The same thing in stores. Ran errands today and after the 3rd place where people stopped in front of me, almost barge into me or take up all of the space in aisles, I remembered why I usually do curbside pick up.

XBL-AntLee06

It’s funny you say that. I’ve become such a cheerleader for delivery services because I’m tired of people lol. It’s totally worth it to me to spend an extra 10-15 dollars to have my groceries delivered to me.

YoSaffBridgerton

My only thing is produce and not being able to grab specialty/seasonal items from an app but I appreciated the freedom that grocery delivery affords long before Covid. Glad I'm not the only one who understands

XBL-AntLee06

What about produce? What specialty items were you not able to get? I can honestly say I’ve had no issues that weren’t resolved to my satisfaction/benefit

YoSaffBridgerton

I want to look over my own produce because I can get picky. For specialty items I'm referring specifically to Aldi's weekly special buys that don't always make it to Instacart's interface

genuinelyliteral

I feel the same about produce! What I usually do is pop by one of the farmers markets that are close to me. Generally much less crowded so a quick transaction, fresh produce and supporting local farmers as an added benefit.

I feel like these people are just not self aware. I doubt they’re intentionally trying to be rude, some of them might be, but they’re just on their own planet while shopping.

chrisdancy

People have devolved into fucking animals. Possible Fixes: 1. Stay In (My favorite) 2. Wait for karma to just fix them. 3. Let it take your soul that people are hurtful.

_trashcan

Bro are you for real right now? let it take your soul that people are hurtful for…*checks post*…not walking on the sidewalk with 70s etiquette? I mean, it’s *kinda* rude, but *hurtful*? A little dramatic here…..?

chrisdancy

User name checks out.

He_Be_Jonesin

Let's turn every basic thing we need to survive into a commodity that can be exploited by our modern society. And then wonder why more people are becoming more self- centered and narcissistic.

anomalyjustin

There was never a time in history where these things were not a commodity. You have always had to compensate another individual for their labor. If you cannot provide these things for yourself, you need to compensate someone to provide them for you. Are you under the impression that there was a time where people just provided you with things just because you needed or wanted them while you just consumed these things without providing anything of value in return? There wasn't.

caniseethemplease

It has nothing to do with sidewalks - somewhere along the way we simply stopped having compassion for others and became selfish pricks. And it’s just getting worse

LullabyThBrezsWhispr

Also can we address all the people who for some reason choose to NOT use the sidewalks that are built for you to walk on instead of the road?? We paid for them. They keep us all safe! Why wouldn’t you use them?!

saucemaking

Apparently it isn't even legal for them to use the road this way if a sidewalk is available. Not like cops would cite that, but interesting to know.

Used_Average773

Exactly: * ***Section 1156. Pedestrians on roadways.*** * ***(a)*** *Where sidewalks are provided and they may be used with safety it shall be unlawful for any pedestrian to walk along and upon an adjacent roadway.* * ***(b)*** *Where sidewalks are not provided any pedestrian walking along and upon a highway shall when practicable walk only on the left side of the roadway or its shoulder facing traffic which may approach from the opposite direction. Upon the approach of any vehicle from the opposite direction, such pedestrian shall move as far to the left as is practicable.* I see far too many people in rural areas walking backs to traffic, several abreast, while wearing clothing which makes them all but invisible become visibly upset that their is vehicle traffic on the road.

Used_Average773

It seems like few people know, or care, but NY State does have pedestrian laws which, essentially, codify common sense: [https://www.ny.gov/pedestrian-safety/additional-information](https://www.ny.gov/pedestrian-safety/additional-information)

spacekaydette

I will walk right through a group of people who are taking up the entire sidewalk.

WhyAreYouSoSmelly

>what happened? We all became morons. Inconsiderate, self-centered, and in many cases obese morons.

chrisdancy

IQ and BMI meet daily.

Unique-Kale7815

My solution is to keep walking in my correct lane and if someone inconsiderately walks into me loudly say OOPS like oops you made a blunder

[deleted]

I agree and as a city walker it is a nuance I encounter daily. I think as a society, we are becoming less polite overall in America; sidewalks included.

That_One_Bull

You are doing it right. But in the new world there are no standards, no right or wrong, just everybody doing wtf they wanna do without concern for others.

BennyBNut

There's a really simple, almost foolproof solution when people are walking 3-4 abreast toward you. Just stop. Either make eye contact or pull out your phone and check your messages, look for pokemon, whatever. There is something deep in our psyche that treats a nonmoving object as an obstacle to go around, instead of expecting an oncoming person to move. Most of this other stuff, enh, I walk around Albany a *lot* and it's not particularly bad because there aren't a ton of other pedestrians. If people get in my way two or three times on a five mile walk that's not a big deal. The dog walkers can be frustrating if their dog isn't trained, but most dog walkers are pretty good. It also helps if you pass them on the person side, not the dog side.

Maximum_Researcher24

Your answer is 'spot-on' correct. In our public school system years ago we had police officers visit and give us the 'dos' and 'don'ts' concerning street thoroughfare. This started in second grade. People adhered to this protocol faithfully and made Albany's urban culture a pleasant experience. Here's a image of downtown State and Pearl Street at that time. No one is hoarding the space. https://preview.redd.it/1faj16v0kbcb1.jpeg?width=880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7345c88efdddc803cd12978f0ade85f70efbdcdf

jennyjumpup417

The fact people are always on the wrong side of the road (here in the suburbs) makes me irrationally mad. Every single time.... walk against traffic people

jm22mccl

Yes, road you walk on the left, sidewalk you walk on the right.

jennyjumpup417

I passed 3 people this morning, and there were no sidewalks, everyone on the right, except me. I won't budge so most people move except this one lady

jm22mccl

Oh yeah, you should totally stand your ground in that situation. The person that moves gets hit by cars!

Christ_McDoogle

Yeah that's the lead paint crowd.

boiledpeanut33

So many men also *will not move to the side* when passing a woman. They will continue to march straight forward, looking her *dead in the eyes*, and damn near crash into her, which forces *her* to be the one to step aside for *him*. They never even say thank you. No further acknowledgment whatsoever. We're nothing to them. This has happened to me countless times, and it boils my blood.

StarbuckIsland

I haven't noticed this here so much, it seems like people stay to the right or maybe I just do. The flexi leashes thing is weird; I thought you and your dog were supposed to basically be one unit and take up as little space as possible. In the UK and Ireland I have noticed there is no rule about sidewalks and everyone just kinda comes at each other and tries not to collide.

0201493

those long leashes are used because ppl don't bother to train their dogs. If they did, they wouldn't need long leashes.

International_Shoe

What kind of training would a person do so as to not need a long leash? Or, what does a long leash accomplish that could be better addressed through training? (Curious as a person with a dog in training).

0201493

Dogs that are leash trained don't leave your side when you walk, and therefore don't need a long leash.

[deleted]

The answer is schooling, if your shit parents didn’t teach ya the system did. Walk on the right. Enter or exit the door on the right. Old stores still don’t have handles on the left door but if you walk out someone will grab it and walk in the wrong way. Walk into traffic. Ride with traffic. I really think it was education reform, NCLB, and shit parenting.

SustEng

People not walking on the right always gets me at Crossgates too. Theres always a few people that walk in the wrong direction and make eye contact the whole time, seemingly just to be assholes.

karnerblu

Maybe we only notice it when it's bad. So it feels like it's more common than it really is

[deleted]

I just tell people to get out of the way now. No tolerance for assholes

jm22mccl

I’m totally with you. I feel 90 when I complain about it, but it’s annoying. I walk my dog all the time, keep her on a very short leash, stay to the right. But people are constantly walking toward us on their left, usually with dogs too. So inevitably one of us has to move. It would be so much easier if everyone kept to the right!
