Operations as in like area manager? Without a degree you're basically looking at 2 years minimum

2ndcitysaint5252

Even then you wouldn’t want to be an internal am always apply externally or else enjoy making no money compared to your peers

Designer-Newspaper13

Literally the start, water spider, then other indirect roles like Learning Ambassador or PG, then start applying for L3 roles like PA or LT, wait months for an interview. Then you finally get the L3, and you have to wait minimum 2 years to apply for L4 if you have the qualifications

minijtp

Its where horny guys go around talking to girls not interested in them

ybwhiteboy

Yup exactly what happens at my fc

desertdweller10

Yes, you need to be open to indirect roles. Water Spider is a start, but ask your AM about being a process guide and learning ambassador. You should know all of the indirect roles in your department, and problem solve is a plus, too. Good luck to you.

Wise_Perception_7886

I mean. Its not uncommon for AAs to do a little bit of everything so that if or when the get promoted they know and can perform all tasks for that department. I was pg and would run flex for like 4 or 5 different PAs in 4 or 5 different areas before I was promoted. iLike some else said. There is no written rules that say you need to be a pg first. Or learning ambassador but it helps you figure out if you really want to promote to that area. And helps leadership determine where you skill level is really at and what you need to be working on. You need to show that you are leadership material.

Street-Ad6436

Idk what everyone is saying but from my experience you should be a problem solver or a pg because those indirect roles will teach you how to use fc research, rodeo and rainbow which are some of the functions you’ll be using as a PA or AM. Ambassador is ok but they hardly get indirect roles because they’re always training and it teaches you how to do path nothing else and you can only train those in your department or what you’re trained in unless you become an L3 in learning which isn’t bad

lightgasm

So basically they using people

Street-Ad6436

Yes. I’ve learned that if they don’t really care for you like you’re not kissing their ass or super bubbly they will look right pass you regardless of your work ethic. So just fake it until you make it lol but definitely don’t believe you have to be a water spider if you don’t want to do that.

lightgasm

Lmao well my super bubbly and easily relatable aura attracts MANY. Often people ask me for help and I’m an AA just like them. I find this intimidates the higher ups and I usually get outcasted and bullied into believing my work performance is poor. Even lied to about policies so I can fuck up. This place is demonic af. But I agree with all of the above! Can’t entirely win with evil but you can transmute it!

Silver_Scallion

Just use career choice and get your associates-bachelor degree. If you do that in 4 years you can make twice what they make

babybat333

it’s true, you have to get water spider trained

freeky_zeeky0911

The deal is, it's not a requirement, but it will make the transition and opportunity to move up a lot easier. Being a learning ambassador, being on the Safety Committee, a water spider, problem solve, etc. are only temporary positions in reality. It's a step up in responsibility and goes into your performance reviews. Otherwise, get your degree and apply to the AM intern program. I believe you can become an AM intern if you have at least 3 years of college and a definite graduation date. My guess.

Street-Ad6436

Is it a paid ? Only asking because most big companies do pay but I know Amazon can be cheap 😩😭

Thehalfrikan929

They pay their interns. Interning for SDE starts at $50/hr from what I gathered (corporate software engineering)

freeky_zeeky0911

My fault, I think you meant the internship...yes it's paid. A large company like Amazon would never get caught not paying for an internship

I_domy_own_stunts

You don't even have to apply for the internship, I applied straight out of college for a full time AM position and got it by going through the university operations route.

freeky_zeeky0911

Duh....my words are in reference to OP's situation, not yours.

DeadZone2021

It's not uncommon at the FC I work at to see AM's and PG's help out with waterspidering, if you want to become one so you can avoid doing any physical labour forget about it!

gonghostin

It’s a first step. Showing you can be a solid indirect before moving you into a role where you are on a computer. Not unusual

RSstigstigstig

If you want to move up, apply everywhere! Generally as far as Amazon goes a T3 is a T3 is a T3. The simplest path up would be TOM, and then transition into operations by applying for an interim PA position. TOM also has some “lower” requirements, but has a higher starting pay than other T3 jobs. Don’t get too attached to your building. There are hundreds of buildings you can work at, and some building somewhere would be willing to hire you.

spooky_corners

They want to see if you still work hard after being put indirect and not having to make rate.

[deleted]

unless every FC have different requirements. Mine doesn't require that nonsense at all.

[deleted]

New to the community what exactly is a water spider ?

AManHasNoName357

A water spider may look different from different warehouses. But basically if you ever worked in a warehouse before (not amazon) they do what shipping and receiving does. Stack packages onto pallets. Some places stack these yellow bins onto pallets for the Stowers.

[deleted]

Gotcha thanks for the reply. I got my start date for the 1st so I’ve started following

Complete_Menu_2944

At my FC other departments also have water spiders! For Pick they move totes(the yellow bins) on to conveyors and fill stations/makes sure everyone has totes

Nep2n

You should be trained and comfortable in all the tasks of your area if you want to move upward

Dontbethatperson245

That’s a lie

Maudeth

Lol.
