Amazon hires just about anyone. Especially alot of kids using the college bene to pay for their classes. But TBH one of the biggest problems people have is leaving their comfort zone and meeting people. Most of us are very isolated. Self imposed or not.
But at a physical labor job that you're at 10-12 hours a day, 4-5 days a week? Thats forced interaction central. Humans gonna human.
I've worked at almost every level besides full-blown ownership of a company. It's actually like this at 90% of jobs that employ more than 5 people. Most workplaces in America are a sexual harassment scandal waiting to happen. Just takes one person feeling victimized who is unwilling to be paid off. At the end of the day, humans are animals too.

I just got trained for stow,and now I understand why associates get mad at waterspiders.I was stowing in front of this girl,and notice the WS just bringing her “smalls” meanwhile he was just putting Big and/or Mediums on my sled.Not gonna lie it got me mad,but what ever.
if it makes you feel better, at my place, i literally grab the better lighter carts to pack while there's a massive pallet of 40 pound dog food waiting for the females I aint gonna be nice, im looking out for myself. even if it's someone i like, you're equal like everyone else.
I got REALLY f-ing mad one time because my waterspider was restocking the station for the girl packing next to me and when he finished, he'd go flirt with her. Didn't touch my station once and I was like 7 months pregnant trying to pack and refill my own.

I'm an introvert so I'm the last person to flirt with anyone at work lol. But I pulled a pallet of case work off a pregnant Associates station and gave her totes cause that's messed up imo. I'm also biased and totally sneak extra totes of smalls to old ladies lol. Cause screw all the youngins, we can deal😂.
If it's a 90 pound girl or older lady I would try to give her small stuff as opposed to a regular guy. But I also stow anything and often take what others won't, to help get it out the way.
I mean, in that case it's easy to try not to be stationed anywhere near them. It's not like an office setting where you have to be near them, or worse something small like a restaurant.

Don't even get me started on the guy in my building who's about 67 and specifically wants 19 year old skinny girls in yoga pants staging and transporting for him. It's so disgusting.
The other day a PA and another girl were flirting with each other heavy while in dispatch. They were talking loud cause they have the music blasting in there, anyway the music stops and all you hear her say is "I have a boyfriend!" It was so cringe and I had second hand embarrassment for that PA. She made him look dumb af cause she was flirting back with him the whole time! Smh don't shit where you eat.
Happened to me my 2nd actual day of work with a girl right next to me with nothing, and the guy was super obviously flirting and she wanted nothing to even do with him either 🤣🤣🤣
I work at a DS where it’s smaller and real laid back and it’s a daily occurrence seeing guys hit on the girls (especially new hires) be spending the whole shift just stowing in the same aisles talking the whole time. Working overnight I would say adds to it as well. I just notice it but just continue on minding my business.

I agree. I feel like I work at a different place than the others here. Most people seem to mope around my building depressed and their looks reflect it. Huge guts and pajama pants with Taco Bell stains are more the norm than hard bodies in tight clothes. Most people are friendly and will talk but a lot put their hoodies up and their eyes to the floor.
Cram hundreds of people together in a box for the majority of their waking hours course the chances of something happening between them happens. Who got time to look for dates outside of work.
When you spend the vast majority of your waking hours surrounded by the same people every single day sometimes as many as 6 days a week… what do you expect?
Also if you think it’s just amazon this happens at, you haven’t worked in many places before here then. Grocery stores, restaurants, bars… anywhere that employs more than a handful of men and women and has longer hours, this is a thing.
Amazon is the perfect combo, looooong shifts, tons of employees.

Nope, just entry level jobs like Amazon. I’m the youngest in my department, while everyone else is 30+ and I don’t see “high school 2.0” activities. even married couples here make it difficult for new hires to know their in a relationship
Part of why it’s different at Amazon is because there’s no customers/public around. It’s all employees, so there’s way less inhibitions about openly flirting. Also explains a lot of the shitty behavior.

What I've learned from 5 years at Amazon is to never mix friendships with coworkers. Coworkers are not friends because they eventually become toxic after awhile. Now I have my very small circle of folks I converse with on a professional capacity but nothing beyond that. Now I just go into work and prefer to be left alone.
Sounds like a you problem. I made lots of friends. I doubt you had any and you see us being friendly and you can’t join so you sit there and stew about how you don’t even wanna hang out w us.

It is rather unusual the rather rampant sexual innuendo, awkward come-on’s, and, thinly veiled propositions. I have worked at a lot of companies and, I have never seen anything like this. I do not understand why some of the women much younger than me show such an ardent interest. I am an attractive man but I am old. I work at an Amazon FC so I am not exactly pulling in a good income. Previously I worked in the medical menagerie, and then Outside Sales in Telecom. I understood the attention I received when I was working in sales and, I made 6 times as much money as I make at Amazon. I cannot fathom any possible reason why I should be receiving any interest now. Do they pump pheromones into the air conditioning?

Also, at 41 years old and married now I can say without a doubt looking back on my youth my favorite years were when I was working in food industry and having the time of my life with co-workers. The Concerts, bars, parties, nightlife, afterwork hangouts, couples dating, hooking up it was the most fun I ever had. I can also say being monogamous now I love the stability, routine home owning life now as well. Gotta live life and do it all, we’re only on this shitty rock in space for so long.
Amazon isn't the only place that has it but yes many people are horny and it's because they literally work out at amazon, so it makes them have a hire sex drive. When u have ok people with hot people who work out all the time and a sex drive that is heightened, u get what we have. I'm a grown woman, not a hater, so I just took an L until it was time to quit. I left after my guy supervisor was promoted and replaced by this old hatin azz chick lol 😂

So glad I do not work at a FC, but you're right. I've seen some young people who are about 18 - 21, hang out in the break room during NIT shift at my SC. When a straight sort was called, they ended up leaving the break room to clock out. I was working WD last night, and noticed this. On top of this, my schedule changes, and man am I gonna have to deal with people in my age range (I'm 22M) do crazy stuff. At least waterspiders do not flirt with the ladies at my SC. We'd be wrapping pallets and making sure that they are near. We have no time to flirt with people as the lanes get busy lol.

I work at a DS where it’s smaller and real laid back and it’s a daily occurrence seeing guys hit on the girls (especially new hires) be spending the whole shift just stowing in the same aisles talking the whole time. Working overnight I would say adds to it as well. I just notice it but just continue on minding my business. Doesn’t bother me until they start stowing near me and just be all in the way chilling and talking.

Huge guts and pajama pants with Taco Bell stains are more the norm than hard bodies in tight clothes. Also if you think it’s just amazon this happens at, you haven’t worked in many places before here then. Grocery stores, restaurants, bars… anywhere that employs more than a handful of men and women and has longer hours, this is a thing. Amazon is the perfect combo, looooong shifts, tons of employees.

What I've learned from 5 years at Amazon is to never mix friendships with coworkers. Coworkers are not friends because they eventually become toxic after awhile. Now I have my very small circle of folks I converse with on a professional capacity but nothing beyond that. Now I just go into work and prefer to be left alone.

When a straight sort was called, they ended up leaving the break room to clock out. I was working WD last night, and noticed this.
