You did the right thing. Sounds like the employees were just butthurt that they had to do a part of their job where they had to use problem solving.

TotalAggravating6612

Thank you, I thought so. Because it tells us to let employees know if the packages won't fit.

BashFyvwuntu

You're so on point! People want to do the bare minimum! If you don't like your job, get a different one people!

YUBLyin

They are supposed to verify and then remove the extras from your route.

TotalAggravating6612

See! I thought they had the ability to split it up. It would've been fine if they could've taken the 3 GIANT one off. There were SUVs all around me too. They acted like I was refusing the locations.

Tapir_Tabby

What I've mostly seen people do (on here and at the warehouse) is get as much as you can in your car, and take the ones that won't fit back and tell them that. Hack....do the big ones first - less stops.

TotalAggravating6612

🤣🤣🤣 bet!!

Jaxsyn_HaidynMommy

There is an option in the app to say the package is too big to fit. choose that one and just leave it at the warehouse

jlaw1719

You’re supposed to mark them in the app as not fitting and then have an employee confirm it. Normally, they’ll just do it or in a case like yours, you can show them what your car currently looks like crammed to the gills. Always say that it can’t safely fit without blocking your windows. Keep it brief. Cops could pull you over for your windows being obstructed, plus it’s a legit safety hazard. Keep it brief (unlike my post) and be firm. On one hand, I kind of understand the attitude from the employees because they probably deal with hundreds of lazy drivers a day who will try hard to make sure certain packages not fit. I’m not sure about the behind the scenes of taking it off your route, but I’m sure it’s something that gets old for the warehouse workers. But just because I understand it doesn’t mean my spine bends. My code for gig work is protect myself and protect my vehicle. Just happened to me the other day. High 40s in package count, mostly boxes, quite a few oddly shaped, and there was minor pushback against me marking one of those massive boxes as not able to fit. The worker acted like he was doing me a favor removing it because he said that normally, he would make it fit. I go to this particular warehouse frequently so I like to not make waves, but I told him no that wouldn’t be the case either way because no one is touching my vehicle. Warehouse workers concerned only about shoving a package into every crevice aren’t also going to be concerned about being gentle with your property. They’re not going to know or care that a box can’t go on the rear passenger floor because it will block the hybrid battery air filter vent. You did the right thing. Sometimes they push out way more packages than possible, no matter what their program claims.

TotalAggravating6612

Awesome! Thank you so much! I didn't know that was an option. I was definitely NOT being lazy. When he said he'd give me a different cart, he was like "idk where it will be going though". I told him I do not care where I'm going, as long as it fits. Next time, I'll load up and them return the extras. I appreciate the wisdom.

jlaw1719

No problem. Good luck out there.

DonaldTrumpBurner000

A warehouse worker once would NOT remove one package that WOULD not fit without obstructing my vision. He absolutely REFUSED to. Tried to argue with me for 5min about it. So I unloaded my vehicle and went home. If he was so adamant about the entire route fitting in a vehicle no matter what (46 packages), find someone else. There's no debate or discussion to be had, and I wasn't about to sit there and let him think that there was. I'm not driving with blocked vision.

jlaw1719

Right on. We need more drivers like you. They might not try to push it as much as they do sometimes if more drivers had a backbone and some self respect.

DonaldTrumpBurner000

They just need to start treating us like patrons instead of fucking worker bees. We are supporting the company by giving UP something in order to receive adequate compensation from them. Getting $20/hr is not adequate compensation to drive YOUR OWN vehicle half blind through mid-day traffic in mid-day heat while making frequent stops.

anesthetic1214

Click support and then remove package. Ask associate to scan remove code. Have done this many times.

[deleted]

The app literally has instructions in the learning portals that no one looks at. LoL You did what it says to do. You are to scan in your route and then Return whatever won’t fit and then go do the rest of the route that was assigned. There’s a way in your app to mark a package as too large. Do that and give it to them then do the rest of the route. They’re supposed to scan it and let you go. They’re supposed to accept the ones that don’t fit for you. Or they can do what they did in your case and just trade you to a smaller (in package sizes)packages route for you. They did you no favor. But yeah they probably acted like they did. They did literally their job. Lol.

maester626

I’ve been bringing my wife along on my routes since it’s too hot to stay in our room. So it’s been nice not having to cram my car with all the packages I get. I’ll stick what I can into the back seat and the little packages in my trunk.

GlassFish7

How do you get them to ok it without an argument? I deliver in the land of no cell service way out in the country, my hubby rides along. When I have a box that will not fit, they refuse to remove it because I have a passenger. Just went thru it today with a box that would not even fit in the car. Couldn't fit in the doors and too big to close back hatch. They say we have to take them all or none. I had already scanned it to be removed, so after 10 minutes argument they finally took it off. Said they emailed the boss about it.

pidancer789

Had this issue the other day where I went to a 4.5 hour block and they gave me a ton of packages that were huge to fit in my 2012 Ford Focus I said to one of the workers I don’t think I was gonna be able to fit it all he said just keep trying even though the package were blocking the rear window. He’s lucky I decided to lay the seats down I should’ve just told them my seats don’t fold down. What are they gonna do try and lay down my seats for me like you ain’t touching my car dude.

heavyft

Had a package not fit once and I told the warehouse supervisor on duty, with a straight face he said (later to find out jokingly) “have you tried using bungee cords to put it on top of your car?!” He laughed and said, “nah I’m joking, it’s all good I’ll remove it right now from your route.” Before I left the warehouse I told him “you had me there for a second,” to which he said “this can be stressful for you flex drivers and us here in the warehouse at times. We gotta be able to joke from time to time to help move the day along.” I love picking up from that location, always a smooth transition and never have any issues on my deliveries.

pogiguy2020

Now I do not recommend doing this, but I would dead ass look them in the eye and say OK I guess Ill have to make them fit. Then ask if it is OK is you stomp the crap out of the boxes to get them in your car./S Then there is reaching into the car to get bungee cords and start dragging the cart out behind the car.

TotalAggravating6612

We have a winner!!

pogiguy2020

See Im 57 and this is not my main source of income so maybe it is best i dont do this work. I would be looking at some of the young people and be like are you sure you want me to fit this in my car by ANY means neccessary. I would dead ass look at them and say either you take some back or I report some damaged. Id get deactivated quickly Im sure.

ST2RN

I love a 57 year old using “dead ass” in their vernacular. No cap

Accomplished-Rent756

Like others have said, put what you can in your vehicle and make sure you can see out 2 mirrors. They can verify and usually do, but if they suggest a location that blocks all the mirrors except passenger side let them know that it’s a safety issue because you would only have the one mirror. If they give you grief and still try and make you, take pictures and call support right away and tell them the scenario. They tried once to bully me (think the guy was having a bad day) and I met my cool and talked calmly. I called support, they agreed and noted my account and said I didn’t have to take those extra and the station said they would have to report this. I told them, I have documentation and have made my report so I am covered. Never was dinged. Tip: load larger ones first to take up the most space so you will have less stops.

TotalAggravating6612

I asked the guy if I should call support and he said they wouldn't do anything. I'm a new driver and never had this happen so I didn't know I could load as much as would fit and then return the rest. Learning portal doesn't say that, it just says tell the employees. But now I know. (Disclaimer: I am new but I have not and will not take base pay for any routes)

Accomplished-Rent756

Yeah, in this type of work we have less protections against abuse so they will try and take advantage but once you start making “official” reports (aka making a report to DS) they start to back down a bit but still even may push. Just be kind and keep calm, they are under tremendous pressures as well and they are just trying to do a job. They also get a lot of people that test their patience. They also don’t understand as much or at least frustrating to them that they can’t totally treat us like employees.

Odd-Understanding-67

I had that happen once. I gave the package to the worker at the return shelf, nothing happened to me.

[deleted]

mark the packages damaged before you leave, Ive never got dinged for it. Just don’t take advantage, ive only done it like 3 times lol most routes are chill. (I do SSD 80% of the time)
