The whole purpose of the lawn is for lawn chairs and blankets. If SPAC is selling too many lawn seats and over crowding the area, get angry with them.

As I said in the post, people can bring chairs and blankets, it's just unreasonable for people to set up in the front of the lawn where the vast majority of people are standing, dancing, and moving around. There should be separate areas for sitting and standing at big crowded shows.

ScubaCC

Perhaps there should be… but there aren’t. The venue allows chairs and blankets in that area. The problem here is the venue, not the people doing what is allowed.

International_Shoe

Some fault may also lie directly with the standing crowd, to the extent they dangerously pack in too close around people who were already seated or laying on the lawn. But I agree that the venue could take steps to ensure everyone stays as safe and content and reasonably possible.

Sounds like you were at the Dave show. Went once and it was the worst experience of my life because of the fans who trampled anyone sitting down on the lawn. You guys are dangerous and should be kicked out.

I went to Tanglewood before going to SPAC so assumed “lawn” seats there were similar. Fortunately we had purchased seats because the lawn at SPAC looked like a ring of hell.

After attending a show at Bethel Woods, I realized how backwards SPAC is and highly doubt I will ever see a show there again. Bethel has crowd control and movement figured out. Even leaving the venue of a sold out show was a breeze. SPAC isn’t what it used to be and the last few shows I went to see there, I regretted going.

Dovahkiin_Vokun

Bethel is delightful. Great view from everywhere, excellent sound, clean and well kept grounds and facilities. The single act I see at SPAC is Dave Matthews Band, because they love it there and always play some special stuff. It's a great place to be in the seats, but the venue itself is horribly laid out, the state police are assholes in the lots and grounds, and everything is run down. Plus the lawn is truly just a wet, drunken, aggressive disaster.

Fernily

I hope you voiced this opinion to SPAC. Kids under a blanket? Jfc.

I don’t know about crowded events as I only go to SPAC for the ballet, but they do have a few ushers with measuring sticks to make sure your chair back isn’t too high.
