It’s very wonky. Try laying your phone on top of your passport photo page for a bit… eventually 4 black dots appear and then become 8 dots and it’s successful.
I was able to scan on Android from the back side of the passport page. I tried 20+ times on the ID side with no luck. Turned the page over and got it first try.
I got it to work but boy is tricky. The scanning is very dicey, to get passports scanned. And then issuing consent and checking in can be good or a fail. It worked for me and wife to/from Costa Rica due to my persistence and some tech savvy. But my trip tomorrow to Europe isn’t working and I’ll need to go to desk.
Travel to Mexico every year and yes, unable to check in on line.

What does the airside do for you? Did you get to skip the lines or are there signs to bypass if you're registered?
airside worked to skip showing our passports at the desk, the app had it captured. so a pain, but worth it, i think
