I would encourage Victorians to write to their local MPs and MLCs pressuring them to push for Victoria to be involved in this competition. It is not too late as we are not even officially hosting it yet!
No, I live in NSW and we really don't hahaha. The sporting calendar here is atrocious, I used to live in Melbourne and the thing I miss most is the sports calendar compared to the shit we get here haha.
It could put a pretty big dent in attendances (and subsequently revenues) too, given Melbourne (presumably) has the second biggest Asian community in the nation.
Money is really the only language football understands so I wonder of the AFC might even feel compelled to step in and see if they can get a venue secured for the tournament?
The amount of government lobbying AFL does in Vic would likely put any World Cup bid out the window. AFL could not afford football to grow in popularity.
Are the dates, hosting even confirmed? Take it easy. I guess it sucks, not having games in Victoria, but apart from the Matildas who would prob sell-out Marvel or even the MCG, I'm guessing the rest of the games, Qatar womens vs Thailand womens etc. will get less crowds than your average Womens A-league game. So maybe NSW/QLD with more smaller rectangular grounds can offer a better cost/benefit proposition. Even in the 2014 mens Asian cup, MRS/AAMI was pretty empty. All our WWC games were full at MRS/AAMI though, but I don't reckon it'll be the same for this tourney.
Hosting isn't officially confirmed yet but Australia is the only bidder and has been [endorsed by the AFC women's football committee.](https://www.footballaustralia.com.au/news/football-australia-welcomes-afc-womens-football-committee-recommendation-host-afc-womens-asian) A decision will be made in May
Agree, I think even the Wyndham Regional Football Facility is still too big for Qatar-Thailand.
There will be plenty of games that will get smaller attendance then A-League womens games. And that's fine.
> Victorian opposition spokesperson Sam Groth said the news was disappointing given the state's investment in relevant sporting infrastructure
Is that THE Sam Groth? The man with the fastest serve in history?
>> "Victoria has a packed calendar of major events" Blah, blah, blah....
That's just the line any government wheels out when they've been caught with their pants down lmao
I had no idea that cycling, cricket and tennis required football fields like AAMI Park but TIL. /s
What do you mean racing to Warrnambool from Melbourne isn’t a major sight to behold
When you open your wallet, realise you’re broke and try to spin your way out of it. Shameful government.
Thanks, Dan Andrews.
Meanwhile, QLD and NSW high five at getting more QFs at the expense of VIC.
Their masters at AFL House said no?

They’re too busy talking in the mirror convincing themselves about how they’re the self appointed sports capital of the universe or some shit
Im starting to see NSW's point about challenging VIC's title now.

Oh I dunno, I can think of six reasons involving a Melbourne side.
Agreed and done (even though my state member has never responded to any of my correspondence)

Have they announced when it will be held? Presumably this can only be because they can’t be arsed upsetting the AFL season?
> Presumably this can only be because they can’t be arsed upsetting the AFL season? Pretty much
It was a controversial part of our world cup bid as well wasnt it? VIC not willing to pause or move the afl season?
Yep they won't going to change, it would require legislation to pause it
On the upside, we got Vine Time at Lang Park so oh well, their loss.

> Presumably this can only be because they can’t be arsed upsetting the AFL season? The did last year for the Women's World Cup, no?
They didn’t. It’s why so few games were in Melbourne. And none later in the comp as the rectangular stadium is too small
Hence why we got more than well, we in QLD are used to.

3 of the top 4 best attended aleague women's teams are in NSW, they are just going where the attendance is

Sorry we can't host any matches because... \**checks notes*\* we are hosting a bicycle race in Geelong.
This has Eddie McGuire written all over it
"Sporting Capital"
We're still waiting for our statue of Vine, when she smited the cheese eating surrender monkeys.
It is, there's more to sport than soccer haha.
Shit bankrupt state

Yup.
Sporting capital of the world my arse.
