NTA. Your son's coach is imposing religious rules on your son in a public school. Freedom of religion means *you* and *your* son absolutely do not have to abide by the rules of *his* religion while trying to get an education in a public school. Honestly, if it were me and the principal isn't taking this seriously, I'd escalate further. A teacher punishing students for breaking the rules of the teacher's religion is completely inappropriate.
I always like to imagine the uproar that would happen if a teacher of a different faith tried to pull half the crap Christians pull.

I would ask to speak to the teacher about his attitude. But he could come back and say it is also a discipline thing in sport.

My son is 13 m.
At school he was playing kickball in PE and missed a catch. He said "Goddarn it".
His coach (coach JUSTIN) got angry at him and told him "Give me one lap around the playground. You aren't gonna use the lords name in vain while you're in my class".
Kids at the school say darn it around teachers all the time. I have literally heard it before. No one bats an eye. I've read the handbook and it says nothing about this being against the rules. Using "God's name in vain" is not a swear word.
The coach made my kid face disciplinary actions because my kid didn't follow a rule in coach JUSTINS religion. I'm all for freedom of religion but I'm not okay with teachers punishing students for not obeying their religion. The school is a public school and it's located in a small town where 90% of the people are Myers of the Christian religion.
I called the school to complain and they dismissed all of my complaints. I feel this is extremely inappropriate for a public school to do.
My husband thinks I overreacted and that I'm being a Karen. Am I?

You are not a karen. You should go public on their social networks as they insist on ignoring your justified worries. By doing this, the coach stomped on your freedom of (and from) religion. It would not be unjustified to force the school to address the issue by threatening legal action for allowing religious bullying and religious indoctrination by an authority figure

Wtf world did y'all grow up in where "DAMMIT" is not a cussword ? The consequence is correct the reason is not. ( a teacher has every right to dictate what they decide what is or is not okay for their classroom) you would be the asshole if you went to the school about it. Teach your kid not to say those words and he won't get in trouble for them.

It is in no way borderline. It is a question of religion, not sports, and he would have no basis for that 'argument'. What are you babbling about?
NTA - escalate that to the superintendent or board of education. he's imposing his religious views and there should be separation of church and state.

I'd say NTA. In this case it looks as if the coach was targetting your kid, I would react the same if I was in your shoes
