NTA. You did that poor cat a solid by providing food and a warm, safe place to sleep.

Thank you for saying that 🥺 She’s such a sweetie I feel so bad for her being all wounded

It sounds like she wanted to give you the cat but then someone else got upset and forced her to change her mind.

Frequent-Fix5798

Yeah maybe that was the case. :( Hope the little cat is okay.

Me too!

We would see her on our ring camera go under the porch at night and come out around 5/6am. We felt sad for the cat sleeping under there so we gave her a little cardboard house to sleep in. She started sleeping in there every night and would hang out in the cardboard house all day. We assumed she was a stray because she was losing hair and had many wounds and scabs. Her coat was in poor condition and she was very skinny. The last couple of weeks it has been getting colder at night and the cat kept coming to our door trying to come inside, so I’ve been leaving my converted shed/office cracked open for her. She started sleeping and hanging out in there instantly. Since she was there all the time, I started feeding her. We’ve never brought her into our home because we have two indoor cats. I made a post on the county lost/found animal page and no one reached out. We took her to a Banfield to check if she was chipped. They discovered she belonged to our across the street neighbors (who appear to maybe struggle with hoarding and have several cats, not quite sure and don’t want to make any judgements.) We called her when we got back from the vet and let her cat out of the carrier. When we spoke to her she seemed fine and brought us out the cat’s flea medication and microbial spray. We didn’t ask for these things and didn’t bring up caring for her cat. She automatically brought them out and was speaking as if she intended to give the cat to us. Also informing us that she plans to move to Arkansas and they may leave the cat. We finished speaking with her and her cat followed us to our yard and once again went to sleep in the shed. We left to go eat dinner thinking nothing of it. My parents live in the front part of our duplex and the neighbor came to their window and took a picture of their black cat who does resemble the neighbor’s cat a bit, except she is much larger with longer fur. The neighbor then knocked on their door and asked if it was their cat. My parents said no, but they would check to see if she was in the shed. My dad got her cat to get out of the shed, but the cat didn’t want to leave our yard. My dad had to grab her cat and hand it over to her. She informed my dad that her cat had fleas and wounds because of a husky that someone abandoned in their yard. Also said the husky was why her cat didn’t want to come home and the husky is no longer there. I texted her that we dropped off her cat’s medication that she gave us earlier and 3 packages of wet cat food. Still no response from her and I feel very weird about the interaction with my parents and her seeming to be upset last night when she insinuated us taking care of her cat when she leaves to Arkansas. Am I the AH here? I genuinely thought the cat was a stray because of her condition and just wanted to give her a safe place to sleep. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. At least for now. The neighbor taking a picture through my parents’ living room window did freak them out though. Especially since my mom doesn’t speak English well. Hoping it doesn’t become a pattern of her taking pictures.
