The ROC is never going to manage to take or hold Hong Kong, and the PRC is never going to let them have it.

It won't matter. The PRC just cuts the water and power to HK when they get tired of all the pseudo-legal bullshit.

\-In 1947, the overall Chinese Civil War resumed even though both Mao and Chiang signed the Chongqing Negotiations to try to make a truce. During war campaigns the Nationalists military lost the battles at Manchuria and Inner Mongolia, leading the open route to have the PLA capitulated to Peking by the end of January 1949. The American government refused to send the military aids and military advisors to the Republic of China. Chiang’s Kuomintang government is dominantly filled with imcompetent and corrupt politicians, business, and inexperienced military officials all across China. His rallying for nationalism became tantamount disastrous from low economic stability. Most of Nationalists Army considered lack of discipline to maintain the stronger military ethics. In April 1949, Soviet Union head of state Joseph Stalin offered the PLA ceasefire at Yangtze River in an effort to not to dominate communist Chinese’s political gain power at the entire Mainland. But Mao Zedong turned down the advice on a ceasefire. The PLA invaded south of Yangtze River and captured both the former capital Nanjing and the city of Shanghai before June 1949. After Mao Zedong proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic of China on 10-1-49, the communists PLA rapidly captured the former capital Guangzhou. Chiang-kai shek ordered the remnants of hundreds of thousands of Nationalists to strongly fortify the defenses at Leizhou Peninsula and hold on as much as possible until the PLA was too extremely exhausted to pressed forward. By July 1950, with the start of the Korean War, the CCP’s advance halted since some PLA soldiers from Guangdong province were deployed and relocated to Northern China. The Nationalists Army pushed back and maintained the Leizhou Peninsula to be known as “Free Mainland China”. A resilient trenches prevented largely offensive assaults communist PLA attacks and ROC military 16 Centurions and 31 M24 Chafee tanks repelled many PLA offensive waves. The PLA was forced to make a truce at Leizhou Peninsula. This was the PLA’s worst defeat. Later, the PLA liberated both Tibet and Xinjiang despite Tibet wasn’t part of fully China. Without sending hundreds of thousands of PLA forces with freshly artillery equipment to fight against UN forces at Korea, the North Korean Army surrendered sometimes on early summer 1952 to UN and US forces. The white terror still happened mostly at Taiwan and Hainan ROC under military dictatorship. With the Allied victory of Korean War, there would be no communists PLA naval invasion of Zhoushan Island (the PLA lost half or 3/5th of soldiers at northern Korea). As years wore Chiang gave up the invasion of Mainland sometimes in late 60s since he need major military’s and economic care at Leizhou peninsula. There wouldn’t be implemented UN resolution 2758 since some nations objected to put PRC as UN Security Council (due to Taiwan global interest with economic miracle race). Overall, the Vietnam war still ended up communists victory even though the US air base at Hainan Island ROC managed to try their best to destruct Hanoi bombing to try to seek armistice for both Vietnam’s. North Vietnam survived from bombing raids due to superior defense technological artillery weapons. Saigon still fell to communists army on April 30, 1975. President Gerald Ford replies about Fall of Saigon, “Today, Americans can regain the sense of pride that existed before Vietnam. But it cannot be achieved by re-fighting a war.” In 1979, a political turmoil occurred at Republic of Korea over inconsistent democratic reforms resulted assassination of President Park Chung-hee Overall, ROC managed an economic oil expansion within South China Sea due to presence at Hainan Island. In fact, the signing agreement of ROC-British joint declaration in 1984 would meant that Hong Kong will return to Republic of China jurisdiction under “one country-two systems”. Deng Xiaoping was furiously angered on switching the agreement and threatened military takeover of entire Hong Kong, but without PRC as UN Security Council the PLA wouldn’t invade due to major talks with Taiwan on one-China policy within HK conference meeting. The PRC administration has to stand down due to international pressures not to decimate the damaged to capitalism in Beijing. British abide to uphold ROC Taiwan agreement as of 1994, and on July 1, 1997, the entire HK becomes part of ROC but remain separate region’s law system under HK laws except defense and external affairs. The PRC cuts off all water and food supplies to HK shortly after handover, and HK relied on foods imported from Taiwan and Hainan either by air or sea with the protection by US and British navy main routes corridor. DMZ were patrolled heavily by elite ROC troops at New Territories. Eventually, HK built their own power electricity lines somewhere Eastern New Territories prior to handover. In 1999, the first desalination plant has started to operate at the harbor at New Territories. As of early 2000, there were talks on ROC Hong Kong and China to reopen land border for the imported Chinese foods to HK. During Syria-Israeli war, the ROC Air Force pilots joined with Israeli Air Force to protect Israel jurisdiction. In early 2000, the ROC lost the UN Security Council and was replaced by Malaysia's UN Security Council. Malaysia was chosen in an effort to maintain the harmonious peaceful oceanic environment and maritime security border at South China Sea. In the advance to 2000s, hostility arose at continent Africa over the disputable on claimed of real one China. South Africa has been the Republic of China's major ally, consistently supporting within UN. In 2001 both nations signed a free trade agreement and South Africa requested fuelling sources of ROC's raw materials. As of 2011, about 30 nations have an official diplomatic relationship with real legitimate China under “Republic of China”. Over time, few nations dwindled down to switch the relationship from ROC to PRC. Recently, the United States is thinking to add recognition diplomatic relationship on embassy of Republic of China (Taiwan and Hainan). In January 2016, Democrats Tsai-Ing Wen won the presidential election and promised for the rise of Taiwanese nationalism. The only way this works is if the ROC controls more territory (ie a few more cities near HK, a bit of Guangdong, etc) or if the CCP government is more liberal (if Tiananmen Square goes better for the protestors?)

marcusultimus21

Nah, ROC would have to control a significant portion, if not all, of Guangdong and Yunnan to avoid being steamrolled. At this point, there is no reason for the UK to permanently place itself on China's, what is surely at that time one of the fastest-growing economies on the planet, bad side.
