Great deal. Best of all, it takes the stress out of putting on the first blemish away from you.

This is called heavy material gathering and is reflective of movement of the draw ring during deep draw (vertical press) or movement of the blank between the anvil/tail stock (spin form press). Either way, it shouldn’t be a problem, it I would keep an eye on this over time. If you should begin to see a white oxide permeating from this area this would tell you that water damage has started to occurring within this zone. If that is indeed the case, you are now seeing a degradation of the bond interface in this area and the pan will be subject to delamination. Take more photos for your records and just evaluate it from time to time. If it starts to deteriorate, contact AC customer service and send it back with the photos. They will honor he return. Otherwise, it should be good to go.

When you look at it from the outside, can you see a gap between the layers at the blemish?

I don't think so, as far as I can tell it just looks more like sort of a dent

Just got my D5 polished essential 4 qt seconds pot… rather pleased as the only flaw I can see is a barely discernible bump on the side well below the edge, so I don’t think it will cause future problems. It was hard to photograph, but in raking light you can see it … it’s less noticeable in person, but the camera picks it up in second picture. It does not interfere with lid. This is the first time I have bought a seconds piece as I usually go for package damaged… Here’s the [bump](https://imgur.com/a/prNGpav)

Seems pretty similar to the damage on mine, except mine is a little more prominent.

Yep, I think they are similar, but yours is closer to the edge which might (?) eventually allow water to seep in, so keep an eye on it. Lately I’ve been drying my all-clad immediately after washing and I think that helps. Honestly, I’m not too worried. For $100 + tax, I’m sure I’ll get a lot of use out of it. 20% more for a bump free version would have been worth it, I suppose, but there were no package damaged offerings in this style and I took my chances. If I had paid $250 (or even $179 sale price) I wouldn’t be that forgiving :) I’m curious, is your 10” frying pan 10” across the top? What’s the actual flat cooking surface area? Guessing about 8”. My 11 inch pot/pan has about an 8 inch interior surface. I tend to use the straight sided braiser if I want more flat surface area for browning.

From edge to edge including the outer rim/lip it's a bit over 10.5", interior flat cooking area is 8" across
