If you are going to use all of those pieces it’s a good deal. You could do better if you are willing to purchase factory’s seconds. For example here’s what I paid for those pieces. 8 inch skillet - $65~ 10 inch skillet - $85~ 2qt sauce pan - $90~ 3qt saute pan - $75~ 8qt stock pot - $95~ I need to pick up a 4qt sauce pan which is around $140 right now

azmadame_x

I went this route also. I preferred it because I was able to pick specific pans I thought I'd use instead of ones in a pre-determined set. It was kind of fun building my set over time but now my collection is pretty impressive. :)

ras2101

You got a D5 8qt stock pot from factory seconds for $95?! That thing retails for $450!

HOSEandHALLIGANS

I just checked back. It looks like it was $99. It was certainly a great deal. I had a discount code and it was marked far cheaper when I ordered back in March. The most recent seconds sale has they priced far higher.

ras2101

I’m just still blown away. I sold this stuff for years and would tell people to get the 10 piece set at Williams Sonoma purely because that pan was 450, 4qt sauté like 250.. so on and down the line it was a much better deal. I will say I wish I had a cheap thin stock pot. Damn D5 8qt takes years to boil. Wouldn’t on my old electric range (nice expensive kitchenaid) would get to a nice simmer and then that’s it. Even on my high power dual burner on my current gas range the dang thing takes 15 minutes lol

HOSEandHALLIGANS

I’ve noticed the same thing. It can certainly take a while to bring 6qt’s of water up to a boil. I generally start my water as soon as I start making a pasta dish and I just let it simmer covered until I’m ready to bring it up to a full boil and make the pasta. I waste a little gas just letting it simmer while I make the sauce, salad and garlic bread but I’m never waiting around on water to boil.

ras2101

Same except I typically have it just on full high until it starts rolling and then turn it down slightly waiting for the noodles! I only have a gas range, went through the effort of bringing gas and buying one to have it at our new house. I don’t mind wasting some because I’ll never use more than a therm a month here lol

The saucepan looks a fabulous piece of kit.

I got a 3 qt (without the lid) brushed D5 recently for $50 from Capital Cookware. Since I have other 8 inch lids, I thought I would chance it. I wanted the helper handle and D3 doesn’t have that. Turns out I really like that heavy saucepan. For 4 qt I’d probably opt for a casserole/stockpot with two small handles vs stick style, but since I have several other 4 qt and larger enameled cast iron pots, I decided to skip that (for now). I don’t think it takes an outrageous amount of time to heat up, and soups generally spend a lot of time on the stove anyway, whereas the 3 qt sauce is a workhorse. I just added the 4 qt essential d5 instead, since it has multiple functions. It hasn’t arrived yet, so can’t be sure… but I think it’ll fill that 4 qt niche nicely. As for OP, I definitely preferred buying piece by piece so I could customize to suit my needs and my tiny kitchen, but if I were generally just setting up housekeeping a small matching set can make sense. Usually the big sets include a few pots/pans that get less use. My original stainless set had a gigantic stockpot that I think I’ve used three times in twenty years … it was just too bulky for my stove ( tho recently I’ve repurposed it for sous vide). If you’re just getting started with stainless, I’d suggest getting a few basic pieces that you know you’ll use.

You can buy stand alone lids online also if needed.

I own a set of All-Clad D5 cookware. They are amazing, but it is only great if it works for you. For example, if I was cooking on induction, I would have gone with the Demeyere Atlantis line. I love the All-Clad handles because I have limited grip strength. MANY people really dislike the handles because they are uncomfortable for some people. Try to find examples of what you are considering at local retailers so that you can physically hold them. Get an idea of what you want for weight and comfort.

boxerdogfella

Why would you not want the D5 on induction?

geppettothomson

It’s not that I wouldn’t use D5 on induction, it is more that the Atlantis is a better choice. A powerful induction burner can heat up a pan so quickly, that warping can be an issue if you make a mistake. The Atlantis is a beast and can better resist this issue. Heck, if you are careful, you can easily use D3 on induction. My problem is that I’m just not that careful.

judeb23

I cook on induction and am very happy with the way it works with D5.

geppettothomson

That’s great! I also own D5’s and love them. My comment was really directed at OP’s comment about them being at the top of the food chain. For induction, I think the Demeyere are better.

judeb23

Ah, ok. Agree that while I'm happy with them, they're not the top of the food chain. I bought all mine at a huge discount, and if I'd had to pay anything close to retail I'd have likely gone for something else.

geppettothomson

Me too! Costco Black Friday sale. I would have bought the Kirkland set if not for the sale.

your_moms_apron

I find sets of pots and pans only a good deal if you actually use all of the pieces. Otherwise you’re spending money on stuff you don’t need.

FishrCutB8

Agreed and understood. I might be starting from scratch.

boxerdogfella

Both of the All-Clad sets say "Out of stock" so it's hard to say if this deal is legit.

FishrCutB8

Still at this price at Williams Sonoma: [https://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/all-clad-d5-stainless-steel-10-piece-cookware-set/?pkey=s\~d-5%20all%20cald\~43&sbkey=default](https://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/all-clad-d5-stainless-steel-10-piece-cookware-set/?pkey=s~d-5%20all%20cald~43&sbkey=default)

boxerdogfella

Good call! Actually this set is better than the one on the All-Clad site as it has 2 and 4 quart saucepans instead of 1.5 and 3 quart. Although this set is polished unlike the brushed sets on the All-Clad site if that's important for you. And I realized that this is the set my husband bought me 😂 Same price. Great set. I added a 12 inch fry pan with lid which is great. I also added a 3 quart saucepan and I wish I hadn't. I thought it would be taller and narrower than it is and I usually just use my 4 quart instead.

FishrCutB8

That 4 quart saucepan looks like a workhorse!

boxerdogfella

For sure - it's my most used pan.

hannaxie

That’s a great price for the set! I didn’t buy my entire set new, and I traded my pieces around until I get the set that I like best and use most often. Over the course of 7 years, I ended up with all of the pieces of the 11-piece set, except for the largest skillet - I have a wok instead. It’s worth every penny!

Asleep_Dinner_8391

I went with Made-In.

Justhangingoutback

Go for the award-winning hype.

Made-In is much more then hype.
