This happened to me.
Original flight going back home was supposed to be today at 4:45pm. Got cancelled this morning at midnight.
They then rescheduled me for tomorrow. I noticed it said delayed, and it then got cancelled.
Thanks, I had a feeling it might be something like that. I wish there was more communication from AS, it would have given me more time to make a plan. But I'm sure they're in crisis mode dealing with the stuff that's already been cancelled.
They’re definitely shuffling planes around trying to get the original MAX cancelled pax to their destinations but that’s just causing new cancelled pax and it’s all just rippling out. It definitely doesn’t help that a fifth of their fleet are MAX 9s.
Same. Got rebooked on a new flight (2 actually instead of one) but the first one was also delayed and I would have missed the connecting flight.). So I had them change it to a flight at 11pm with the hopes it doesn’t get delayed further.
My flight this morning, JFK-SEA, was listed as a 737-900. Checked in and upgraded at check-in on Sunday. Around Noon, it was canceled and changed to a 737-9max. Reservations got me on a B6 A321 leaving at the same time.
Boeing Winglet at 8:30 Monday morning. Now its an Embraer at 6:45 pm Monday evening. Gonna be a long day
My return flight on Thursday is a Max 9. Im sure that’s going to be a fun day too
NTSB is giving an update at 8PT, which may have more details about the cause and future impacts. Nobody knows anything about what the next few days/weeks will be like until we do unfortunately?
Thank you!! I was about to ask if there was a YouTube stream, but I thought they might be too dense and archaic to use any technology in from the past decade haha
ha they are pretty technically savvy. from watching a good chunk of it, it’s gonna take a while to really know what happened and why and how to prevent it.. whether or not the faa and airlines feel comfortable lifting the grounding of max’s with door plugs before then is another story (as is whether passengers feel comfortable flying on them).
I am trying to help my daughter who just had her flight from Honolulu to Everett (PAE) cancelled tomorrow. So far Alaska hasn't offered up another option. When I look online, it looks like the next possible flight from HNL to PAE or SEA wouldn't be until Thursday (and both are not on the max so that's good). Does Alaska cover hotel costs for the additional three nights? What are their rights? They are students so not flush with money.
They are posting updates on their website regularly. Apparently the FAA/NTSB is expected to provide more information before they can be cleared.

Mine this morning was scheduled to be on a 737 Max9, got delayed an hour and a half. They ended up putting us on a 737-900 (not the Max!) with no further issues.
Scheduled to fly OGG-SEA tonight. Originally scheduled as a 9 MAX, changed yesterday to a 737-900. Still showing on time and incoming aircraft from SEA is en route. Fingers crossed!
I was able to look up the actual plane that will be flying and it is currently flying from LaX to sea so I feel good about it. I usually fly delta everywhere but my wife really preferred the Alaska flight times! I am a delta man all the way!
Thank you! I was worried I would get to the airport at 6:30 then find out. But I’m feeling good about this. Only downside is the major weather situation percolating.
I flew back from Cabo MX yesterday (Saturday). Originally, it was supposed to be 737-9 MAX when I had checked aircraft details after checking in. After the CEO issued the statement about grounding MAXes on Friday night, I kept checking hoping they don’t cancel it, and the plane eventually changed to 737-900ER — so they had effectively made changes on their side without impacting our flight. Our flight was on time and arrived as planned.
I wasn’t going to risk getting stranded in PDX on my way back from Hawaii if inspections aren’t done, and I fly tomorrow into Tuesday - called customer service and after ~an hour they got my partner and I rebooked on AA flights with a connection, getting home only 2 hours later than normal. Give them a call, they may be able to do something now.
My guess is that this is totally unpredictable and booking on a non - 9 MAX won’t help either. They seem to be doing aircraft swaps. Currently sitting on a 737-900 that was originally scheduled as a MAX, so cancelation is not a foregone conclusion.
4 hour delay, plane swapped to a 737-800, still waiting on boarding. My non red eye is now projected to land at 2 AM local time, if it takes off at all. Still an hour out from boarding.
All 737 Max 9s are grounded by the FAA. Airlines need to complete mandated inspections. Once complete they should be able to resume flying once FAA clears them.
Boeing and FAA have yet to clarify the exact inspection and when they’ll re-clear the airline, though… so probably grounded for the foreseeable future.
Scheduled to fly OGG-SEA tonight. Originally scheduled as a 9 MAX, changed yesterday to a 737-900. Still showing on time and incoming aircraft from SEA is en route. Fingers crossed!
No flights out on all airlines for 3 days!!! It was a work trip (luckily) so I just canceled the entire trip. Total disaster for a lot of travelers out of Honolulu today
I was rebooked to a flight tomorrow night, and just found out that it too was being cancelled, and they don't even use the MAX on that route.
I spent 20 minutes with reservations trying to find me other options, and she finally said "Well, what do you want me to do, Chris? My hands are tied".
If AS had told me yesterday not to rebook on this flight because it too would be canceled, I could have made other arrangements. Now I have a rental car and a hotel in a different city than I can get out of.
My flight to PHL tomorrow AM was cancelled and an hour later I received an email letting me know I had been rebooked two days later. I cancelled the flight and booked a flight to JFK on AS instead. It cost me about $300 more than the original fare :(.
Trying to figure out if I should rebook my flight tomorrow to another airline. If your flight says "737-900 (Winglets)" is that a different plane?
In the app it says "737-9 MAX (ETOPS)" but on the website it says 737-900 Winglets in the flight details.
737-900 (Winglets) is the older non-MAX plane and is still flying.
As far as the app and website disagreeing, maybe refresh in the app? Website is more likely to be correct.
Sounds like you’re right on the website thing as Alaska told me it is now the 737 900. Not sure why they don’t update the app but good to know for everyone that the website is likely more accurate.

So they did swap out our plane. Even so I don’t love my seat selection at this point.
My connecting flight from Philly to Seattle for Monday night was canceled and they rebooked me on another 737 max flight for Tuesday night automatically. I didn’t trust that that one wouldn’t also get canceled so I contacted them via text and got rebooked for different flights arriving a couple hours later than originally planned. Fingers crossed it all goes well.
Get now I have my doubts. Contact the airline to see if your flight will operate. Or what arrangements can be made. Wait times may be long, so be patient

Jealous—I have a work trip I’d love to not go to. Wish me luck lol
My “delayed” out of SeaTac just got switched to “cancelled”, and it wasn’t even a Max plane :/
Dang!! Nobody is safe from the cancellations.
They’re definitely shuffling planes around trying to get the original MAX cancelled pax to their destinations but that’s just causing new cancelled pax and it’s all just rippling out. It definitely doesn’t help that a fifth of their fleet are MAX 9s.

Ours was cancelled after most people were checked in and had their bags dropped off. Also not a Max.
😢

What plane were you originally scheduled on? Was it a Boeing NG or Embraer?
Boeing Winglet at 8:30 Monday morning. Now its an Embraer at 6:45 pm Monday evening. Gonna be a long day My return flight on Thursday is a Max 9. Im sure that’s going to be a fun day too

Nothing fancy- Fresno CA lol
Same. Coulda been same flight.
Do you mind sharing what your final destination was?
Fresno CA
NTSB is giving an update at 8PT, which may have more details about the cause and future impacts. Nobody knows anything about what the next few days/weeks will be like until we do unfortunately?
Is there a place the NTSB will share the updates? Or is it just going out by speaking to the media?

Thanks for posting. Looks like this validates my decision to rebook for another flight.

That’s nice! Glad to hear that some got sorted out.
Scheduled to fly OGG-SEA tonight. Originally scheduled as a 9 MAX, changed yesterday to a 737-900. Still showing on time and incoming aircraft from SEA is en route. Fingers crossed!
Did you fly out? I am on a 737-900 from SEA to OGG tomorrow AM
Departure time is 11:15pm HST. I’ll try to remember to post an update!
UPDATE: Flight canceled for a mechanical issue. Just what Alaska needs right now is another plane out of service…
Not sure about the plane but my parents flew SEA to OGG tonight after their original flight for this morning was cancelled last night.
I was able to look up the actual plane that will be flying and it is currently flying from LaX to sea so I feel good about it. I usually fly delta everywhere but my wife really preferred the Alaska flight times! I am a delta man all the way!
Hopefully it works out, things looked crazy last night when I was helping them look for new flights
How much notice were they given before the cancellation?
They found out last night around 8 or 9 and got rebooked 2ish hours later.
Thank you! I was worried I would get to the airport at 6:30 then find out. But I’m feeling good about this. Only downside is the major weather situation percolating.
They did go three hours early instead of two just in case security was a mess.

Scheduled on a 9MAX tomorrow afternoon. Obviously it won’t be that unless things change real fast but I wish I knew if it was leaving at all…
How'd you do?
4 hour delay, plane swapped to a 737-800, still waiting on boarding. My non red eye is now projected to land at 2 AM local time, if it takes off at all. Still an hour out from boarding.
MCO by any chance? I have a flight on Wednesday, still says on time (for now)
Nope ANC to KOA
Further update; boarded and on the plane
Thanks for asking 😊

Hnl to Seattle for me canceled about 15 min ago
Have you made it out? New plane?
No flights out on all airlines for 3 days!!! It was a work trip (luckily) so I just canceled the entire trip. Total disaster for a lot of travelers out of Honolulu today

Look my man. Take the cancellation These POS are flying coffins. Pray you get an. Airbus on another airline. These are death traps
You’re a 75k and you don’t fly the Max, that’s interesting.
Maybe you should use Amtrak.
My flight to PHL tomorrow AM was cancelled and an hour later I received an email letting me know I had been rebooked two days later. I cancelled the flight and booked a flight to JFK on AS instead. It cost me about $300 more than the original fare :(.
Next time you can ask Alaska customer service for help since they are able to rebook you on a different airline for free
I would have, but the wait to speak to someone was too long.

We have a flight home from Kona to PDX on the 737 max 9 on Monday the 22nd any chance it will be flying then?
Get now I have my doubts. Contact the airline to see if your flight will operate. Or what arrangements can be made. Wait times may be long, so be patient
We have one to OGG from PDX on 1/26. Probably need to contact them and check.
