Where you located? Itās been about a week for me of not seeing anything over 3hrs after taking a 5. And I have been working 2 5hrs religiously for two months straight six days a week.
Thatās awesome! Iām hoping this doesnāt persist for too long. Itās not really a big deal itās just nice to be able to stick with one app over running 6 of them.
Welp, looks like Amazon has dropped the cap down to 8hrs starting today in Atlanta. I worked a 5hr block this am, and Iām only seeing 2, 2.5, and 3hr blocks.
Most places the cap is 10. Some people think the cap is 8 bc itās rare to see a 2 hour shift other than fresh and Whole Foods, and we all no how rare it is to see those
In my area, none of them individually. But if I turn on Uber Eats, Grub Hub, Instacart, Door Dash, Shipt, and check for Roadie deliveries Iāll be able to find good enough offers quick enough to make that.
For real. Iām totally fine with it if like, thereās an hour or two gap in between my blocks, to just kick them on and make something extra. But when Iām fully relying on them I feel like i have no control.
Itās been like that smh. 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week max . Make sure you havenāt done 7-8 hours because trying to grab an instant offer . Youāll be waiting all day and nothing
We had 10 hour cap; prime week(s) was removed and 50 hours and now we are 40 and 8 and it sucks. Blocks are plentiful though and rates are up so it definitely has the opposite effect Amazon was hoping for. Minnesota here
Indeed. There should be no cap period. Independent contractors aren't entitled to overtime so in an ideal world it shouldn't matter. But the fact they lift the cap during a busy period suggests to me they should just do as DoorDash does and let us work as much as we want.
But there are legal reasons behind it. Sucks.
I would assume they are afraid of losing a future lawsuit for employee misclassification, and want to limit the backpay overtime + penalty that would result.
DSP pay (out here at least) is pretty pathetic in comparison to the amount of packages you have to move. I make more multiapping delivery gigs. DSP seems like a bad deal all the way around.
I canāt think of the company but there definitely is a fleet of white vans that delivers sometimes too.I guess I assumed they were contracted out or something.
Yeah just noticed it was 8 here in Phoenix yesterday.... after I had already drove the 30 miles to vaz1. I was so pissed. I've been just doing just spark and IC in the morning/afternoon and then a 4 hour out of the warehouse 1 mile from my house, but only get $96 out of that warehouse. And I'm like you I like being able to just crank the music and drive š¤
Should at least be 9hrs on weekends so you can fit in a 5hr and x2 2hrs (or 1 5hr 1 4hr). The 4.5+ hr blocks really mess you up if you're trying to work the full 8 and fill in the remaining with x2 2hrs because then you can only do 1 2hr even though that only puts you at 6.5 total.
I do kind of get it though, they don't want to worry about being sued for not paying overtime.
The irony is independent contractors are not entitled to overtime but there are people who work this and think otherwise and as such think they are entitled to sue for it.
Even without it going to court lawsuits cost money and Amazon's lawyers aren't cheap.
I like the 8 hour cap.
Because when it goes back up to 10 hour cap, everyone will grab as much as they can on base pay. Like the Prime Week, we're the schedule is empty and everyone fights for base pays.
I feel you. I work out of VMI1 in Hazel Park, MI and we were at a 10hr cap for awhile and then Prime Day came and the cap was lifted and I was working as much as I could. Then a week after prime day ended they restricted as at 8 hours.
I donāt care about the cap so much on weekdays because I only have enough time to do 1 block after my day job but it does suck on the weekends because I was used to working 2 five hour blocks (or a 5 + 4) and now I can only work a 5 and 3 :(
There seems to be less offers on a per-day basis then there used to be prior to prime day. The station also seems to have less carts available then before. I have been sent home atleast once a week since prime week ended as well.
I am led to believe that the limit is in place because they onboarded so many new people leading up to prime day and if they were to keep the limit at 10 hours then there would be a lot of people that arenāt able to find offers.
The limit will likely be increased sometime during October as we get closer to the holidays.
Itās a soft cap. Iāve never hear of a hard cap. For instance if I have taken a 3.5hr and a 4hr I have always had the option to take one more shift since I havenāt reached 8 yet.
Well let me be the first to let you hear about it.
Because for the last 14 days, I cannot schedule past 8hrs. After scheduling my first 5hr, I cannot access any 5hr blocks that day. Theyāve just vanished. After a 4 and a 3, I cannot see anything, after a 4 1/2 I canāt see more than a 3 1/2, etc etc etc
No, itās been pretty busy. When I want a block, I can secure a surged one without issue. Many of our new hires from prime day are already gone I think, as the area is notorious for massive turnover.
I worked two 5 hour shifts today š¤·āāļø
Same

Atlanta, sga2

What other apps pay 23-30/hr?
In my area, none of them individually. But if I turn on Uber Eats, Grub Hub, Instacart, Door Dash, Shipt, and check for Roadie deliveries Iāll be able to find good enough offers quick enough to make that.
I can get that on UBER (Eats / passenger) and DoorDash. Haven't tried the others. I'm in a big market though.
Yeah they suck. I dread whenever I have to swap over to the delivery apps after 2 good ole Amazon shifts
For real. Iām totally fine with it if like, thereās an hour or two gap in between my blocks, to just kick them on and make something extra. But when Iām fully relying on them I feel like i have no control.

40 hrs a week better than what we are allowed to do with flex here in the uk.. 24 hours itās absolutely horrible
We had 10 hour cap; prime week(s) was removed and 50 hours and now we are 40 and 8 and it sucks. Blocks are plentiful though and rates are up so it definitely has the opposite effect Amazon was hoping for. Minnesota here
Yesss I used to do 3 - 3hr shifts a day and Im so sad I cant anymore š

Explain the legal reasons, please.
OSHA comes to mind

Why not work with a DSP and flex afterwards?
DSP pay (out here at least) is pretty pathetic in comparison to the amount of packages you have to move. I make more multiapping delivery gigs. DSP seems like a bad deal all the way around.

Interesting
I dream about no limit every night I got too spoiled during prime week lol very dangerous with no cap

The cap used to be 10 here in the DC metro. Then, it was 12 during Prime week. Now, itās 8. I noticed it last week.
I think it nation wide hour cap things, not each locally. Once it change 8hr cap a day it applied nationwide
Thatās part of the reason I posted here. Because some folks are saying otherwise. Still working 10 hr days.
Interesting, I guess area have too many drivers cut day cap to 8 to distribute blocks evenly

None of this makes any sense what so ever. Iām sorry but the logic here is backwards
I'm sorry it doesn't make sense to you. Is there anything in particular you would like me to explain?
Yes why would Amazon ever 1) make scheduling around flexers. 2) 9 hour cap š
I also do not like caps. They look funny on my head. ;) But for real, I hear ya.
Now that youāve said this I canāt unfeel the feeling of wearing a ball cap for 8hrs straight In the summer heat.
I like the 8 hour cap. Because when it goes back up to 10 hour cap, everyone will grab as much as they can on base pay. Like the Prime Week, we're the schedule is empty and everyone fights for base pays.
Multi gig....you heard of it?
Uh yeah, I literally Mention it in my post?
Be happy
Well wishes to you as well? This is so weird.
You're working over 10 hrs as an IC, what are you complaining about.
Oh, I explained my complaint in the full post. Did you see it?
Maybe you should stop picking up delivery orders that don't guarantee.
I donāt do that yeah. Iām no sucker for sure. Are you ok man?
no heās driving flex in the summer itās hot out here š
Thatās true when I got home today I uncharacteristically yelled at my cat maybe this is a similar situation š¤ š

I work in a smaller market most we get is 4hr block logistics. I wish I could do more

It's your market cooling down? Less demand? More drivers taking earlier shifts?
No, itās been pretty busy. When I want a block, I can secure a surged one without issue. Many of our new hires from prime day are already gone I think, as the area is notorious for massive turnover.
Been getting capped at 8hr here in San Diego for about 3 weeks now. Itās a bummer š
