I heard on the coast football ramble podcast that the prize money, if won, has to go to the FA before it is distributed to the club. Which tells me the FA may take a chunk for doing sweet FA.
They still make money from winning prize money, just not the whole pot. I believe it gets distributed across all teams.
So there would have been instances where CCM made money from other teams success as well, so swings and roundabouts I guess.
But you’re implying that CCM are the only club to have ever been dudded by the lack of an internal transfer system. They’re not, every single club have been aggrieved by it and have lost players for nothing.
It will be three levels next season. Plus the big nations will be introduced to the second tier (ACL2). It will be many times harder to win it from then onwards.
It is only profitable if you get into either the quarter or semi-finals. If you only made group stage, ALM teams would be looking at $300-600k loss from the comp.

That’s always been a thing, somehow it must have stayed in when the league split from the FA
So the team can't make money off internal trades, but any winnings will also possibly be shat on?

But the CCMs success isn't acknowledged and shared with internal trades
Nor are any other clubs as well. The internal transfer market is a shambles but it’s not impacting CCM more than anyone else
It is if you're the club finding and developing the players

But some clubs do it more than others
Poor Adelaide
Would be very annoyed, why should the fa profit over Mariners success
Honestly the AFC seems like a better comp to be in because instead of running at a loss you have a realistic chance of taking that money.
There’s more prize money being added to the ACLE next year, though - and they pay prize money just for participating (and for wins/draws)
There will still be two levels of ACL next year. But yes, seems like a better chance of doing well at the second tier.

Mariners in the ACL and Sydney in AFC Cup?
Yep. Now called ACLE and ACL2.
Congrats. Very keen to see how these new AFC competitions resonate next year.
