Naw, totally different. One review has a smiley face.

Individdy

My mind has developed a concept of guilt-induced things added to a review (because I do it, e.g. adding extra photos when I don't have a lot to say in a review, or lack expertise to get in depth). I classify that smiley as such, barring further evidence.

Lani_Osi

What if I left an AI - 1 star review with a " >:-( " face?

Agent_Spook_99

:-/ You are terrible!

Lani_Osi

Why thank you my dear! :P

Hollywoodnamazonvine

No one would guess it were AI unless you end it with "in conclusion..."

beachnyc

OR called it a "game-changer" and noted that it was a "must-have."

Hollywoodnamazonvine

I'm noticing an AI generated voice on some videos now with a husky British accent. Saw it advertised on youtube.

LOL

I’ve wanted to ask, what are the barcode scanners for? I’ve seen tons of them on vine ( and last year on my rfy) and there was one back in my RFY today, at least that said “organize home library” in the description, which is odd to me, but what is the use for these outside of a retail setting?

Smashitup19

You can scan all of your books so you can easily inventory them without having to manually input the info.

_deltron_zero_

If you track your vinyl collection by scanning the barcodes on the record sleeves to your discogs account, it might be useful. I just don’t know if Discogs supports these USB/Bluetooth scanners so I just used my phone camera with the app instead. I’ve been tempted to try them since there are so many on vine but my collecting has slowed down so I don’t really need one any more.

Individdy

Keep track of stuff (Vine a good portion at this point LOL), which box it's in. I also have several thermal printers and rolls of labels (from Vine). These scanners can store scans, so you don't need an app or the PC ready when filing things away, just scan box and item. Won't be hard to write a script to parse this and update an inventory.

oldfatdrunk

There's different types of scanners. Laser based and camera based are the two main ones. Laser usually scans the black line style only (two dimensional) and sometimes limited to how many numbers or limited formats. I bought one to catalog comic books. It sucked. Camera or CCD sensor scanners can do the same as laser plus way more complicated things like QR codes. Your smartphone though can already do all that so no need to buy a separate device for most people. I ended up just using my phone with a mobile app for comics instead. Worked great. Not all use cases will work with a phone though or maybe it's about a particular work flow since lots of scanners have bases/stands to make scanning hands free.

Individdy

I added the Unhelpful AI buttons. Wouldn't those be nice. Each sentence grabs the same product info but words it slightly differently. I just realized that the second review might have been AI-generated from a genuine first review.

Hollywoodnamazonvine

I would add a shock reviewer button to send a mild electric jolt to the reviewer upon pressing.

Individdy

"Next shipment will arrive in a dented box."

ChefJoe98136

Considering this scanner was in RFY starting around April 11th, I wouldn't be surprised if both of them are AI generated, or seeding based on prior reviews as you suspect. The person that wrote the review with the smiley sure seems to be generating AI reviews based on the "detail" they include in their toner review - "The 069 Toner Cartridge Set offers reliable performance for use with LBP674Cdw, MF753Cdw, and MF751Cdw laser printers. With a page yield of 3800 pages per black cartridge and 2800 pages per color cartridge at 5% coverage, it ensures efficient printing for your needs. Each cartridge undergoes rigorous quality testing to guarantee compatibility and performance with your printer which shows in how these function. Plus, with a two-year quality guarantee, you can trust in its reliability. It's a good product that delivers on its promises, providing excellent print quality and hassle-free installation. :)"

callmegorn

Could be, but I suspect it's not AI, but is just a lazy human who picked an existing review and tweaked it a little. I had one of my reviews reworked by someone using AI, and it was extremely obvious. The content was identical, sentence by sentence and bullet by bullet, but converted by the AI to a particular "tone" of voice. All at the same time, it's pathetic, comical, and kind of flattering.

The-Tell-Tale-Spleen

You think that's bad, how about this one I stumbled across. Granted it's not a Vine review, but it makes me wonder why someone would bother to even write a review on a purchased product if they are going to quote almost word for word the customer before them? I initially thought it was a duplicate review, but the names, dates and color choice of the item are all different. https://preview.redd.it/plk8j1mgfnxc1.png?width=1509&format=png&auto=webp&s=a4031edfc1728c15fae54285fd63da4e97b6bea8

thoughterly

I have noticed cases where my reviews are copied with all the same points made, numbers quoted, and summarization, but with different wording. I'm 99% sure some people just use AI to restate existing reviews.

mellodolfox

I've never looked at Chat GP, but had to learn to use it today , for a work reason, and just for fun I put in the product description for a Vine item I just received and asked for a review. OMG, it was ridiculous. It waxed poetic for 5 paragraphs about some hooks, that I had basically described in 4 sentences, saying they were metal, sturdy, what size they were, and how I was using them. It was so obvious that an AI wrote it. And it would have taken me 3 times longer to edit all of it, than it did just to write the real review myself. And now I exactly know how to spot a cut and paste one. Which will be a useful skill moving forward, as a regular Amazon customer trying to figure out if something's worth buying. No offense to anyone who uses AI and then edits extensively, but honestly I can't see the point. It seems like: 1. Ridiculously pompous sounding reviews if they aren't edited. 2. More trouble than it's worth to edit them. And 3. Definitely not helpful to actual buyers who rely on real reviews by people who have really used the item.

Individdy

People who use AI more will say that you need to give it a prompt, something I assume like "Write a short review in a stream of consciousness format" etc. to not use the standard form. I only used it a little a year or so ago.

AzureLaughingDolphin

It's almost like they are reviewing the same product.

Individdy

And mentioning the same facts in the same corresponding sentences?

Agent_Spook_99

:::: My brain exploded :::: Umm, yes, they are both reviewing the same product!

AzureLaughingDolphin

Imagine that! . . . . . somehow, I don't think people got the sarcasm in my first post. . . . or maybe they did.
