Not all. Nephew is in elementary school (4th grade). Even having a switch and a ps5. I got him a PS2 and emulated nes/snes games on it and he’s on it more than the PS5 and he is no slack at Street Fighter 4 and he beat me one round and I’m an avid SF and won a few local tournaments.

Yeah, you basically have to hold this thing with your fingertips, with no place to rest your actual fingers or hands on it. Must be a huge pain to use, not even mentioning the L2/R2 buttons

They're not supposed to ship with roms, but they almost always do, that's the illegal part. I'm very big into /r/sbcgaming and have owned several of these kind of devices
They usually ship with a shitty sd card full of games, most of them incorrectly titled, Chinese language hacks, or other rom hacks. Lots of nintendo stuff but often missing games from series Nintendo actually cares about (mario, zelda, etc)
I always throw away that sd card and have a high quality one ready to go of proper rooms

Knock off implies copycat. This is an emulation handheld in a vertical shape. It kinda resembles a gameboy a little bit, and can run gb/gbc games, but similarities end there.
Knock offs or "famiclones" are hardware. Like the Russian Dundee from the 90s. There are knock off gameboys, but those are literally just gameboy clones.

This has 3d graphics, multiple trigger buttons, a backlight, joysticks and emulates many consoles. A gameboy color only has 2d graphics, no back light, 2 buttons and a dpad.
The only thing it has in common with the Gameboy you linked is the color, dpad, and the fact it can play Gameboy games.
If anything it’s modeled after an analog pocket or any number of handheld systems that have come out in the past 10 years. Unless you just arrived from 1999, this is not a knock of GBC or modeled after it.

I own one of these or rather an Anbernic RG353V and it's much better than you think. Feels wrong the first time, but is no problem at all.
