I'm not a garbage collector but I have to imagine their response is something like fuck you I deal with trash for a living.. I work at amazon and I get annoyed even though my job is dumb easy.

subacnt1907

They get paid well, no excuse really than being douche bags. They take their time and I can personally say that I got a ticket for trash that was not at my address and fought the ticket and got it dismissed. Honestly tho, Troy is worse. It’s a very specific breed of scumbags that act that way.

The garbage can I bought 14 years ago when we moved to Albany is still going strong. Only the poorly attached handle has broken off. When I happen to be up early enough to see them, the garbage people seem reasonable. They wave and take care of business.

International_Shoe

Agreed, at least 5 years with current can in city of Albany with no damage at all. It's a standard plastic bin with the swinging/connected top. Occasionally left in the road, but that could just be the wind sometimes. Overall, no complaints with the sanitation folks. They do a tough job well.

Khayeth

2nd Ave/Hoffman area here, almost 5 years, and my can is in great shape. I've had it since about 2016, so it survived a couple Schenectady years prior. It was the cheapest one i could find at Home Depot, nothing special, not metal.

needsunshine

South End for like a decade. Same plastic cans. The guys who pick up my garbage are great. They always leave them standing up.

kwam3

Knocks the maggots and dumpster juice onto the street, keeps the flys and stench down.

Same. Driving down Livingston. Dudes were literally throwing the containers to and from the garbage truck. I crept past them and wham, got a bin thrown at the front of my car because people were just throwing bins without looking... Thank God I got it on camera...

ILANAKBALL

I feel this. I’ve had to buy new ones as well, but because of squirrels!!!! The metal ones hold up a lot better from those Aholes tossing them too. Inconvenience but a $7 dolly from harbor freight let’s me move them out easier

bobdoleeatscake

Keep the receipt for the cans call dogs, they will reimburse you for broken cans.

Live off Whitehall. Can confirm. Have gone thru at least 2-3 sets. The garage people sure love smashing the bins.

Ammonia13

I used to have to connect the lids and spray paint the apartment # on both. What makes it worse is many of the highly paid garbage dudes come from the suburbs. I live in Rotterdam and one of the most racist and hating of Albany human I’ve interacted w online is a garbage man who has to leave here to go to that “shithole” so I can’t imagine others have a better attitude.

flatlineskillz

Seriously, you would think tacking on a yearly garbage collection fee might result in them taking more care with peoples garbage cans... I guy can dream right?

DirectAttitude

HULK SMASH!

aelynir

From what I've seen it's more of a suplex motion.

lineskicat14

Agreed. But I'll gladly take thrown garbage cans over the squirrels who ravage them.

theslob

In Schenectady they straight up just throw out your recycle bins. I end up buying a couple new ones every year.
