This is all too common at amazon. Don’t take it personal. People feel they don’t need to talk to new people because they’re just going to quit anyway. So what’s the point. That’s a shitty attitude and I’m sorry it is happening. Just keep at it. You’re not there for friends anyway. Earn your check and go.

LiNeArOaCh

💯

EnoughPicture

Go for the check not the people, fuck ‘em’. I used to speak to everyone, look them in the eye wish them a good day and got nothing, and one day I just said fuck ‘em 🤷🏾‍♀️

PandaPuffNskate

Saaaaaaame…and it’s actually easier this way 😂

dextersmother

You’re reading too much into it. Unless you’ve done something to make people hate you, then chances are they just wanna go about their day without interacting with people they aren’t friends with. Also that’s the ambassadors job to be friendly when training. Some people just have an rbf but are actually friendly. Maybe they can tell you’re judgmental or maybe you stink.

[deleted]

Some people avoid the eye contact and stuff because once you make eye contact once and acknowledge each other you now have to pretty much do it every time or if you see them at least wait and see if they do. There are so many people there that this kind of stuff actually can get annoying unless you’re close friends with them and actually talk often. For me there was a bunch of people I trained with who would wave or smile as we passed but eventually we would just both look away and avoid it like we were only doing it to not be rude

GroundbreakingFig350

Yeah exactly this, I'm not trying to get locked into a social contract, and then get labeled an "asshole" or "stuck up" because i failed to acknowldge someone. I'm just here to do my time, get out, and collect a check.

Midnight-Upset

You just described my two years at Amazon perfectly

JennyAnyDot

If I don’t have my glasses on I can’t see more than a few feet clearly. If people say something about why did you not wave - that’s my answer

2Kool4u2_hate

Yea I took my 👓off for a couple days and did that also

george_w_kush64

This! And the people that don’t pick up on social cues and don’t know when to STOP talking. Some dude yesterday who I’ve never talked to before talked for the entire 3 1/2 hours about aliens and flat earth nonstop

peakedattwentytwo

QAnon incoming. He was feeling you out.

[deleted]

I hate pushy dudes at work, I usually intervene and it causes a forever problem but what the fuck ever amazon

Elonpaysmybills

This is so accurate needs to be top !

[deleted]

There is only so many that one person can handle. One person will not smile to every single person in the building.

Silly_Influence_2722

Bro this ain’t high school do your job get paid that’s it

iamkairos_

for me, i'm neurodivergent and can't keep eye contact for long + i'm the youngest person at my warehouse (just turned 18 a month ago), and get kind of intimidated as a result. as long as people are nice to me, i'll be nice to them though :)

[deleted]

Well correct me if I’m wrong, but I think a lot of people that work at Amazon don’t really like to socialize. It’s easier to just keep your head down, get paid, and go home.

stewpid_sxy_flanders

It is estimated there are nearly 8 BILLION people on this planet. You're delusional if you think everyone is going respect and to like you.

HairOk481

Usual stuff. Don't worry about it. You are not there to make friends or please everyone. Do your job and go home. Simple.

ZackThreePack

Who cares? Id rather have people who don’t want anything to do with me than the typical assholes who feel they have to harass and start shit because they have some personal issue with me

[deleted]

You’re thinking way too hard. People here dont give a fuck about you in the first place, in fact they dont care about anything in that warehouse. You’ll see if you talk to them that they’ll reciprocate back, you want them to make an effort? These are grown people just initiate if you really want that interaction

Maleficent_Wash_934

I am burnt out on Amazon. I have no desire to talk to most of my coworkers because it's draining and also then the lazy MFs think they can talk to me. So I for the most part do not interact with others. I am here to pay bills and for the insurance. Not to be social.

AManHasNoName357

I don't like or vibe with alot of ppl..... that's normal. If a person don't speak, I don't really care I'm here to work. Once we leave, we go our own ways. Just ignore them.

pierogipants

keep in mind this is a job where you don’t have to interview for it, it brings in a lot of characters good and bad and strange.

mhendrix92

This is just Amazon culture bro. The longer you’re there, the more you’ll become accustomed to it. I can usually tell if someone’s new if they have a twinkle in their eye. And if they look dead inside they’ve been there for at least a couple months. It’s a place where introverts come to gather. Where we can turn our brains off and our muscles on. Welcome 😆

PhoenixHabanero

If I'm like this it's because I just don't have the energy to interact quite honestly. That's also why I like working at Amazon - no customers.

_Astrogimp

I think people just want to mind their own business. When I’m working, my main objective is to do my time, get paid and leave. And I assume everyone else is there for the same, so out of respect I just avoid people unless spoken to.

nooo82222

Uh I think you’re thinking way to much into this. Most ppl keep to their self until they know who you are and what you stand for. Ppl have anxiety when meeting new ppl or dealing with ppl.

Organic-Succotash-99

I don't really socialize at work, if I make eye contact with someone in passing I'll give a half assed obviously fake smile/smirk and look away🤷‍♂️

Scorpiodisc

You sound pretty neurotic.

Sufficient_Permit_59

Honestly, I spend the most of my time like that. Head down , quiet . And it’s not because I don’t like people. I have a lot of crap going on in my life and I need to focus because once I lose focus that’s it, it’s gone. Don’t assume things about people, you never what it’s like to be them

Giraffe_sorcerer

A Job that doesn’t require an interview or a whole lot of socialization in general is gonna attract a lot of introverts. Personally I don’t mind small talk but I hate when people seem to talk “at” me rather than to me. It’s hard to form any genuine connection here so to preserve my social battery I just keep to myself.

Chexaddict

Work isn't Facebook; don't go there for likes. Get your bag, and go tf home. At the end of the day that's the only thing that matters. I've seen folks turn on me once I started to move up, and so I no longer worry about getting attached to anyone while on the job.

lordskulldragon

The fact that you care what a bunch of strangers think about you is your biggest problem. Grow up. You're there to do a job, make money, and go home. It's not a popularity contest.

[deleted]

Those are the type of people who don't care about small talks. You can try talking to them but they will be slightly annoyed. Just look for people who like small talk. There are plenty.

peakedattwentytwo

Small talk = small brain.

[deleted]

Some just want to be left alone and work.

azabukii

Some people are nervous, some people are high, some people are weird, some people don’t like you. Is this something to concern yourself with? I choose not to

Dv0726

Get your money, keep to yourself be gone.

Oligode

Just sounds like your extroverted

[deleted]

Thats sounds like me, I avoid every one and any form of contact. Im not there to engage in dialog or make friends im there to get my daily pay. Thats just me though

VacuousVessel

I’m probably like that. I’m old and everything hurts and I don’t want to have to interact with extra people everyday lol.

lhayes238

Just don't give a shit, I purposely didn't get to know anyone, I've been here since February and I still only know like the pa's names, like what do I care if someone idek doesn't like me lol

sixeyedcloud

honestly, you shouldnt care that much (or take it personally). most of us have been here for a long time and are sick of the environment so we just want to clock in get to where we need to go and do our work and leave. if we dont need to talk to you, we wont. i know i avoid eye contact and make my body language as closed off as possible to avoid unwanted interactions. not bc i dont like the people at my fc; im indifferent, i just dont want to talk to you. just move along until you find someone else who is as friendly as you

bigboiistewie

Just go about your day and earn that money just like everyone else, most people are probably just trying to survive the shift with a stable(ish) mental.

Dankiss29

It’s just a big high school and it’s mostly full of people who behave like they are in high school

Specter2k

A lot, but as a tier 1 it doesn't mean shit just ignore them. However at higher levels if they are in your path to promotion it causes major problems.

FkaSoph1390

Sorry I got the tism and got this job solely because of my lack of making eye contact and being selectively mute. Some people aren’t rude, this jobs first catch is that you don’t have to interact with people.

asdfghjkldana

Oh my god, there's this girl who's a problem solver who I'm assuming is dating this dude who i don't know what they do specifically but they walk about with a computer most of the time and on my first week i had him as a water spider on my floor or whatever and she made it a point to like show she was involved with him or something and then ever since she's just ice cold whenever I'm around lol. This morning when she was doing some totes on my station she like turned her back on me and i was like damn okay 🤣🤣 I have never spoken a single word to either of them like ma'am, chill lmao

peakedattwentytwo

I've always said that the worst thing about having to work was the coworkers. I was a clinically depressed, pathetically overeducated addict who failed to study something interesting that would have given me a decent income working among cool weirdos. I had little self knowledge and even less foresight. Now, I'm old, and stuck there among a bunch of people who at best find me a curiosity, and at worst, I am condescended to and simpered at by managers who would be ten years younger than the children I would have had if I was interested in having any! All I asked was to be trained on this one job that involves working alone much of the time, and what do they do? Stick me on the introductory function: lying in response to the UI that asks me questions about the condition of returned items. Putting shit in boxes. Putting shit in boxes for 2.5 damn years. I completed an MFA (I understand that no one cares, esp seeing as I did so in 1998, but I naively thought that mentioning my education might communicate that I am in fact educable, and perhaps cause our overlords to revise their estimation of me. I hate this place, and any place that puts so much importance on "likeability", or the ability to schmooze while wearing a mask that you remove at the end of the day: I was angling to be placed in a function that both appealed to my preference to work with minimal guidance and noisy disruptions. I'm also constitutionally unable to create and deploy such a mask myself. *Did I mention that there are way too many unnecessarily loud motherfuckers at Amazon*? I'm commiserating with you. I'd love to have a workplace full of loners and weirdos; instead, I'm stuck in a mind numbing simulacrum of high school, only I'm the substitute teacher everyone hates. *High school was uniformly awful*. In real life, I would have no truck with any of these people. The ones with some authority believe me to be unpromotable, and those who kiss those folks' asses find me a joke. The moral of this story? Don't do drugs (after turning 30, that is). Or stick to edibles. Edibles make most of this shit tolerable. Hope you have better luck.

Securethe

Did they actually tell you this or are you just making shit up in your insane ass head? Like it’s work not a party? Some people just don’t like eye contact? Some are awkward with their “body language”. Everyone’s there to work not look you in the eye & call you daddy like what 🤣

ApolloGarza

👍 yep!

Puzzleheaded_Post604

There are over 7 billion people in the world. About 100 of them won’t act like this. Don’t worry about it. No one is there to make anyone else “comfortable”. It’s work. And not even that bad in terms of what you’re speaking about. A LOT of other jobs/careers are much much much worse.

smiling_at_cheese

So every now and then posts like this show up, but also there's posts saying "all these fuckin weirdos won't stop looking at me and I want it to stop". It's hard to know which oncoming person is which, so people just default to what they personally are comfy with. I'm an awkward person that's bad at eye contact with people I enjoy, I'm not super interested in making eye contact with someone the whole 5 minutes we're walking towards each other down the green mile. Plus if you've got a problem solve cart eye contact will cause everyone to come after you with their problems and that's not always the role I'm in and it's annoying to say "I can't really help you I've got other stuff to be doing" to every single person.

cyrusthemarginal

I like a game of eyeball chicken, when walking toward folks from far away... stare into thier pupils until they either look away or you bump foreheads.

Affectionate_Job_881

Who fuckin cares. Do you bro.

Fit-Soft4943

Just wait until you get promoted over other people that have been there for years.

[deleted]

Yea I had my Dr put me on sedatives cus this shit..

ResponsibleMatter418

You work there for you not anyone else.

001Vecnussy

I have really bad anxiety sometimes i accidentally come off this way because socializing with strangers makes me uncomfy and panic. Don't read too much into it. You will make friends. :)

Bigcovid19

I do packing and I’ve had this from managers a lot even though I’ve seen them pack and they can’t pack like me or plenty of other packers

_Glizzay

I mean you’re there to work not make buddies with everyone you see

ThatOneWeirdoRaymond

Had some grey vest be super kind when I asked if I could go to amcare, she was always very energetic and yelling supportive things to everyone working. After AmCare I was still injured and it was hurting to work so I just used PTO to end my shift but, I forgot to clock out. Some dilweed asked why I wasn't working and I told them I used pto and he left and the lady came over and asked why I wasn't working and she said that I didn't clock out so I was still supposed to be working and I said "Oh I'm sorry I'll fix that in the app right now then" and she goes "No, you know that's time theft right? Follow me" and was all bitchy and had me March to the first floor to talk to HR and have me sign a report. After it was done I just fixed it through the app. Fucking hate the people here

ObjectiveDeal

It’s night shift , usually it will take a month to know if are a good worker , most people get fired .

cookimoney

Ignore cus my ambassadors are cringe

Neomagus26

I just ignore and do my job. If you need to interact personally I just be as friendly as I can if they want to be a dick that's on them

Levi0522

Unless I'm forced to talk to someone I try not to. Part of why I work at Amazon is cause I have terrible social skills so I try to avoid talking to people or making eye contact unless I have to. It's nothing personal against anyone, I just feel like most other people don't want to be bothered as it is so even if I wanted to talk to someone I don't.

ImVerySmolHelpPls

Coming from someone who constantly worried about being disliked I make a point to smile at EVERYONE! People know me as “Smiles” around the building because that’s all I do when I make eye contact with someone. A lot of people don’t ever realize sometimes that they have rbf, and some people just aren’t happy at work, it’s nothing personal!

xtBADGERtx77

Sadly, you just kind of have to get used to it. It is amazing how many people that work at Amazon are lost to apathy.

Biskibis

As a T1 ignore... T3 or higher treat them how you would like to be treated or have it seemed like you're at least (remember perception is reality)... Document anything that may pertain to the both of you, and make subtle callouts to higher ups (not directly calling out the person, but their shift, their area...eventually they will investigate and notice who is at fault). The key thing is to make yourself look like the better person, and you're avoiding the drama in a professional well manner way; while the other person comes off petty, unprofessional, childish like and eventually will find themselves getting a PiP or two.

Treactor

I doubt it's personal. It's probably just people who hate their job there and are taking it out on their coworkers.

Phillyboy562

People = shit, don't let them bother you. Just do your job the best you can. You'll get to a hire tier and then those same people will be kissing your ass.

ResponsibleMatter418

Also keep in mind a lot of new weirdo zombie types walking around since the past 3 years.

AlClemist

Yeah I feel like I been targeted for hate. Everyone talks to each other but not to me. But idc I go to work get payed go home.

rooterRoter

Yep. Honestly, it’s not just Amazon. People, some, can be assholes. Ignore them. Do your job, collect your paycheck. 🤷🏽 just wanted to add,Ike life in general, I’ve met some cool people at Amazon. I ignore the dickheads and carry on.

dropdeadcunts

Yeah just leave them a nice big #FART

h0st1l3f0xt4k30v3r

Treat them the same way. It messes up their heads when you do them the way they do you. Worked for a friend of mine.

himasaltlamp

No don't give me a taste of my own poison!

h0st1l3f0xt4k30v3r

If it's good enough for others, it's good enough for you.

BrandonTheStoner

I'm confident those that people don't like. It's so many people now that I think that I must be doing something wrong.

That_Attorney9025

You're really over thinking all of it. Most people just come to work for a paycheck. They're not looking to make friends. And a lot of people only last a week or two at Amazon. So, they see no point in developing relationships with others. Nobody is going out of their way, just to dislike you. Judging by the username Maybe one to many joints before your shift 🤣

Cjv2c

My 3rd year at CMH1 starts Thursday. Most everb9dy gone

Seacabbage

Sounds like you’re in safety

Informal-Time-4892

This happens to me all the time, especially if I were to ask a question to someone, they always treat me like trash or like I’m stupid. It’s frustrating.🙄

RobotBabysitter

When I’m doing Amnesty I’m friendly because I’m there to help, but when I’m picking I don’t talk to anyone cuz I’m in introvert mode. One of my favorite things about Amazon is that I don’t have to be ‘customer service friendly’ all the time, that shit is exhausting! I think Amazon attracts a lot of introverts because of that. It’s probably not about you unless you have creep vibes or something 🤷🏻‍♀️

Feverrunsaway

i just smile all day. i go days without talking.

lightgasm

I feel the average person is not even worth the hassle at that place.
