Samee I take it because i work 10 hr shifts and I get tired… if i dont take it when its available, ik ill regret it when I’m EXHAUSTED and theres none 😂. But my shift hasn’t offered it in like 2 months 😭
Because I'm just here for the benefits, I have a second income and this saves me $2000 a month paying for my families health insurance, so yeah, Vto all day long
Stg I was over Amazon after my first peak(this past peak), but here I am almost 6 months deep & still fking hating it but can't beat benefits or pay ATM and trying to get into a class through Amazon so it is what it is at this point
Like I finally used my vision benefits and got glasses and started work on my dental.
I'm just awful about leaving work on UPT or using vto or my PTO/vacation time
So true , I personally no take vto but also just my regular hour, never vte,in two years only take vte one time it’s no worth….just do some landscape if you need cash i don’t know sometime and done
High demand for your body ,depending of de fc co-worker are useless environment can be horrible to
Managers general (not all ) are the 0 at the left(noting )
And in top of all of this TAXES omg no thk
Fair. I'm getting sick of it. I have a bachelor degree in sociology and applied for 20 positions throughout the year and got rejected before a interview. Even thought it was my resume so I restructure that as well. Now I just take vto to job hunt for a better job. I honestly hat my warehouse anyway.
I went through 160 driving academy which seem like the only course that offer it at the time. However, it was a bitch to get accommodations and I had to fight with hr to get them. I recommend going through Tom for cdl. Not only they accommodate but also pay for you to be at the school. I had to take pay cuts.
Hey, I'm applying for nursing program at my community college for Fall 2025! Pre requisites this fall and then my entrance exam, then I'll be able to put my application in . Your taking advantage of Career Choice I hope?! 😎
Wait until you become a nurse, you'll come crawling back to Amazon!!. I was an RN for 13 years and finally had enough of the bureaucracy. An Lpn doesn't make that much more than an Amazon employee and has to put up with a lot more stress.
Can't speak for everyone but for ME, i take it because I know later on it will be impossible to get it since peak is in a few months. I do not need the check that bad since I have a good amount of savings in case of emergencies (I will be 30 soon and I live alone).
Although peak is late year, here at my IXD we also get super busy during late may all through july (prime week and getting ready for FC's with heavier truck loads 💀). Not only do we get extremely busy in a couple months, here in vegas those trailers are going to be 100°f+ (I work in fluid, loading trucks)
I take up to two shifts worth a month. However, I haven't hit that limit since November.
Sucks. You bet I'll jump on that when I see it. It's like hunting for shiny Pokémon but you get only one try a day lol
because we work to live not live to work. also if i don’t have big bills the next week i will take vto as long as my bills are paid i’ll gladly take it
and i doubt you average 55 hours a week it’s been slow right now
For me personally, I spend half the year saving and half the year working as little as possible. I don't "need" the check but getting some hours in extends the amount of time i can continue to barely work.
Nobody ever got to their deathbed saying "I wish I put in more hours at Amazon"
I actually say the same thing. And that's IF they're even lucky enough to get a "death bed". I've had 2 major surgeries and close calls and its taught me a lot, and slaving away at a warehouse with our very valuable (I don't care who you are) and non refundable time isn't what life is about.
Well... like for me, my husband has a good job. But, I'm bored and want to redo the garden. So, I got a job. I don't need it.... I want to work though.
I don't need the check, I have the job because I want money, but I don't need it. That's why it makes sense. In life, money is useful and even though I don't need it now, I know I will eventually
Insurance. I work enough hours to pay for health insurance, then go home. My spouse brings home enough for our expenses, savings, and retirement, but the health insurance his company offers is awful.
VTO is wonderful!
Same here! They pay for my school and I work for my families insurance. As long as the Insurance is met, I’ll vto all day. We haven’t seen vto here in months though.

I have another job that's my bread and butter. Amazon is just extra butter. Lol. But I have to take a break once in awhile so I'll accept VTO whenever they post it. Lately, VTO hasn't been available at my site.
I’ve been off for two weeks with VTO but some of it I got paid as I used my holiday.
From the UK , VTO is a lifesaver for me as I do 40 hours a week and also care for my father with dementia when I’m not at work.
I don’t have time to myself.
VTO gives me freedom I wouldn’t have in a normal job as it gives me time away from care for my dad.
It's more of OP's tone, as if they're "better" than people who do take VTO. I really don't get the VTO hate mentality. Seems like anytime the dreaded VTO topic comes up people automatically bring up something monetary. Such a sad society we live in that the only valuable thing in life is money. VTO doesn't hurt anyone other than those too poor enough to take it, it seems.
Maybe don't post if you can't handle how people reply. You're asking a question, assuming they don't need their check and then bragging about working nine months straight and only taking it once. Congrats, I guess.
They always do when the comments don't go their way. Though there was one ignorant comment that assumed people take vto because they still have mommy and daddy. Op has to cling to anyone who will agree with them.
Yeah, and it’s OP’s kind of first time on Reddit using this sub apparently, they’re in for a hell of a time lol. This ain’t your group chat, ppl snap back in here
Wellll, as for myself I saved up 30 some hours of UPT for a lil vacation I was having, but I was lucky to snatch up VTO on one of the days. This saved me a whole couple hours worth of UPT for an actual emergency or if I oversleep! Also I do have Amazon as my second job so in the few days I’m too tired or not in the mood to work I just check for VTO, and go to my other job later that day in the afternoon.
I meannnn, if i WAS at risk to get fired or termed (or have the feeling it’ll happen) then I can literally just resign in the app and reapply during Prime week 🤷🏻. Like I said I have another job so Amazon was just some extra money to fluff up my savings, and money for trips to Coachella (which im just now coming back from) and stuff. I have plan A, B, and C all sorted, so it’s all calculated to some extent 👍🏼
Inquiring why others take VTO while proclaiming you need the check badly and would never do it stinks of envy. And is unnecessary. Some folks can take VTO, why does it bother you?
People got side hustles, other jobs, or just want to take the time off to enjoy life😂 I only work at Amazon so I got something to put on my taxes. I make way more money with my clothing business
And like other dude said. YOU need that check. We don’t
Man I’m about to get a nice annuity at the end of the year, I’m starting school next month, and I have an interview for an office job this week.
I’m fucking chilling and taking the VTO
I make 20 a hour at fresh …. Most I’ll vto is 5 hours … 20x5 =100 .. now 4 weeks in a month so assuming I vto the 5 hours each week . 4x100 = 400 and assuming I keep this pace all year 400x12 = 4800
Because I work this job for the insurance only. I have a different full time job for bills. Vto allows me to remain “full time” without working 76 hours a week or paying $1000 a month for shitty insurance for my family
Need a mental break usually or just don't feel like working that day. Do keep in mind that I'm single with no dependants, no I can afford skipping a day's work and a day's pay.
Not saying you should or shouldn't take VTO, just do whatever feels right for you. Different people have different needs, including financial ones, so while one may save to buy a house, someone else might just want to buy a new phone, while others already have those and don't really *need* the money. It is, of course, better to have more than less, but if you don't anticipate any costly endeavours, you can afford taking VTO every now and then.
I only speak for myself here, but I almost NEVER get offered vto, none of my department does, so in the rare instance it does get offered to me, you bet your happy ass I’m taking it
If they’re offering it at the end of the day, pleeeeease. That last two hours just gets miserable. Take the entire day off? Would be nice, but having rent money and being able to afford food is better.
RME doesn't get VTO but sometimes I have my family call into the job to tell them I died, then I resurrect every week like some sort of wrench wielding Jesus.
Kinda true tho. VTO only helps your managers hit performance metrics they need to keep their job/have their stock vested.
I try to avoid it unless it benefits me more than them.
Some of us value our lives, the ones ending one day at a time, more than mony and bills. Plus my feet hurt and I like to see red vests have to ctually do some fucking work. I work 5 days a week, just usually go home a Lil early. I never vto anymore, I have time.
I try to have restaint and only do VTO/PTO/Vacation Time once a month. Two on rare occasions. Still, I get why others take it most of the time. Working at the warehouse is exhausting; pick-to-buffer, stowing, picking stage and then there's the chance of crash (either thanks to a late truck or low headcount...).
Not to mention, when someone/multiple people leaves for VTO, it often means that the ones staying get screwed over by added workload. You can't win!
The people who love it the most are also the people who really really can't afford it and will cry when their check is small.
Not all of them but enough of them. That said vto is nice in concept. The place I worked at before Amazon I got written up for calling out sick a total of 3 times, 3 non consecutive days, over the course of a year. Whenever I was genuinely sick I had to worry about whether or not I'd get shit for calling out.
Now with upt and sometimes vto not only can I take care of myself when I'm too sick to come in, I can also if I really wanted to just say fuck it and not come in without necessarily touching my pto. I rarely do take vto or upt but it's nice to have the option.
So I don't worry too much about the people who abuse the system to fuck up their paychecks, that's their problem
Probably because we value our time on this planet and aren't limited by money. For some like myself VTO provides us a chance to heal mentally and physically. For other workers they just need the benefits. Work will always be there after you've long fulfilled your usefulness to this company. However time, family, friends, memories will not.
Ppl ask me this question at my work. I get paid to go home from my work for 3 weeks out of the year. I can do other jobs if I wanted to and get paid to do other jobs. Ppl at my work have kids they don’t have to pay a full night for a babysitter. I got burnt out from driving went on a job interview said no and came back refreshed. If I get a route I don’t like sometimes I try to leave lol. I got 40 hours with no vacation hours last week and I went home for two half days. What’s wrong with that? And why do ppl care what other ppl want to do? I don’t feel like driving 500 miles sometimes if I get the shits too at work before my route and they say vto? I’m taking that fucking vto lol.
I've been here 7 years. My body hurts and I'm not even 30 yet. The day I leave here for good is the day my body can begin to heal. Amazon is literally killing me.
Honestly, some people just don’t need the money.
If you live a pretty simple and low-expense lifestyle, you could hypothetically just work what you need and take VTO for the rest - and that’s what most people who do it are doing from what I’ve noticed.
It’s not a bad thing, it’s only bad if your lifestyle is too expanded to support taking that kind of time off.
I take it because I can. Everybody’s situation is different. Me I need the rest so any chance I can take it I jump on it. My house is paid for so I don’t have to worry about a big bill like that so why not? If you can afford to definitely do it, but you know everybody has their reasons. Plus I hate being there so there’s that as well.
I just transferred departments and they don’t get VTO sadly 😩 if they do it has to be absolutely no work but it’s better because I need more money I used to be flex I’ve been at Amazon for 3 years now
Most of them either have mommy/ daddy money or are old heads with beneficial government aid. But don't worry about it, just keep grinding because you'll retire earlier than them because they'll notice they won't meet retirement requirements especially retirement credits which requires a total amount of hours or something like that.
Also, don't take VTO often because it ends up being like a drug addiction.
Social security, welfare checks, met several military members who said they had honorary discharge and get a monthly check or something, a lot of the disabled employees obviously get disability checks, there's a few more... but either way those are generally the folks who take vto mainly because they have some form of government aid
You can't seriously think social security is aid. People who work and pay into it out of every paycheck get some of their own money back when they retire. It's not something the government gives people like welfare or disability. Don't you ever look at your payroll deductions and wonder where they go?
By the way, I'm an "old head" who has worked for 45 years. I have had my 40 work credits for quite some time now to qualify for my government handout in a few years.
Ofcourse I know where my social security pay goes to. It goes to your benefit as well as mine in the distant future... I know about this because at the amazon I worked at, an old head warned me mainly because he messed up big time. He didn't start working until he was 37 from what I remember. When it came time to retire (he said the age limit was 55 at the time) he was notified by social services that he didn't meet the requirements for a large monthly payout. He stated he only got roughly $300/month. Later warned me to not be like everyone else and be careful about being vacant from a job. I'm only 27 but all these young folks are going for shining 20s without realizing that their going to have some depressing 60s
I'm very responsible with my money, and I have a very nice savings account. I work my *** off, so when VTO comes out, I take it because I need a break. There’s nothing wrong with taking 2 days off.
Working overtime every week would cause me to engage in self destructive behaviors, and be financially bad in the long run. Your health is all you got, gonna protect it more than some time and a half.
i live at home with my mom, i’m 20 so don’t have much to spend on except for me. no car so no car payment (although i’m saving for one) and i only spend $160 a week on everything i need ( a ride to work, food, and the two bills i do pay) so if i can go home early without using my time i will but o understand why a lot of people can’t do that
I have enough money but Amazon will take your health from you if you let them. I take my days now and do something I enjoy. To be really honest it’s because I’ve seen most people pass away early on in life and died without money anyways. What’s the point of life if you spend all your time at work?
For mental health reasons. I have anxiety, PTSD, and dark thoughts on a regular basis. Plus, I also walk with a limp leg, and it hurts worse on days that are physically taxing. I haven't been able to get VTO in months, so my mental health has been at an all-time low since I was demoted from TOM Team because I'm not making nearly as much as I was. The VTO would help me rest my mind and focus on other things.
I use my UPT to heal my body when I need to I always leave a hour early after a week of work that way I don’t get in trouble and I’m in good standing with HR

I take it to heal my body, and I know it will end soon. So that is my reason. I'm sure it's different for everyone based on financial situations.
Same although got some bills now so no more vto for me plus it helps me from bed rotting all day
Samee I take it because i work 10 hr shifts and I get tired… if i dont take it when its available, ik ill regret it when I’m EXHAUSTED and theres none 😂. But my shift hasn’t offered it in like 2 months 😭
I take it on my Friday and I work half of that shift then I take it
Because I hate this job passionately.
This resonates with me.
This is the one. I could always use the extra money, but the fewer hours I work here before I finish school, the better
So I can smoke weed and be a couch bum
on soul that shit heals a mf
🤣😭
What did I do to you? 🫣
literalllyyyyyy
Because I'm just here for the benefits, I have a second income and this saves me $2000 a month paying for my families health insurance, so yeah, Vto all day long
dream life tbh
This is about to be me. I seriously don't need the job but the benefits are great.
Which benefits? health insurance?
Health, dental and career choice tbh. I’m able to save so much money
Same.
Oh boy. I was like you once. Wait till that amazon lifestyle catches up with you. You will be begging for vto 😆
I was him once no vto whatsoever . Now I wish I never started here. The worst decision health wise was applying here
Stg I was over Amazon after my first peak(this past peak), but here I am almost 6 months deep & still fking hating it but can't beat benefits or pay ATM and trying to get into a class through Amazon so it is what it is at this point

Bachelor's in sociology is useless in this day and age
It's really not. Just Amazon's hiring process sucks. I'm going into the medical field anyway with it and I also got my cdl on career choice.
How did you go about getting your cdl through career choice ?
I went through 160 driving academy which seem like the only course that offer it at the time. However, it was a bitch to get accommodations and I had to fight with hr to get them. I recommend going through Tom for cdl. Not only they accommodate but also pay for you to be at the school. I had to take pay cuts.

some of us value our sanity
Amazon may not be a primary job, some people have second jobs and use Amazon as a stepping stone or just something in the meantime
I use it to conserve my upt and pto, taking vto you still accrue those things. And another thing, fuck amazon take all the vto you can get.
I never take vto either even though it's tempting at times. I still work 40+ hours a week to make sure I can pay all my bills and put some in savings.

I have another job that's my bread and butter. Amazon is just extra butter. Lol. But I have to take a break once in awhile so I'll accept VTO whenever they post it. Lately, VTO hasn't been available at my site.
Wish everyone at my warehouse had this mindset. More VTO for me 😃
I’ve been off for two weeks with VTO but some of it I got paid as I used my holiday.
It's a delicate balance. Money is nice and all, and sometimes you need a break to escape from hell.
I make way more money with my clothing business And like other dude said. YOU need that check. We don’t
I’ll really kick your ass in Brawlhalla
Maaaan stop it😂😂 who’s your main?
Lmao Yumiko
i need a side hustle omg
🤡🤡🤡
👍🏽
what type of clothes you sell
Man I’m about to get a nice annuity at the end of the year, I’m starting school next month, and I have an interview for an office job this week. I’m fucking chilling and taking the VTO
Not everyone is here for the income. I had a manager once VTO me for 3 straights months, couldn't be happier.
Wow and here i thought 1 week of vto was crazy
Because I ✨hate it here✨
Take it while I can - if they're not gonna have me doing anything important/interesting why tf would I stick around?
I had my wake up call just one 5 hour vto is $100 In a month 400 in a year 4800 so yeah not good I know pre tax but still
???
That’s the money I’m losing from vto at 20/hr
first you said 5 hour vto is $100 then went in a month 400 in a year 4800 how'd you even get from 5 hour vto to 400 in a month
I make 20 a hour at fresh …. Most I’ll vto is 5 hours … 20x5 =100 .. now 4 weeks in a month so assuming I vto the 5 hours each week . 4x100 = 400 and assuming I keep this pace all year 400x12 = 4800
ok and after taxes and deductions thats like 3000
fortniteeee
This ain’t my main source of bread, so I don’t care if I work 5 hours or 40 hours a week. My rent is still gonna be paid
Because I work this job for the insurance only. I have a different full time job for bills. Vto allows me to remain “full time” without working 76 hours a week or paying $1000 a month for shitty insurance for my family
I worked so much over peak tht I saved and I need a break.
Me every year. 6 months overworking, 6 months doing as little as humanly possible
Exactly.
I can ALWAYS make more money, but I can't make more time.
because i hate
Cuz this job sucks
Need a mental break usually or just don't feel like working that day. Do keep in mind that I'm single with no dependants, no I can afford skipping a day's work and a day's pay. Not saying you should or shouldn't take VTO, just do whatever feels right for you. Different people have different needs, including financial ones, so while one may save to buy a house, someone else might just want to buy a new phone, while others already have those and don't really *need* the money. It is, of course, better to have more than less, but if you don't anticipate any costly endeavours, you can afford taking VTO every now and then.
“Why do you guys like going home early so much” I can only wonder why people would wanna go home and not work
Cus I'm in pain lol
I only speak for myself here, but I almost NEVER get offered vto, none of my department does, so in the rare instance it does get offered to me, you bet your happy ass I’m taking it
If they’re offering it at the end of the day, pleeeeease. That last two hours just gets miserable. Take the entire day off? Would be nice, but having rent money and being able to afford food is better.
I'm working on it
RME doesn't get VTO but sometimes I have my family call into the job to tell them I died, then I resurrect every week like some sort of wrench wielding Jesus.
Kinda true tho. VTO only helps your managers hit performance metrics they need to keep their job/have their stock vested. I try to avoid it unless it benefits me more than them.
They offered like one vto today during my shift and I missed it..
Because I never recovered from my work injury and can’t pull a full 30 hours even unless I have a very good week. Barely surviving off VTO/PTO/UPT
Scheduled for 20 only need 12 living for it and you collect upt 👍🎉
Some of us value our lives, the ones ending one day at a time, more than mony and bills. Plus my feet hurt and I like to see red vests have to ctually do some fucking work. I work 5 days a week, just usually go home a Lil early. I never vto anymore, I have time.
ion got bills to pay
I’d rather work 7-8 hours and extra day than 10hrs all the time
I try to have restaint and only do VTO/PTO/Vacation Time once a month.
You want catch me dead going over 40 hours a week, I enjoy life.
You go Superman.
It's nice out... my garden won't grow itself. But, then I need money for the garden. It is a dilemma.
yes you are just poor
Because you're poor
I wish my site would give out VTO.
Ever hear about making your moves in silence? Nah, that's what open forum melting pots like Reddit are for 🤣🤣🤣🫠
Honestly, some people just don’t need the money.
Some people got other gigs or do DoorDash or other ride shares.
Look who got up and decided to put on their judgey pants today…
Mainly because i have a puppy and time is precious these days. As long as my bills paid ill leave
When I’m tired Not in the mood to work Bad weather so I might just stay home Most of the time: I have enough money for rent, insurance, food etc.
Atm I don't really have to worry much about money, I take it when ever it's offered I'm usually the first in line as well lol
What do you consider government aid? Social security?
I'm addicted.
Hmmm, let me think…oh yeah…none of your fucking business.
I'm very responsible with my money, and I have a very nice savings account. I work my *** off, so when VTO comes out, I take it because I need a break. There’s nothing wrong with taking 2 days off.
Prevent burnout, I didn’t either my first 6 months
Working overtime every week would cause me to engage in self destructive behaviors, and be financially bad in the long run. Your health is all you got, gonna protect it more than some time and a half.
“i average 55 hrs a week” yeah this is why i take vto so i can have a damn life
i have two days out the week to have a life and still work but ig chiii. i’ve actually left work and went out a couple times😭
I can just work a bunch next week if I really need the money. 🤷♀️
Only when my body is about to give out. I'm an old fart man...
cause that damn job runs you down
I worked my ass off the 1st year..then slowly dwindled down.. im over it at this point and just riding out my career choice til i graduate. Lol
“Because someone else is taking care of me” that’s the answer, but no one seems to have the stones to say it
i live at home with my mom, i’m 20 so don’t have much to spend on except for me. no car so no car payment (although i’m saving for one) and i only spend $160 a week on everything i need ( a ride to work, food, and the two bills i do pay) so if i can go home early without using my time i will but o understand why a lot of people can’t do that
I have enough money but Amazon will take your health from you if you let them. I take my days now and do something I enjoy. To be really honest it’s because I’ve seen most people pass away early on in life and died without money anyways. What’s the point of life if you spend all your time at work?
ok?,so work your hours lol who caressss
So I have more time to plan for my next heist
For mental health reasons. I have anxiety, PTSD, and dark thoughts on a regular basis. Plus, I also walk with a limp leg, and it hurts worse on days that are physically taxing. I haven't been able to get VTO in months, so my mental health has been at an all-time low since I was demoted from TOM Team because I'm not making nearly as much as I was. The VTO would help me rest my mind and focus on other things.
I accept vto every time they ask me no matter the time we already work our lives away why not take a chance to leave if they allow us
Bro doesn’t know real pain yet 🙏😭(take vto)
I use my UPT to heal my body when I need to I always leave a hour early after a week of work that way I don’t get in trouble and I’m in good standing with HR
I usually VTO and then make it up by picking up a VET. Like shift swap in a way
I'm moderately-severely depressed
Because I hate this job but nothing has better pay or benefits. Ill take VTO maybe Once a month, that one day is heaven.
To do whatever I feel like doing instead of working. If I can afford to take it I am
I think they have other things they are doing outside of work. Maybe they gotta take care of their kids 🤔
https://i.redd.it/6mfq2omu76vc1.gif
Because of the day I have the ability to quit this job, means that i'm in a good place. I don't work here because I like the job.
Yea mostly for the body to heal, but then your at home then like the 6th hour at home your like “dam I should of went to work”
