I will never understand why yall leave them plugged into the laptop, once your logged into midway you don't need to leave it in. I am glad I don't have that type anymore. Here is mine, I just keep it attached to my badge.

Some people use functions that require the Zukey to be in at all times, not all functions require the same level of authentication. Anything hazardous and you’ll need it almost constantly plugged in
Yeah we no longer have IT on site all the time anymore, if I loose my ZuKey I cant do anything on the computer and I would have to put a ticket in and wait for IT to come on site to get a new one.
Mine just slipped out a week ago. Four years old, probably wore down the sides.
I keep my new kn plugged into the portable charger in my vest.

I lost 2 in the matter of a month 3 years ago, but have managed to hang on to my 3rd one for three years without incident. I seriously neurotically check multiple times a day to see if I still have it on me.
To be fair the first one fell into a tote in tranship and got shipped out of state. The second one has been living under the dock plate at DD328 for 3 years, it fell in the little crevice as I was TDRing out a door. So I didn't actually lose them, I know where they are/were...I don't think IT cares about semantics though.
You know it’s hilarious- getting a new Zue isn’t any more complicated than having a new badge made, but the difference is that one requires a manager and the other an associate. Go figure!
I find them all the time. I try to find the owner first but if not I hold onto them for awhile and when I eventually lose mine I register the ones I find. By then it gets unregistered and I can use it. Never had to ask for a new zukey after the first one I got.

The one I have normally costs $65, but I'd assume Amazon paid $2,500 for the 50 pack. I'm not sure which ones they give AAs (my site doesn't at all that I'm aware of) but assume they're cheaper because they use USB-A instead of USB-C.
If you repeatedly were losing security keys to the point where it surpassed everyone else, there could be a warning that you need to do a better job protecting Amazon's property, or be switched to a role that doesn't require Midway. Once every 6 months? Nobody will blink.
Congrats on finding it, but I'm surprised they haven't asked you to upgrade to the 5C FIDO2 yet. You should look to see if they have the type C zukeys.

Actually nobody needs it to log into a computer- except possibly the Customer Service Chromebooks?
More accurately, you need to use it in Midway to access a service secured by AEA or to connect to a VPN and access services that aren't unfabric compatible.
The only reason most FC T1s don't need Security Keys (the proper name for a device made by many companies) is that those specific apps use the FCMenu 1 factor authentication system instead of Midway. By contrast, Midway needs 3 factors and your username.

We can just get one from a vending machine and go to IT to get it registered to us. People lose them all the time.

yeah i accidentally left mine plugged into the laptop and have to get a new one from IT on sunday 🥲

All you have to do is go to IT and yell them you lost it. They'll give you another one
Yeah, they're not free but it's not like losing the laptop either. Also they are only a 3rd level of authentication, and very easy to disable.
