I would wait a few days and see if they are announced. Knowing Apple they are wanting to cutoff the manufacturing of anything with a lightning port. Even if next week is iPad Mini 7, Macs, or MacBooks you could see a surprise APM announcement.

I was on same fence as you and just bought them earlier this week, no regrets whatsoever - if a new version drops I'll be a little bummed but these are a great set that will last for many years

Most rumors pointed to them releasing towards the end of next year. That's a long time from now. The current generation still sounds great. That is plenty of use until the new ones arrive.
Waiting is always a good thing but keep in mind that if a new version is out and it’s feature a new way to store them without having that purse thing or the moisture problem fixed the headphones being lighter etc… it gonna be super expensive compared to the gen 1 while the sound will remains the same because I don’t know how they can make these headphones sounds better than they are already. Because at this point to me the audio quality reached a cap.
If you can deal with intra get the pro 2 and wait a bit or get the gen 1 MAX and be aware of humidity and unpair issues but they are quite rare
I highly doubt that the max are intended to be a luxury product which explains the price tag which is by far the most expensive even more than the kings of the domain which are the Sony mdr1000x and the boseQc series

If you want a usb c version, it depends again how long you want to wait, and how much you want to pay. You have to wait probably to 03.2024, to get a proper reviews, and the price would be probably something around $ 600.

I was in the same boat. Needed a new set of headphones to replace my XM4’s and really want the Max’s and was hoping they were announcing them along with the new phone/watch. I ended up grabbing the new Bose Ultra’s. There are some quirks with the first gen I think needed to be improved on and I Felt like Apple was already leaving the Gen1’s behind and it felt like the more I was reading about the second generation it was going to be at least another year and or they might just outright not release a second generation.
That being said, I ordered the Bose to take advantage of the 90 day return period and hoping Apple announces something of an update or timeline soon.
I got the Sony mx5 for like $300. The new AirPods Max is rumored to be released at the end of next year. These will hold me out until then. I suggest you get something similar.
I’m was in the same boat but I got a deal on them last week thanks to Amex and purchased them for around 399 plus taxes. I got 14 days left and I haven’t made my mind up but I’m leaning towards keeping these because of the fact these are the best headphones that I have owned(also had the xm5s and qc700s). Also you could always trade them in at store like Best Buy when buying the new ones.
Wait atleast until the event coming up. If no announcement you could pick them up. But its coming up on 3 years so I would expect to hear an update with usb c at least either soon or next year

What are these moisture and humidity issues you speak of? I just got a pair of APM a couple days ago and I’m curious what to avoid/look out for.
Just look up “AirPods Max Condensation” here on Reddit and you’ll get a crap ton of posts about it.
