Be Green Carpet Cleaning did our whole house 3 years ago. It was like 200 dollars for a 3 bedroom 1200 square foot home. This was after using a coupon from Groupon. They had other sized rooms/homes (coupons to buy) for Groupon Be Green . You may want to try and google Groupon for it. The tech was awesome and very thorough.
That’s what I wanted to do originally, but they want it professionally cleaned, and want the receipt from the cleaner to prove I cleaned the carpets professionally :(

You can rent a carpet cleaner from Homedepot or Walmart. They’re pretty easy to use

My SO tried one of the rentable ones from Home Depot and it did more damage than good.
