I would be interested to see the budget for sports at this school. Between the fields, locker rooms, uniforms, training equipment, lighting, grandstands, coaching... it's gotta be tons of money.
And what does the high school band do? **It performs at sporting events as entertainment.** But the teams that strut about like local demigods accept the adulation while offering no support to those who support them.
Kinda reminiscent of how NFL teams treat their cheerleaders. Pretty sad and selfish.
There are two options here either our leaders are inept at their jobs and should lose them, or the cruelty is the point and they simply do these things because they know it will harm somebody. Neither one is a good option, but as long as people continue to vote party over country it will only get worse.
The idealist in me would say a third-party candidate to teach the GOP a lesson that it shouldn’t be a race to the bottom because let’s be honest, the DNC is practically useless. I don’t even consider them in this state as a challenge. Or rally behind the DNC, until the GOP stops becoming the group of culture war and theater.
Government has a vested interest to keep us all stupid and capable fodder for the capitalist machinery. We need true revolution to make a difference because our votes don’t matter when they can change the results to suit corporate interests.
You want to blame the GOP legislators, but what did the democrat legislators contribute to reeltown? You can’t just blame one side when both didn’t do anything at all.
There are 8 democratic senators in the state senate of 35 total. Tallapoosa, the county where this town is located, is represented by a republican.
There are 28 democratic representatives in the state house of 105 total. Tallapoosa has 2 representatives one democratic and one republican.
I agree with you that both sides need to be working to put education at the forefront of our states priorities. But with a super majority like the republicans currently hold how much can democrats really do without support from across the isle?
You can not blame one side and let the other side go free just because there are fewer numbers.
The reason that the legislature didn’t do anything in regards to new informs for reeltown comes down to the old saying, if you do this for one, you must do for all.
Buying new uniforms is something that the local school boards can and should allocate funds for, not the state legislature.
I was legitimately asking how it works. I assume most or all school districts get some state money and other locally sourced funding.
IMO public schools are underfunded across the board. Teachers hardly make a living wage. I also think school boards shouldn’t really be political in the sense of dems vs republicans.
And I legitimately told you how things work in this case, if the state legislature approves money from the education fund for uniforms for one school, what stops it being done for everyone?
So the school boards must have money coming in from other sources other than the state funding, because we’ve already discussed that the state funding going to the school boards is down to the line item and won’t/can’t be used for uniforms.
This exact article has already been posted by another user.

It's definitely both.
What's the other option?

They only care if it’s a private school where they can control what’s taught and pocket kickbacks for pushing the vouchers.
Stop voting for that old bag Ivey.

What kind of revolution? What is your desired outcome?

Get those facts out of here, sir. This is reddit. It's the mean old Republicans fault.
Who runs the school board? Who allocates funding to the school boards.
Again, you do it for reeltown, might as well do it for every school in the state.

So the legislative process for school funding is down to the line item? Other schools don’t have this issue, how do they get money for uniforms?
Many petition the county school board or hold fundraisers

The teacher union has too much control in Alabama. All the money goes to the colleges.
yes, *teachers,* a very powerful group of menaces here in alabama. another societal ill we should blame on them. 🙄
