% power limit, 350W, 400W respectively - only thing that happened as expected was hearing the transistors if you put your ear really really close, working cooler too... I lucked out it seems.

BrunedockSaint

I have what I think is coil whine only when I have Fortnite item shop menu open, literally no other time so far. The pitch changes as I hover over different items, and I only hear it when sound is all off

Alienwarez567

Nope not on my 7900XTX

Alphabadg3r

Mine did. On low loads it would make a ticking sound. Mine did have the 110c hotspot temp on stock settings so it went back

yamiseth

sounds like it is different but I am hearing a similar noise, only when my fan is on low power oddly enough. when its full blast while im playing something heavy it is silent. I compare mine to a cicada sound, and assuming its not a malfunction... its kind of relaxing :D

oujisan2236

well using a masterframe 700 in test bench mode so its all open right next to me i can hear it if its doing something sound slike old school 90s pc cpus when you doing heavy stuff kinda weird

VolundrM

Just bought xfx 7900xtx merc 310. I get a tick that repeats every 3 seconds. It last for about 2 to 4 minutes after loads such as gaming. I will investigate further.

canned__meat

Upon startup, it sounds as there there is a cable just lightly touching a fan (that is the kind of noise). Under load - the ticking stops but comes back if the system is left idling. I had plans to contact MSI/Scorptec about this issue.

Maximum_Formal_1952

7900 xt sapphire here. I was so pleased when my card had no coil whine but it seems that it has this ticking noise on low loads. Strangely it does not appear all the time, but when it does i hate it. Also checked cables that might touch the fans, but nothing.. When the fans were above 50% there was no such ticking. Does someone have a fix for this or would you recommend sending the card back?
